We were surprised to hear that Angelina had criticized Madonna's adoption of little David in Malawi in the French magazine Gala. Evidently Angelina was as well. The original article was about how horrified she was to see Madonna facing such backlash and that the important thing was David's happiness. Today Jolie made a statement in response to the bad press she's received over the whole ordeal. She says:

"The article included many falsehoods. I said many positive things that were omitted. I feel we must focus on the present and I encourage everyone to be supportive so that every child can adjust nicely to their new home."
She's got a point. What really matters is the kids and their well-being. We're sure that Angelina and Madonna can both agree on that! For more pics of Madonna at the gym yet again just read more

I preferred the edited verison as it was more closer to the truth....the journalist was only writing what a lot of people thought.
1So she DID say those things. She's just upset that all the 'nice things' weren't quoted. I really think people are making a big deal about this. Also, Angelina shouldn't have even said anything concerning Madonna's decision to adopt David. Just because she's adopted a gazillion kids, doesn't give her the right to criticize what other people decide to do. She should have just kept her big mouth shut...all this would have been avoided.
2No.. she said like 10 positive things and one vague statement that was misinterrupted and run with.. and OBVIOUSLY there are a lot of ignorant, biased people who instead of reading the whole article like to jump to conclusion based off a headline or sound bites and have nothing better to do then continue to vilify Jolie.. no big surprise anymore..
people have their heads so far up their asses I am surprised they aren't dropping dead from lack of oxygen a couple million at a time.
3Ima.....some people have a hate-dislike for her such that it wouldn't matter if she held a press-conference about what she didnt say. It's pathetic that people rather believe the worse, and also rather post the worse for people to believe without finding out the real deal first. This is a sad commentary on how quick we're ready to buy and sell a rush to judgement.
4Amen Ima and Edwina. I said on the post saying that Angie bashed Madonna that, that was not the whole article. I highly doubt that she just blurted that out during the interview. She was asked and responded. She did not say anything negative towards Madonna, just that it would be easier if she had gone to another country to adopt. And that is true is it not?
5Its scary actually... it was the shot heard around the world even though it was a false shot that came out of someones ass! Sold as truth and now watch 5 years from now some ignorant bastard will say "remember when Aj attacked Madonna about adoption?" Ridiculous.
6I just don't think she should have said anything, and I don't even like Madonna. My favorite is when the Hollyweirdos cry out about illegal immigration walls being built and how "unfair" and bad people are for wanting it...while at the very same time, they put walls all around them to keep everyone else out. LOL, oh, the irony.
7This is just another example of shoddy reporting and it happens to all celebrities. So called journalists like to use words like "Attack" and "Slam" in their headlines. In the last year I've seen headlines screaming:
Nicole Kidman Slams Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie Attacks Madonna
Madonna Attacks Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Convince Madonna not to adopt US Orphan
All these have been lies and have been cleared up by Nicole, Angelina or Madonna but these headlines still make it to cnn.com and msnbc.com
That's the real shame. Seeing this stuff on blogs is one thing but seeing it on so called legitimate news is just sad and at least for me makes me question every piece of "news" reported.
8I think Ang was just trying to explain why Madonna's adoption was made into an ordeal and hers were not.
I really never felt that it sounded negative, even before, it is blown up by the media, of course, and I would rathher hear Ang talk then see another Paris Hilton waste my oxygen post.
9She probably shouldn't publicly comment on anybody. Her life has been fairly psycho and in reality is only allowed to adopt children because she's a wealthy celebrity. Think about it ... she's been married twice, had a lesbian affair (not that there's anything wrong with that), wore a t-shirt covered in blood to one of her weddings, wore a locket of the 2nd husband's blood around her neck, hasn't spoken to her own father in years, is covered with tattoos, has a history of cutting and substance abuse ... the list goes on and on. If she wasn't a wealthy celebrity and was just an average Jane Doe she wouldn't be allowed to adopt children! Madonna is, at the very least, married. Who knows how long this Pitt thing will last. He already looks bored. As much as I love AJ and find her a compelling personality, I don't think she should be throwing even the smallest of stones.
10A lot of comments made by celebritties get taken out of context or edited down to sound bad. It must be hard for them in interviews to try not to say any sentence that could be taken the wrong way.
11Just wondering where all the Angie haters are now that it got cleared up.
12Pink,
I think it's nearly impossible for a celebrity's words not to be taken out of context if one is determined to sensationalize a story. Most people don't have the time or desire to question what they read. They take everything at face value especially the negative. Too bad but that's the way it is.
cine,
The haters are too busy hating to care about the truth.
13I know funkyfeet. What I meant was that it would be hard to not make any comments that could be taken the wrong way when being interviewed.
14I never cared much for Angelina Jolie either way, but I think her humanitarian efforts are commendable, that being said so many people devote their lives to humanitarian work that it's hard to put someone like her up on a pedestal for it, but she is a good role model either way for that aspect of her life.
My only comment to the whole situation was that the adoption was likely not illegal. And that I am not suprised at all of the drama around the circumstances given the lack of law surrounding the situation.
15cine_lover.........I was wondering the same exact thing. The other thread blew up when the shoe was on the other foot.
Playsindirt........I love it how in giving us yet another laundry list of Angelina's "past" you make sure to add the pc toss in of "not that theres anything wrong with it" regarding her bi-sexual affair. Ok, why even bring it up as something negative just to turn around and let everyone know you're ok with it? I got whiplash on that one. Also, you are aware of Madonna's past life too right? Are you saying that because she's married, it mitigates any and everything she's ever done?
Miami gal & playsindirt..........how about they stop asking her the question and maybe she'd stop giving them an answer. Oh but wait, as soon as she did that, then low and behold if she didn't catch it for NOT speaking. Oh but wait again, THEN if she didn't speak, what do you know, someone would decide to say it for her!
16As wrong as the story maybe , and like I said in the last post, at least this may bring some needed attention to adoption. Hopefully more people may want to adopt or be a foster family to some of the needy children in this country and across the world. To many children in this world are suffering and its just sad.
17Like I said in the last aj/ madge post... AJ was just answering the questions she was ASKED. & if you want to adopt from another country, you need to learn & follow the laws of that country. I'm all for Madge adopting a child, but you gotta play by the rules. simple as that.
18people are going to hate Angie not matter what. she could single handedly save an endanged species of cute lil bunnies & people would b*tch and moan about it...
19Gosh, I guess having gotten married (second time) must have magically erased Madonna's years of pushing the envelope in religion, sexuality, sexual preferences, mixed with posing sans clothing. Given that her adopted son comes from a strongly Christian community, there are a number of concerns about her fitness as an adoptive mother, including the Kaballah cult and the crucifixion part of her most recent concert tour. How old do you think David will be before someone shows him Madonna's Sex book?
Angelina is the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and a Good Will Ambassador for the UN.
20More celebs should defend themselves when false things are written about them or their words are taken completely out of context. A soundbyte does not reflect the truth and it's better for them (the celebs) to say something rather than stick their head in the sand.
This excludes tabloids that print garbage of course.
21ginger-none of those things prove her incapability as a mother. religion and sexual preference have no baring on whether or not she is fit. she doesnt hold naked sacrifices in her home, she does not have a record or a history of drug abuse. her kids are happy and healthy, she should be able to adopt like anyone else.
22i know he thinks you're fine and stuff but does he know how to wind you up?
What is the whole story/contoversy w/madonna's baby? Could anyone share/send a link? I was away at the time and not following-
23i don't even know what the big deal was. i had no idea that it was "illegal" until i read the angelina quote.
personally, i feel like people in america should adopt children from america since we have so many problems of our own in the first place! let's fix where we live first. though i'm all for adoption!
24Flutterpie, I was responding to playsindirt who seems to think Angie's earlier lifestyle somehow makes her unfit but doesn't seem to have any issue with Madonna as a mother.
But in adoption, religion does make a big difference to a lot of people and in some places you cannot adopt a child if you are not the same religion. I would expect that is or has been mentioned by the collective of human rights groups involved in the process. I've seen in mentioned in articles about this case, because it's very frowned upon to rip a child out of their own culture and change their religion too. To a lot of Christians, a woman who openly practices a Jewish mysticism and mocks Christianity would not be deemed a fit mother to raise a Christian child. Remember it's not an American court system, but in Africa where she has to convince the courts, so they have different standards of measure.
25I agree with what Angelina said about Madonna perhaps being ill informed to adopt from Malawi. I think it was a good statement, an honest statement, and in no way was an attack on Madonna, more of a caution to others to be careful and do one's homework when adopting from another country. And MY comments about Madonna's adoption are not meant as a slam or a show of hate, because even though I can't stand Madonna, I think she's a very good mother and will create a wonderful home for David. I just think she was short sighted when it came to adopting David from Malawi. She was warned off Malawi by several sources but went ahead anyway, therefore, she should be prepared for any backlash.
26enough already with this story!!
27*Hands Madonna a hairbrush*
28Edwina, hon you need to calm down. I repeat, she shouldn't have said anything. I could care less what she does to be honest...I think she's a pretty good actress, and maybe a little weird from what I have heard over the years. I find Madonna utterly disgusting to be honest and will not waste one minute of my life watching her or listening to her...even for free. Back to Angie...Great, she adopted a kid overseas. A poor orphan. I don't hold her high in humanitarian light for that and jump to her defense and consider her a saint for that. Do you have any idea how many people give up their life for service for poor kids here in the good ole US of A? The best thing she, or anyone who gets asked questions provacative like this should be silence. She should come here and read how freaked out people get. I will love the day the next time a celeb gets asked about something like world affairs, child welfare, etc for them to say, gee, maybe you should go ask someone whose career and education centered around that.
