America Ferrera was a Special Guest of Honor at a CosmoGirl Luncheon this week. She may be a little hard to recognize without her glasses and braces, but the star of the hit show Ugly Betty doesn't seem to mind. She's still able to leave the house unnoticed because her character looks so different than she does in real life. That might not last long since they've been nominated for two Golden Globes! Still, she isn't letting it all go to her head. Here's more:

"We've worked so hard, and now we can celebrate it together," Ferrera said. "It is a wonderful cast and crew and show to be on. Everyone is so excited."
Though some people were appalled by the show's title when it first came out, Ferrera's confident that viewers now get the message that "ugly" isn't meant to insult.
"I think we knew the title would be a little jarring. But once you see it, then you know," she said. "You get it. You know there's irony in the title and it's a commentary on the definition of what ugly and beautiful is."
The show makes it easy to empathize with Ferrera's character.
"It is very clear from the start that Betty is the hero," Ferrera said. "She's the one you're supposed to love and who is probably the most beautiful on the inside of everyone in the show."
It's so nice to have a show that can gently poke fun at beautiful people and have a heart at the same time. No wonder it's your new favorite show of the season! For more pics of America just read more

I just think she's adorable, I've loved her since she was in 'Real Women Have Curves.'
1I love the example she is setting for young women everywhere! Shes a pretty girl and inteligent girl who is proving that you do not need to be a size 2 to make it showbiz!
2I have always liked her.. I esp enjoyed Real Women Have Curves.. she was so good in that.. You go america!
3Not my favorite actress. I do LOVE however how she displays a positive image showing that you don't have to be a skinny b*tch to be famous. Or I guess just showing younger girls that it does 't matter your size. GREAT role model.
4She's lovely.
5She looks lovely, fabsugar did a post on this too and she looked super hot in that post as well.
6wow!...she's a dead ringer for my house keeper!
7I love her. She is such a positive example that you dont have to be super skinny to make it. My problem with her is I think she is being type-cast. Her three major roles- Real Women Have Curves, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and Ugly Betty- all focus on her weight. I would like to see her play a role where her weight isnt the main theme
8The outcry doesn't surprise me. Political correctness is at an all-time high. No one stops to read between the lines anymore.
9She's cool.
10I love Ugly Betty. It's one of my favorite shows! sux that they only show it once a week, though.
11jess, i totally agree! i'm so sick and tired of "fat actresses" only being in roles which focus on their weight. i think the absolute best example for young women and girls would be to have a bigger actress in a role which didn't treat her weight like a disorder that you have to talk about!
12I love this show. America does look faboir!
13I LOVED her in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants! My daughter uses her line about fitting, ALL THIS, into jeans!
14I went to rock and roll heaven, and I wasn't on the guest list.
