Madonna received a ton of criticism for going to Africa to adopt David. It was not an easy task to say the least, and many argued she used her celeb status to bend the rules and bring the little guy home with her to London. Now Angelina, the mom who started the latest adoption trend, is attacking Madonna for the way she went about adopting David. Here's more:

'Madonna knew the situation in Malawi, where he was born,' said Miss Jolie, who has adopted two Third World youngsters of her own. 'It's a country where there is no real legal framework for adoption. Personally, I prefer to stay on the right side of the law. I would never take a child away from a place where adoption is illegal.'
Miss Jolie, 31, also made clear she was shocked by Madonna's decision to take David from the country where his father still lives. Despite her own harsh words, Miss Jolie said she still felt sorry for Madonna, 48, who has been harshly criticised since taking David back to London to live with her husband Guy Ritchie and her own children, Lourdes and Rocco.
Asked if the saga would put her off adopting more children of her own, Miss Jolie said: 'I have been horrified by the attacks she's been subjected to. All that should count is the happiness of her little David.'
Wow. We didn't see that coming. Madonna has defended herself in the past with this adoption so we are curious to know if she will react to Jolie's comments.

I don't think Madonna did anything wrong. The boy was in an orphanage anyone could've adopted him. And he will definetly have a better chance at life with Madonna. Angelina should be the last person critizising this. How does she plan to give enough attention to 3 kids with a movie career and still adopt a fourth and possibly more! Children need emotional attention from their mother.
1this seems like old news. just let it be.
2i definatly think she will react to these comments..granted, i dont knopw the whole story but i dont htink she did anything wrong
3i agree with you too, bluejeanie...old news
4I dont really think this is new gossip, this came out a few weeks ago about Angie saying that about Madonna's adoption. Wasnt it in her Vanity Fair interview or somewhere else? Since its been out and Madonna has probally heard about it I wonder what her reaction was? I think as long as adoption is in the news - it may help others getting adopted here in America and across the world.
5Wow. Angelina and I actually agree. I'll be darned.
6i read this complete quote on perezhilton.com
"Personally, I prefer to stay on the right side of the law. I would never take a child away from a place where adoption is illegal. Madonna knew the situation in Malawi, where he was born. It's a country where there is no real legal framework for adoption. I have been horrified by the attacks she's been subjected to. All that should count is the happiness of her little David."
7bluejeanie I was thinking the same thing
you beat me too it LOL
8That is not what she said, or should say, HOW she said it and I can't believe how many blogs are putting it out there as this is verbatim. Just read her words in VOGUE and you'll get the real story.
9This is old and BlueJeanie's quote is correct. It's from her Vogue interview I believe. It definitely is old because I already read and threw out that issue meaning I got it probably 3 or 4 weeks ago.
10i love david's big brown eyes though. what a cutie.
11Agreed, old news and publicity stunt.
12Umm, Pop I think your stretching for a gossipy story. I have read Angelina's quote and don't see it as an "attack" and she actually says shes been horrified by the attacks Madonnas been subjected to.
13shut up anagelina
14omg i was just watching the CT news and they were talking about this!! a little stange that a local news channel is cover this, no?
15Oooooooh snap!

Yeah!!!
malzie89 thats weird did you just hear about it on the news today? I live in connecticut and the station I have on was talking about it as well.
17Why pick Malawi? Why pick a kid who has a living parent? I think Angie has valid points. Did you notice that David has the same shape face as Madonna and her other children? Maybe she felt a strong connection to him. I just can't believe her reps/lawyers didn't advise her better. She kind of ask for trouble.
18I don't think that Angelina was trying to attack Madonna. Basically, she is saying that some third world countries don't have adoption laws and that she wouldn't adopt a child illegally. Everyone is really blowing what she said out of proportion.
19Okay,I think the gossip bloggers, the best ones included, have been running old stories a lot lately..I know I've heard this before. I can't think of specific examples right now, but I KNOW I've had some headline deja vu, where I stop and think, "Wait, either the exact same far fetched thing happend again...or the bloggers don't even recognize the same old crap when they see it"..hmmm. just sayin...it woudl be pretty funny if they check their one archives for this.
201. old, old story being rehashed
212. this is an attack? I don't see it
3. Aj's right. While I appriciate M's devotion to lil David, she should have done her homework. I can understand that M just fell inlove w/ the little boy, she should have know that there would be major problems...
i dont know the first thing about adoption but i just wish people would leave her alone to get with her life-like angelia should leave peoples husbands alone
22THIS IS BS.. I just read an interview where she said that she supported any attempts to adopt a child (when asked about Madoona and in reference to Madonna) but that she was not aware of the rules in that country since that country was not on a list of approved countries that had clear adoption rules and procedures. She also said that she knew the feeling to meet a child in an orphange and to immead feel a connection and how powerful the urge to save them is and that it was admirable of her to fight for that child.
And she would never say that about David's father because Z's grandmother was still alive..but Z was ill and going to die if left in the orphange..
Aj's comments were twisted and taken out of context or these are outright lies! Leave it ot the press to try to continue to vilify her.
23Why not pick David? David may of had a living parent but that living parent wasn't taking care of him. He didn't even live with his father. Madonna offered to give his father money so he could take his son home and take care of him. The father turned that down because he knew his child would have a better chance with Madonna.
24I didnt take it to be an attack either, not after reading the entire article. This is an old story, however the "attack" I guess is new...I agree that Madonna bypassed alot of laws and got David because she is famous which isn't fair, but in my opinion the bottom line is the happiness and health of this little boy. If he is in a better home with Madonna than what he could be given in his home country, then I'm okay with it.
25This article is nonsense. French Gala is a gossipmagazine, nothing more, and I don't think for a second that they had an exclusive interview with Angelina Jolie. Insteady, they used old quotes and then even managed to misquote her.
Of course, the rest of the media - and sadly also blogs, sorry - doesn't want to think about that possibility, because it's more interesting for them to suggest there's a feud between both women, instead of writing that French Gala is once again telling lies.
26So St. Angelina would *never* think of taking a child from a place where adoption is illegal? Just like she would *never* have an affair with a married man? Oh my bad, that has already happened at least once!
27please...she's so not attacking madonna and i'm sure these quotes have been taken out of context...the media never realys the excat message...
"stay far from timid, only make moves when your hearts in it and live the phrase sky's the limit."
28READ THIS! Here is the actual interview and her response (totally blown out of proportion for the sake of sensationalism)
Question: After the controversy of Madonna adopting a child, the cynical reaction from media was that some celebrities are “buying” babies. Did that hurt the chances of some babies being adopted?
Answer:
I hope not. I hope people are smart enough to understand that it was a very specific situation of a country that didn’t have foreign adoption (policy). So it’s a very specific legal situation. I hope everybody wishes the best for that little boy and his new life. Again, it’s the negative and positive media. It’s good for media to question whether there’s something at play that you need to understand or may not be right. Then there are people who decide to run stories in the most negative way possible just to sell magazines.
I was working in India and I didn’t go out of my way to study everything about it (Madonna’s adoption of a boy issue). I don’t know a lot about that country (Malawi). I have not been there. I have gotten lists of counties to adopt from and that country has never been on those lists. I believe that anybody who adopts a child has that commitment to that child for the rest of his life. There’s got to be some love in that situation. I don’t think it’s fair to just look at it in a negative way. We have to hope that’s the best for that little boy.
No attack on Madonna people..the media just trying to cause troupble to increase viewship, sell magaizine, ect.
29MAG the HAG probably released this. Anything she can do for publicity. I agree with AJ if she said that. Whatever you say about AJ.. Madge just made anyone adopting outside the US look they are buying a child. True or not MAG always has have PUBLICITY around ANYTHING she does..
30Hey IMB!!! Happy new year girl!!!Thanks for the REAL comments.
31I'm confused, if adoption is illegal, how was Madonna able to adopt David.
I don't think I believe that Angelina made these comments, I hope not.
Damn that David is cute, can you blame her?

This is from an interview with People magazine
33Yeah Padraigin I just saw this. Maybe AJ did another interview?
34Happy New Year ohsuri..
I am calling bullsh*t on this story..even if it is a new interview with People. They twisted her wordds or misconstrewed what she said..definately.
35From People's website:
Angelina Jolie knows something about adopting children from other countries – so she can sympathize with Madonna, whose efforts to adopt 1-year-old David Banda from Malawi have sparked controversy.
"I have been horrified by the attacks she's been subjected to," Jolie tells the French magazine Gala. "All that should count is the happiness of her little David."
"Madonna knew the situation in Malawi, where (David) was born," Jolie says. "It's a country where there is no real legal framework for adoption. Personally, I prefer to stay on the right side of the law. I would never take a child away from a place where adoption is illegal."
Yet Jolie emphasized in a statement on Monday that she "said many positive things that were omitted" from the Gala story. "I feel we must focus on the present and I encourage everyone to be supportive so that every child can adjust nicely to their new home."
All freaking smoke and little itty bitty fire..not the firestorm of controversy as it is being made out to be.
36AJ did not 'attack' Madonna's adoption. Pop, I come to your site to not read a skewed version what MAY have been said. A headline like that is what I expect on Perez and D-Listed. You are better than that.
Happy New Year!
37malzie and tify, i too am from CT. What channel? I don't watch local news though. Only Anderson Cooper.
38I think POP is just reporting SassyGirl. I think you will find POP to be the best gossip site out here. Plus even though we all agree her words have been twisted.. if it was not AJ was COMPLETLY right on!!!
39Its not Pop's fault Sassy.
I just checked the internet and there about 17 similar negative stories from reputable news organizations reporting similar headlines "AJ blasts madonna..aj vs Madonna.. ect.
Only one story contained the headline that wcontained the positive first or the whole story.
This is a great example of what Aj said in that one interview...out of about twenty positives statements regarding Madonna adoption she said one thing that left wiggle room and the genreal press jumped all over it and blew it up into a sensational headline... ridiculous.
But not Pop's fault in any way!
40shes just jeoulus shes not the only celeb adopting from another country anymore
and wats with the points thing guys?
41Madonna is just trying to do good. I saw her on Regis and Kelly and she really brought awareness to the country's issues. I think Jolie needs to mind her own business. She wasn't there, she doesn't know the situation. (As you can tell, I'm not an Angelina fan.)

42tifygodess24 i was watching channel 7 i think..sonya bagdaddy was talking about it...lol ifound it strange that it made local news
43Thanks to all to helped to clarify. Trust me, by no means was I slamming Pop. Just saying I expected to read those types of skewed headlines on other sites. I read Pop to get a softer and seemingly more realistic view on this celebrity shiz.
I love Pop and have from the start!!! And I really enjoy reading the comments...seemingly intelligent, smart women (and men?) discussing these sometimes crazy celebs.
XOs to all!! Sassy
44"I'm confused, if adoption is illegal, how was Madonna able to adopt David.

Hey Jinx,
As I understand things, Malawi doesn't have a foreign adoption law, so basically this is forcing the government to create one to deal with the issue.
In other words, the Malawi judiciary is making things up as they go along. That's why these human rights groups were able to get in as co-presenters in the trial.
I don't see this as an attack against Madonna personally, but I do think she's saying there is a right way and a wrong way to go about adopting a child from a foreign country.
45Angie was just answering the question put to her. she didn't release a statement on the issue. & if she had refused to answer the queation she would have gotten more grief. no where in any of the quotes does she say that Madge should not have adopted David...
46I agree Cat!
47I doubt that Angelina is jealous of Madonna on any level. Angelina is younger, prettier, more successful personally and professionally, all of which seem like things that would matter to Madonna more than to Angelina.
48Just because there is no law governing the issue, does not make the issue illegal, it just means that in this instance, the courts will have to answer the question before them.
I don't think that adoptions in Malawai are illegal, but I don't think they've ever had an issue before them quite like this one, and I think the country has tended to discourage foreign adoptions in the past whether intenionally or not, by putting in place the mandatory check-ins by the courts' representatives.
Either way it's a sticky situation, I too am suprised Madonna was not better advised, and feel like her people were not as blind sided by the allegations of wrong doing as they come across. Lawyers should know whether they are going to run into problems, even with Celebrities.
49* intentionally, sorry people!
