Two of Hollywood's most respected starlets, Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman, got all vamped up for the March issue of W magazine. Natalie looks as gorgeous as ever in the spread, while sexy Scarlett's makeup is making her look way too intense. We can expect to see a lot more of these two beautiful actresses as they make their way around the world promoting The Other Boleyn Girl, starting with the Berlinale Film Festival this weekend. Scarlett and Natalie play sisters in the movie, and their close friendship comes through in the article where they talk about their relationship, their views on politics, and how they've been portrayed in the media.   • Scarlett on choosing do to the film: "Natalie was already attached when I read the script. And I was desperate to work with her. She was the most attractive aspect of the project to me from the beginning."
  • On how their different personalities make for a good friendship:
    Scarlett: "Natalie would be uncomfortable in her costume and not say anything. She’d tell me, ‘My rib is killing me.’ I’d be like, ‘Natalie, why don’t you say something?’ I’d have to be like, ‘Hellooo, someone, Natalie’s rib is hurting! Can you fix her zipper?’”
    Natalie: "I know, my avoidance is a bit much. As an actor, you have to respect your position and know that you are fulfilling someone else’s vision,” she says. “Mike Nichols always quotes Mamet’s line: ‘Film is a collaborative business: bend over.’”

  • On how they are perceived by the media:
    Natalie: "I get branded a lot as a good girl. I’m, like, the prude, and you’re more sexy, more like…”
    Scarlett: "A harlot!"

    Scarlett: “I’ve been battered for saying that I don’t believe humans are monogamous by nature. The response was, like, ‘What a ho-bag!’ I didn’t mean that I don’t practice monogamy in my own life — of course I do! I’m not going to be in some tarty relationship. But I stick by what I said. I remember another time, I said I get tested for AIDS twice a year, and again that got spun as me being promiscuous. But I was single at the time, and I think it’s important to do that!”
    Natalie: “That’s totally responsible. A great role-model thing to talk about.”

    Natalie: “The only thing that’s a little bit annoying, is I feel that I come off kind of boring sometimes.”
    Scarlett: "I don’t think you’re boring."
    Natalie: “Thank you. I appreciate that.”

Normally when two powerhouse starlets their age work together we hear stories of catfights and competitiveness, but it seems like Natalie and Scarlett bonded and developed a great friendship despite their differences in personality. They sound like a couple of close girlfriends just having a good time, and we can't wait to see how that translates to the big screen in their period piece.
