Hilary kicked off the new year by getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It's quite an accomplishment for the girl who slept in a car with her mom when she first came to Hollywood. She says that's partly the reason she was attracted to her new film Freedom Writers. In this true story, she plays a teacher named Erin Gruwell who helps inner city kids realize a potential others had given up on. Hilary was so inspired by the film that she also signed on as Executive Producer. Here's more:

"This is one of those stories that you read and you just get so inspired and it's something that you feel has to be brought to the screen," Swank said of Gruwell's story. "Erin is such a force of nature, she's done so many things for these kids, she's given them a fighting chance."
Gruwell's selflessness reminded Swank of her own mother's faith in her dream. When Swank expressed an interest in acting, her mom moved her and their family from Washington state to Los Angeles with little more than $100 and a car.
The actress attributes her success to her mom's dedication.
"That's what this movie is to me — the power of one person who believes in you and that can change your life," Swank said.
Hilary obviously hasn't forgotten about the one person who believed in her. Her mom Judy was right by her side as she was honored with her star. For more pics just read more

Two Oscars? I should THINK she'd get her own star!
But I wonder if the committee saw Black Dahlia...what a stinker!
1that was quick.. like three money making movies and an Oscar insta star on the walk!
I am on the fence about her.. no interest at all in her new movie. Great for the real life teacher but not worth $9 a ticket and $9 an hour for a babysitter. Its like all the other inspirational teacher movies. I'll just re-rent the one with Michelle Pfiffer or Edward olmos
2wow that was fast! there are folks who wait years for a star. I don't really have an interest in this movie...& i'm kinda on the fence about her in general. But congrats anyway
3I think it's about time...she has grown on me.
4congrats to her but i'm with Ima - I'll stick with Dangerous Minds
5I always think she's so much older than she actually is. But I actually went to a conference a couple of years ago where the Freedom Writers teacher (Erin Gruwell) was the keynote speaker. She really *is* inspirational. I think everyone there bought her book that day. I still haven't read it though! Ha ha!
6they'll give a star to anyone huh...
7not a fan
she seems like a really down to earth person and i mean she won 2 oscar's i think she deserves one...its not excatly like they are oh-so-picky about who gets star's these days anyway...the days of "real superstars" and "hollywood glamour" are long gone and have been relplaced by trashy mediawh*res and flash in the pan "entertainers", gotta love living in an instant gratification society...
"stay far from timid, only make moves when your hearts in it and live the phrase sky's the limit."
8I completely agree when I first saw the commercials for her new movie I automatically thought dangerous minds...I am not to interested in that movie...
however I think that she definitly deserves a star. I know alot of people think she got it too fast, but in my opinion if you deserve it, you deserve it.
9horse face!
10doesn't it just take money to get a star? I thought they basically bought one...
11Star are no star, and as much as I think there's something very calculating about her, the work she did in BOYS DON'T CRY has got to be one of the best awesome performances I've ever witnessed by any actor. She earned that Oscar.
12I honestly can't stand her, I mean, I'm sure she's a nice person & all, but I find her SO unattractive & I'm always feeling like I want to laugh at her, why? I just don't know *shruggs*
13wow, that's awesome, congrats to her!
14the girl rocks.... it's about time.
15ooh congratulations to Hilary!!!!!!!! she is such an awesome actress*
16This is long overdue.
17I like her. She seems like such a down to earth person. Good for her.
18the whole walk of stars thing isn't a meritocracy, you just basically buy one. people like clint eastwood and harrison ford don't have them simply because they choose not to. i can't blame people like hilary for getting them, but pretty much anyone can get one.
19FREE THE WEST MEMPHIS THREE
I love Hilary!
20I think its good for her, but there are still peopole out there who i think deserve one more than her.
21I think the star costs $10K. I think she comes off unattractive in a lot of photos, but in moving pictures she is pretty, almost reminding me of Jennifer Garner.
I haven't really seen her films. I read a story similar to Boys Don't Cry and can't put myself through that type of scene, and didn't see her Million Dollar Baby film. My guy's daughter saw this film (15-16 year old girls) and they really really liked it. They said it was one of the best films they have seen in the past month (and they see EVERYTHING). I'll wait for video since I can watch on the couch with my sweetie.
22ahh bless her for taking her mom...she deserves it unlike the big booty egomanic Beyonce.
23she's a good actress but god does she have horse face something awful...
24her face doesn't bother me... i think she is an awesome actress who deserves whatever comes her way.
25They BUY the stars...All it takes is a good publicist and some cash.
Nothing against HS, she has certainly done well for herself since Karate Kid X, but tallent isn't why actors get the stars...
26Ryan Seacrest got his star last year. THAT I couldn't believe. I wonder what constitutes getting a star? Either way, congrats to Hilary.
27she was great in boys don't cry but since then i havent seen her in anything- im not really into boxing movies! she always dresses cute
28Good for Hilary!
29Love her...It's about time she got her star too. She looks great here.
