The Grammy Awards are this Sunday, and Amy Winehouse has been doing her best to get to the states in time. She was slated to perform a few months ago and has been nominated for six awards, but since then she's been in rehab and has been having trouble with her visa and she has been officially denied. Do you think Amy should be allowed to go to the Grammys?

seriously...look at a before picture of her and now, she just needs help and not be worried with the grammys
1actually, why not. having attended the grammy's...everyone else is high. but she shouldn't be allowed to enter our country.
2She looks much better in this picture than in ones just a few weeks ago, and while her nominations are well deserved, her health should be number one right now. An acceptance speech can be prerecorded, or a satallite feed set up. But she should stay right where she is to deal with her demons.
3I think that the visa issue is very troublesome, here I have a sister who is settled in Pakistan with family & kids, & she cannot visit my elderly parents in USA becasue the embassy thinks she is going to stay in America. She has spent over $40,000 in visa fees (for herself, her husband, & her kids) and she has been denied 3 times already. My parents cannot travel...so there I want to know what is fair.
sorry sugar I am a bit upset
4You can't have a career if you're dead or too drugged.
The Grammy's will wait.
5I just read on Perez Hilton a statement released by her publicist that her application was rejected and that she will continue to remain in rehab.
6yeah she got rejected! She's not allowed to come to our country.
7hellz no... we have enough druggies on this side of the pond
8Hell NO! It has only been a couple of weeks since she was videotaped smoking crack. Why can't anyone just say "NO" to these people! She has got about a year before she should even consider doing anything else but working on her sobriety.
9She's so incredibly talented and it's a shame if she can't perform this year, but if she doesn't get cleaned up and turn her life around she won't be alive next year to get another shot at performing at the Grammy's.
I hope she sticks with rehab and gets better.
10No, she needs to work on getting well!
11I am sure she can make the choice herself.
12She has not committed a terrorist act or any crime which cause harm to others then herself. I think she should be allowed to enter the country. I mean hell we've got millions of illegal aliens living here. Why not?
As for the drugs...Really i don't care if the woman does weed or coke. I don't care about her personal issues. She hasn't hurt anyone so let her be. her choice not mine.
13Most rehabs let people out on passes for special occasions. It's not like this is some crazy thing because she's famous.
14Regardless I wish her luck in her recovery.
Yea why not? Im sure she wont be the only one there with a drug problem.
15i really wanted to see her perform, you know, just for the schadenfreudeliciousness of her probable failure. i loves a trainwreck!
16Antonia, while I can understand your stance on perscription drugs due to our recent conversation, can you honestly sit there and state that it's not that big a deal for someone to take illegal drugs, often cut with things you don't want to know about?
I would think given your stance on one thing, you'd have a similar stance on the other.
17It's too soon for her...who rehabs that fast? and sticks with it.
18"can you honestly sit there and state that it's not that big a deal for someone to take illegal drugs, often cut with things you don't want to know about?"
I'm for drug legalization. I never said things like prozac should be illegal. What i argued was that britney should not be forced to take them against her will. that state has no right forcing their hand in people's lives. Amy and Britney hurt themselves with their actions. They don't hurt anyone else. They should not be treated like criminals. I don't think anyone should do drugs but i don't have to right to force my beliefs on others.
I'm a libertarian-there's your answer.
19And wow thank goodness she lost the blonde hair!
20Honestly, i think it is crazy that they were even considering this...let's send a crackhead to hollywood, where she will be around about 5000 other famous crackheads...This celebrity rehab thing is out of control!!!!
21I don't think coming here to preform will have much of an effect on her recovery. If she wants to get clean, she will and if not, then she won't. A trip to the Grammy's won't change that.
There will be plenty of other musicians in attendance and people in the industry who are battling illegal-drug addictions as well, they're just not as well-publicized.
22Heh...Antonia, your views make for good discussion, I'd ignore them otherwise.
At any rate, the last time I checked, "Themselves" or "Yourself" equals "Someone". Therefore, they ARE hurting someone. Themselves. And family members at the very least should try something...anything to help them see that and do what they need to do to stop hurting themselves...and the people around them by extention. Because emotional hurt often leaves scars that can never heal. It's just as bad as, if not worse than physical harm.
As for legalization, I personally am for the legalization of pot, but drugs like crack, coke, heroin, meth, these should NOT be legal as they cause a great deal of harm to the users and the families and loved ones of the users.
I'm iffy about the extent of the state's role in these situations however. (read that as I've yet to make up my own mind in that arena)
23No way! Although its a shame, she's so talented.
24Not letting her appear at the Grammys isn't going to magically make her committed to her recovery.
I think it's too bad she couldn't get her visa sorted, she could have gone off the the Cirque Lodge with the rest of the poplets.
25I am really pulling for this girl to get better and back to business! I am obsessed with her albums-
26I guess I'm "old fashioned"...I'm tired of our culture glorifying celebrities with drug, alcohol, criminal, backgrounds. But, alas, following the laws and helping others doesn't make for good headlines.
27Kristin - schadenfreudeliciousness!! I love it!!
I've seen a couple of her performances on youtube when she is messed up. I don't think we are going to be missing anything if she's not at the Grammys. And yes, I think if she were able to come, she would definitely be messed up. With the drug addictions she is battling, the urge to use doesn't just go away in a few weeks. Perhaps being denied will be the motivation she needs to really get clean for future trips in the coming years.
28Since she's been officially denied...what's the poll for
29No, because it is illegal to issue a visa to someone that is a drug user.
30Ummm....I guess we can think of it as "Should she have been denied?"
Maybe?
31"And family members at the very least should try something...anything to help them see that and do what they need to do to stop hurting themselves...and the people around them by extention."
I'm not saying family members shouldn't try to help their loved ones. However locking up otherwise harmless people is a waste of time and also causes them harm. Drugs users are not criminals in my mind and should not be treated in that way. As i said they only harm themselves. There is no law against self-loathing and self-inflicted harm last time i checked.
"Heh...Antonia, your views make for good discussion, I'd ignore them otherwise."
Then start ignoring me rather then making these discussions about me. Thank you.
32She DOES deserve to go to the Grammy's, but really needs to get better first and foremost.
33Ummm...Antonia? Since you decided to turn snarky on me at the end of that rather than accept the compliment for what it was, that you have interesting views, I like to discuss interesting views and that you are eloquent in explaining your views, I shall then grant your request and ignore anything and everything that you have to say from this moment forth.
I appreciate a good discussion even if I have a different view point from the other person. I don't appreciate getting slapped in the face for no reason at all.
34I think it's funny. Kate Moss was videotaped doing drugs and she immediately came to the United States for rehab. Now Amy Winehouse has been videotaped doing drugs and she's not allowed to come to the United States. At least she's in rehab. I wish her well. She's got such a great voice. Maybe she can still perform in the Grammy's via satellite or something.
35Isn't she a British citizen? She should be able to come as a tourist, which means she would not be able to perform (work). As far as I know, British citizens don't need visas just to vist the U.S.
36Then accept my apology. I was unaware it was meant in a good way.
37I definitely think its a better idea for her to stick with her treatment. Its just sad that someone so talented, who is having a great year musically speaking...wont be able to attend the awards ceremony. Then again...she should have thought about that before getting involved with those awful-a$$ trainwreck drugs.
Drugs are bad...M-kay!
38I don't think that that is fair. She worked hard to be at the Grammys and she deserves it. She was going to have a chaperon with her; what happened to that plan? She might never get the chance to perform at the Grammys again. If this trip does anything, it will help Amy with her recovery by letting her know how much people do care about her.
39Apology accepted. And just cause it's a gossip site doesn't mean that everything said is an insult.
40I think it's strange men who have committed far more serious crimes then Amy Winehouse are allowed in this country but she is not.
41No, getting clean is far more important. She has a serious problem, and that's what needs to be worked on.
If she wins awards, good for her. She deserves them. She can feel thankful from afar, while getting better.
It wouldn't be a good environment for her, especially with all of the after parties.
42I do find it odd that she is being denied. But if I'm not mistaken, wasn't she in the states for a concert last year, and she was all of a disaster on stage?
43I think she should go to the Grammy's with an escort or something. I mean, this is just too huge for her career. She has to be there.
44I just hope she's getting the help she obviously needs.
45I hope this is the slap in the face that proves to her how damaging her problems are, not only to her health (which she obviously doesn't care much about) but to her career.
46It's in the news that she was denied a visa so the discussion is over. I like her but she has too many problems. If you look at her photos from last year she has lost a lot of weight. She looks like a skeleton.
47Now the news is that she will be performing via satellite and will accept an award if she wins by satellite. Which could be up to 4:00 am in London.
48I would say a big NO. To me it seems her problems with drugs and alcohol are more than serious...but yet again I'm not a doctor, if they said it is ok, than maybe it's not that bad for her...
49No, she should not be allowed an exception. Her celebrity status should not be due cause to override policies duly set forth controlling immigration standards. She, in effect, is viewed a criminal by the US Government. Now regardless of what she did, the law is as it is. I'm not exactly seeing why the hot mess that is Amy Winehouse should be exempt from these laws for entertainment purposes.
As a side note, WHAT A CRACKHEAD! She's so messed up that she's now got an addiction to her addictions. After hearing the slew of information that has come across the Pond about her, I am thinking her talent is nothing even slightly exciting. Her success was just a fluke.
