Ellen Page got to work it as a flirty tomboy for the March issue of Interview magazine. She's definitely been having quite the year since her breakout role in Juno. In addition to being a cover girl, Miss Page will also get to walk the red carpet at the Oscars this Sunday after earning a nomination for best actress. In the magazine, Drew Barrymore (her future director) did the honors of interviewing Ellen, quizzing her on everything from her success to her love life to her favorite color. Here are highlights:
- DB: "What's your idea of a perfect day?"
EP: "Lord. I don't know. Maybe wake up, have some delicious coffee, eat some delicious fruit, then go for a bike ride to a lake and bring a good book. And read and swim and read and swim — just something super simple, I guess. Mellow." - Drew Barrymore: "And what about the next five years? What are your aspirations?"
Ellen Page: "I hesitate about having aspirations that are too intense, because I just don't know what's going to happen. As corny as it sounds, I guess the answer would be remaining as honest as possible and having the control to play roles that are fulfilling and challenging to me and that I feel passionate about. And I hope, in the next five years, that's going to be something I'll be able to do consistently." - DB: "What's most surreal about your life?"
EP: "Well, I did Oprah yesterday, and then I went to the NBR [National Board of Review] Awards last night and met Kate Winslet, whom I adore. I was all star-struck and trying to be supercool, but she came over to me!
To see what else Ellen had to say about her award nominations, favorite color, and flirting style, just read more.
- DB: "You're going through a period where you're getting a lot of accolades for Juno. What do awards mean to you?"
- EP: "Well, I'm definitely not an actor in order to receive an award. But at the same time, it's what I love to do. So when you receive that acknowledgment, it's like, 'Wow, maybe I'll be in a couple more movies.' And that's a really exciting thought."
- DB: "And what could they [a person with whom you'd been flirting with] say that would make you raise an eyebrow and go, 'Hmm, I'm interested in this person'?"
- EP: "Probably just something ridiculously random, just talking and being honest with each other. As corny as it sounds, just being yourself. I'm horrible at flirting, though, so I shouldn't be answering this question."
- DB: Ok, my last question: What's your favorite color in the Crayola box?"
- EP: Green. I suppose I like earthy colors. They just feel simpler."
Ellen seems like one of Hollywood's more down to earth starlets who we can't seem to take our eyes off of. She's refreshing and we look forward to seeing what's next for this humble actress.

Drew asks kinda dumb questions, no offense Drew. I love her though!
1i envy her..LOL. shes cool but simple at the same time..nice combo
2love her! i loved juno soooo much!
3I agree with you, Lauren, Drew's questions are kind of silly. But the interview is cute! (And there are a few other good articles/interviews in this issues, as well.)
4seems like a sweet girl! cute cover pic, age appropriate
5is it just me or does ellen page look way younger than 20?? i always think she's about fifteen
6is it age appropriate to be showing her panties? is it classy for anyone, no matter how old they are?
7she looks very cute. but enough with the super red lip thing.
8and the headline "why she's not like the rest." yeah, she's exactly like the rest. sex sells, even when you wear man clothes and show your briefs. different, but still the same.
9not that she isn't a pretty girl, good actress. don't get me wrong. it's just nothing we haven't seen before.
oh gosh, I didn't realize she was showing her panties, Kris! I was just relieved she was wearing as many clothes as she was!
10I liked that Drew asked a Crayola question! Ellen seems really cool. Swimming and reading all day long sounds like a perfect day to me too!
11CUTE! I LOVE her
12I am definitely in the minority, but I can't stand her. The way she talks in interviews always sounds so fake and scripted, and I hated her in "Juno," as well as Jennifer Garner. The only part of the movie I enjoyed was Michael Cera and Jason Bateman. I can't believe it's nominated for ANYTHING, especially up against movies like "There Will Be Blood" that have actual talent. UGH. Not saying it was a terrible movie, but not anything spectacular...sorry.
13Greentea i cant stand her either, she was good in hard candy, but not that great, and Juno wasnt that good either IMO.
14The only way we'll know if she's not like the rest is if she doesnt have any DUI's, or flash her goodies in the next few years.
15Greentea - Your not alone in your sentiments towards Ellen. Her interviews are so canned and if I hear her say the work "SUREAL" one more time, I'm gonna hurl!!!
But, I kinda blame the media for that. They are trying so hard to cram her down our throats to be the next it girl. It's sickening and I'm already sick of Ellen!
16I actually think shes a breath of fresh air with her untanned skin and tomboy style.
17i loved her in juno - but she definitely does look more like the high school age she played vs. 20.
18Ellen seems like such a nice girl
19Well, she's different from all the starlets and I LOVED her in Juno and Hard Candy. It's probably kind a weird but i like her voice.
20you can tell she's not accustomed to the spotlight. love her.
21I think she is very talented, and she seems like a nice girl. I have more resepct for actresses that are serious about their craft and not just people who want to be socialites.
Her "perfect day" sounds lovely!
22Gorgeous cover.
23Wow showing her panties-- big deal?? Two inches of panty shown on her otherwise fully clothed body and that's a big deal? This cover just doesn't strike me as trying to be sexy at all... She is wearing pants after all...
24she reminds me a bit of thora birch from American Beauty - both kind of dark looking and in these 'overly mature' roles that hve some type of comedy to them. i hope that her career grows a bit more than thora's since we haven't really seen her around all that much.
25cute cover♥
26I'm developing a HUGE crush on her!
27Love Ellen Page and I like her quirks. So what she says surreal! Is that any worse than saying "like" a billion times per interview, or being known for spouting of "that's hot" every three seconds. She's a normal person. And I swear the underwear thing is so over the top. She's not showing any skin and she doesn't have a belt on. At least she's not popping out of her clothes and at least we know she's wearing underwear. If we're going to pick on the girls who are doing it right do we really have any room to complain about the one's teaching our young girls to be sluts before they're out of elemetary school?
28I love that she still lives in Halifax (way cool city) and still does the mellow thing (camping, swimming etc). I also loved Juno becuase I taught a girl that was very similar to this character (think Swiss but not pregnant) so I could totally relate!
I totally agree with bransugar79 on the underwear and interview thing!
She's fresh- I like that:-)
29i loved her red lips she a talented actress and a cute amazing person.George clooney is always talking about her during his Oscars interviews i think he fell in loooove with her .but anyway she is too young George
30kudos to greentea and sparkliegirl. ellen is a talented actress but nothing exceptional. she seems kind of aloof and the movie juno is way overrated. i did like her in hard candy but all she did in juno was act as a stuck up, selfish teen who had an ego problem. i wish people would just get over her and that movie.
31she really is so cute and down to earth. i love her :]
32Juno sucked. Very overrated trying to be "hip".
33you guys do realize that the whole point of the underwear isn't for her to expose herself but for the entire "WHY SHE'S NOT LIKE THE REST" idea, in contrast to the black and white suit. that, and, artistically speaking, it pop's her lipstick.
34Can this girl be any more adorable, cute!
35Drew is a terrible interview.
36I love Ellen, however. She's so awkward! I love her for that. At least she could admit that the answers to the questions were cheesy. Loved Juno too!
*Interviewer.
37My bad.
She's very pretty.
38she seem like such a nice girl, i hope that she won't get ruined by "Hollywood"
39love Drew but her questions are kinda dull.not a fan of Ellan, can't get her appeal.
40she's the type of girl who's so pretty but is so clueless about it. i loved her in juno! you wouldnt even think that she was acting!
41LOL. Weird interview.
42I love ellen page! So cute!
43Ellen reminds me of the type of people i grew up with in Atlantic Canada, (mind you she isn't that much younger than me!)
44If she continues to live in Halifax she will remain the same!
Yeah, to me, her answers seem very scripted & rehearsed-esque. She definitely is a breath of fresh air. Although, she seems like the kind of actress that'll have very redundant roles.
