As an overwhelming majority of you seemed to think is the right call, this afternoon the judge named Britney Spears' father, Jamie, as her legal guardian. This means he has control over her assets and legal matters. Jamie shares the responsibility with lawyer Andrew Wallet, so as to have an unbiased independent party involved. This ruling is only temporary and will be reevaluated at a hearing on Monday.
The other upshot from today's hearing is a restraining order against "someone" to stay away from Britney. While it's not explicitly stated, the person in question is Sam Lutfi. The order lasts 22 days after which Britney's parents (assuming they're still in charge) can make it indefinite. Considering he was calling her family "crazy" just this morning, methinks he'll have an angry thing or two to say about all this.

Im glad her parents are acting on this whole thing.
1Guess Sam better go find himself a new job and place to live. Although I bet he will pull out some papers claiming he has a contract with Britney to try and get more money. I doubt he will go away quietly.
2Oh wow, this is the best thing that could have happened! I hope Britney stories continue to look up!
3I hope this is a positive change in the whole Brit Brit Situation!
4Ginger, this is good news BUT Sam probably won't have to get a job with all the stories he can sell about her and don't think he won't. Why has he been blabbing and badmouthing her parents ALL over the place - US Weekly, Ryan Seacrest, E! News, etc.? Why is he SO preoccupied with spreading their business?
5THANK GOD! You know what Britney needs? She needs real people around her, people that aren't going to use her for fame and money but people who have her best interests at heart: Her mom, dad, brother, sister, REAL cousin Laura Lynne, Felicia Culotta, Johnny Wright, and Larry ... people that were with her before she was Britney Spears, famous pop-star. THOSE are the people that Britney needs around her. Not Adnan (or any other paparazzi) not Alli, and certainly not Sam.
6who's sam anyway? Like what is his significance in her life?
7finally some good britney news.
8now if they can just get adnan out of the picture, maybe she can finally start to get better.
THANK GOD! This is the best thing for her. I only wish it had happened sooner. Maybe she'll make a comeback, maybe she won't, but at least she's getting help. Carry on Brit, carry on. You still have lots of people on your side.
9has hollywood always been like this? with addictions, rehab stays, mental health hospitalizations, etc, and the public just never knew?
hope this is the start of a new chapter in brit's life. such high highs and low lows for her. she must be exhausted.
10Shenany, that's just it, no one really knows where he came from. One day he was just "there" and that's what's scary about him. It's like he was stalking her waiting to pounce. I had all but given up on Britney, no, I HAD given up on her. I'm still pulling for her, and I AM on her side, but man, these last couple of years, she made it really hard to feel bad for her. Now I just empathize with her and pray that she is FINALLY getting the help she needs.
11She needs God, she cant change without God, she will NEVER be happy without God.
12Things will get better and better with her parents in control.
13Mykie7 - I had read that he got in through Alli somehow. Alli's website was registered under his name. He has also been outed as "Jeff." This was the name X-17 used for him when he gave them an "exclusive" interview earlier last year saying she had never, ever used drugs and that she was an good mother who spent 23.9 hours a day with them. Something like that.
14It would be very very nice and not skeezy at all if those magazines would do the "Responsible" thing and turn Sam away. I know it's a pipe dream, but I think it would be such a help to someone who is obviously unstable and think of her poor boys that will eventually read all this stuff about their mom at a very rough time in her life.
15Thank goodness! Hopefully this will help Brit make a complete turn around with her life.
16I'm glad that someone independent is going to participate in decisions, not just her dad alone, not just some random attorney alone. Sounds like a plan--a good one. Hard to imagine that much of a fortune could be stolen, but with her condition, I'm sure someone could take advantage. It's just sad that it was allowed to go this far.
17Woop! I've missed you today!
18yes hollywood has always had rehabs and mental wards and stuff. This is nothing new. It's just extreme because all of it is happening to Brtiney right now.
19Licketysplit - I think that it has always been like this, it's just that in the past "Reporters" had what was known as a Code of Ethics. And not so much now a days, they used to all have this code that made it so that they had too much honor to print stories that couldn't be substantiated, now they just don't care. It all started to go down hill back when STAR Magazine and a few of those other SLEEZEBALL Mag's were started.
20Hi Christina!
Seriously, this guy is talking everyone who will listen which is sad
because they are listening and will listen especially when he has dirt to sell.
21Apparently, the new conservators (mother and attorney) do not have to honor any prior contracts. This includes the Mercedes just purchased. So at least Sam can't pull out any shady piece of paper to get control of anything. The downside is, the order is for 22 days, but she can have it made permanent.
22That's good news, very good news but only time will tell. Britney herself has to want help not her parents and she's been sick for at least a year so I really doubt we can expect her out next month all sane and clean. I feel bad for saying this because most of you are so optimistic and pulling for her and that's great but I expect more chapters in that tragic story that is the life of Britney Spears.
I'm not an expert on this but I think Amy Winehouse will have better chances for a good life IF she'll finish her therapy, while her enemy sits in the liquor bar and shady corners Britney's sits in her head.
23I mean I know WHY they are listening to him, because it's sensationalisim at it's finest, but people (meaning the people listening)need to have a code of ethics! It's not that hard, just say you know what I don't need to know the personal and private details of a girl that is obviously having some real issues. Think of her as if it was your Sister, Aunt, Mother, Grandmother, give her some respect and back off!
24Hopefully this will make her realize that there is hope and she doesn't have to rely on the paparazzi for comfort.
25It would be nice if magazines recognize that he's now an outsider with nothing new or exclusive to offer, and just shut Sam up. Awesome news about the contracts. I just hope it sticks and we're not all cheering for nothing, like if she gets herself checked out of the hospital and invites Sam over, or something like that.
26Phew I feel better after having said that, but I am a realist, I know it won't work. But a girl can hold out hope that someone somewhere will take a stand and prove that no one needs to know what she's going thru. And I'm done with this rant, thank you everyone, I'll be here all week....
27ABOUT TIME!
28Well, time will tell if this helps.
29YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAH!!!!
Oh...im going out tonight and drinking a toast to that judge!!
Thank you Lord....i hope now that Britney can get her sanity back. That Sam guy was saying some evil sh*t....i have a feeling he will continue for quite sometime though. Atleast he has to stay away now!!!! Oh, im so happy i could shave my head!! ok..maybe not...lol...
30I was watching CNN earlier where they were talking about Sam and how in the past he also took another vulnerable person who was having alot of problems "under his wing"....when this guy (Danny) finally said "im done with you" Sam outted everything about this guy including sending naked pictures of this man all over the internet....what a scum bucket!!!! (I just wonder also how he came about those naked pictures to spread....)
31
Yay!! Ugh, Ive been waiting for someone to boot Sam out!! Dad to the rescue!... Well
Britney's whole family to the rescue but since he's conservator I'm going to say it anyway, Dad to the rescue!!
32Oops, the new conservators are her father and Andrew Wallet, not her mother. Wallet now has Britney's wallet. (teeny tiny haha) They can change her locks, hire 24 hour security, etc.
33Its the father and his lawyer that has conservatorship...not the mother. btw.
34Julienne - For me, I would say that it's more cheering against Sam than cheering for Britney. If that makes sense. I don't think her problems are gone just because sam is out of the picture and she's supposedly gonna be put on stronger meds.
35meowtomekitty I agree with you. I just read this info a little ago, hopefully it all goes well.Im surprised I care about this story( in the way that I hope things get better for her) when I was never a britney fan, but it says so much about how famous she really is, no one is untouched by this story.
36Remember when Britney was holding this magazine saying "I took this picture" and Sam put it aside? If she took the picture of Jayden it's an easy conclusion who had the best access to her camera... I wouldn't be surprised at all if Sam himself took and/or sold all those "private" pictures from her backyard. Remember? Her in a bikini, with the kids in the sandbox, etc. And they we're only available on X17. You do the math.
37Woop I agree...her problems existed long before Same did, but he only made them worse. Getting Sam away is only a baby step in a huge giant leap...hopefully this order will be extended and she can really get the help she needs. I am not a Britney fan at all, but that doesn't mean I don't want to see her happy and healthy.
38Yeah...this is going to take some time...i do wonder how her tests went today? I guess we will find out on Monday when they decide whether or not to continue the conservatorship. I hope she gets a good long stay in the psych ward...she's going to need a ton of therapy to get her back into a "normal" state of mind.
I do really hope for the best. Who cares about a comeback...just maybe a comeback to reality will be enough for now.
39Novaraen...you are sooo right....at this point who cares about a comeback...its far deeper than that.
40Woop, I thought she refused to take the meds until now and they can't force her yet. And she would have to take the meds for years if not the rest of her life, they better shoot her a depot because otherwise she'll maybe think "now I'm fine" and the story repeats itself. Like I said those are all assumptions from other posters and my conclusions of them.
41I'm glad Sam is out of the picture.I hope they take her back to Louisiana once she gets out of the hospital. She needs to be far away from Hollywood so she can get better.
42I think the first step is to get her to REALLY see that she has a problem, because you are right Juliene...whos to say she will actually take the medicines...until the drs and her family make her REALLY see the problems, she wont make any progress.
43Britney's problems have been long coming..... Let's all pause to remember her no carseat/wrong way carseat no hat/ almost baby dropping/ crazy Matt Lauer interview........ She's got a lot of problems.... I hope this is a step in the right direction, not one step forward, two steps tomorrow
44I'm glad to hear that it's her Dad & not her Mom along with the lawyer. I know her Dad has had his share of problems, but he seems to take the well being of Britney & Jamie-Lynn more seriously than their Mom does. The whole thing with the Jamie-Lynn story being sold by her Mom was just disgusting.
45Julienne - I've heard both from different sources that she refuses to take meds or that her meds aren't strong enough because her bi-polar is so severe (which i'm still not sold on but that's a different post).
Anyway, whichever may be the case, I agree with sarah100682 and others who've said she has to admit she's got problems and needs to want to get better. The reason I still can't "get behind" or "support" britney is because I have never heard her take responsibility for or acknowledged her part in any of the bad choices in her life.
46OK, I officially now don't care anymore until her diagnosis...I just want to know what her problem is...then I will not care again.
47I don't need to hear about her trips to the quick e mart...pantless nights out. is she bipolar? mpd? just an attention wh*re? let me know & that's all I want. I deserve it after being BOMBARDED with her life for the past 2 years with out asking for any of it. Ugh.
She is so gross. I"m glad she has gone away....the quiet is so nice....no more britney posts outta me!
i really do hope that they are able to make this ruling stick. i don't like sam and i don't like what he's done for britney. maybe what she really needs is her family to take her back home - and for her to get out of the spotlight for a while. i think that if she 'disappears' for a bit - gets healthy and comes back in a couple years - it'll be the best thing for her
48HALLELUIAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't think I've heard of a case where I'm more thrilled that the courts have stepped in!!!! I'm so glad it's her Dad and not her Mom because her actions haven't helped the situation a lot and it seems that Britney doesn't trust her. I don't think a lot has been reported on her relationship with her Dad, I know he's had his own troubles. I liked the fact that when the story got sold to OK about Jamie-Lynn, it was reported that her Dad was livid. It will help to have one person that doesn't feel the need to keep the media in the loop. It fills me with such glee to think that X17 will have nothing to do, now that Britney is in the hospital.
Now we're getting somewhere. She has problems galore that I don't think will ever change unless her attitude changes. At some point she's going to have to take responsibility for her actions. She has been so used to the media and everyone else bowing to her every move that I believe she needs to get treatment for her addiction to the media along with everything else.
And dare I say it, but this is where the term "baby steps" is appropriate. (I can't believe I just used those words)
49i've never been a fan of britney but it's just sad that her life has come to this -- i'm glad this decision was made and her dad has the control...i don't doubt that her mom wants to help but she's just made one too many sketchy decisions regarding brit to have me trust her as the guardian.
also i have no doubt that sam will probably go and sell as much of britney's shizz as he can. but seriously, what do we NOT know already? her life has been so open and splashed through the media that i can't imagine us learning anything that would be particularly surprising. so the guy can do whatever and just be outed for the scumbag he is.
i hope this can be a turning point for britney and she starts to see how much she needs to pull her life together, not just for her sons and family, but if only to stay alive and well.
