George Clooney is touted as "The Last Movie Star" on the cover of this week's Time magazine, complete with a photospread showing off his silly and handsome sides. In the article, George comes over to the writer's house for dinner and comes off as a man who knows how to be an enthusiastic guest. Between talking about his life philosophies and showing off impressions, he spent part of the night trying to disarm a mysterious alarm going off in the house — watch the video, it's hilarious. This weekend we'll see him all dressed to the nines once again walking the red carpet as an Oscar nominee, but it's always nice to have a reminder that he's just as awesome as he seems. Here are a few highlights from the interview:
- "From the moment I was born, I was watched by other people. I was taught to use the right fork. I was groomed for that in a weird way," Clooney says. "You give enough. You play completely. You don't say, I don't talk about my personal life. People say they won't talk about their personal life. And then they do. And even when the tabloids say really crappy things and it pisses you off and you know it's not true, you have to at least publicly have a sense of humor about it."
- "Before they could kill me on Batman & Robin, I said, 'It's a bad film, and I'm the worst thing in it.' You try to defend an indefensible position, you'll look like a schmuck. The guys I dig don't do that. Look at Winston Churchill. He said, 'These are our shortcomings. Now let's get past it,'" Clooney says. He thinks that's all Cruise needs to do. "I talked to him the other day, and he's a good egg. There's nothing self-serving about what he's saying. He has to turn it into a way to make fun of himself."
I love the mental image of Clooney calling up Tom Cruise just to give him some solid advice — the sense of humor is a big part of what makes George so attractive. He may be the last of a throwback sort of Movie Star, but really he seems to be in a league all of his own.

a good egg? no more like rotten.
1I think George is great. I've been a fan since the other ER with Eliot Gould. He sticks up for people and speaks out. Plus, he has a great sense of humor. Michael Clayton is my favorite for the Oscars and I've seen all of the movies that are nominated. No Country For Old Men will probably win but it had too much violence.
2The LAST movie star? I remember when this fool was on The Facts of Life!
3God he's adorable, and so charismatic!
4He is soooo dreamy!
5I remember when he was on Facts of Life AND Roseanne, but look at him now!
6It's so nice to hear all of your comments about my lovely husband. I like him too.
7omg that video was hilarious!!!
8He is a great guy and a terrific actor. "Rotten" is not a term that could ever be associated with George. I've noticed people on other blogs suddenly angry (or disappointed) with him because he's dating a 28-year old former Vegas cocktail waitress who's posed for a bunch of pictures w/other women and without any underwear on. (Her photos are at mavrixphoto.com.) I feel it's his life and he has the right to be with whomever he wants. I'd just advise her to wear underwear to the Oscar's as she'll be sitting in the front row w/George.
9Bella you're funny!
10That video is seriously hilarious. Clooney can come over to my apartment anytime to turn off my smoke detector! What a great guy.
11I have nothing really worthwhile to add to this post, just wanted to drool over these pictures...
12Bella- Would you ask your dear husband to come over and turn off the alarms in my bedroom
13I promise I won't keep him too long....
misha135 if u would have read correctly..i was talking about cruise not george.
14i just don't like George
15Yep. In a league of his own.
16Ahh, a good sense of humor is sexy, sexy.
17What a nice guy! Love him!
18tom cruise and george clooney have been friends since george filmed a movie in the mid or late 90s with nicole kidman. i think it was peace maker. they would go to tennis games together, like winbledon. and george is friend with katie holmes, last year at the armani fashion show like the day before the oscars she ran up to hug him.
19I agree with Xena. I just don't care for him either.
20Love him to pieces...he's just so handsome, charming and doesn't take himself too seriously.
21I adore him. He's funny, smart, charasmatic (what other star would rifle around a reporter's house and go into his crawl space?), a great humanitarian and a great actor. It doesn't hurt that he's handsome as well! More Hollywood men should take clues from Clooney.
22i agree with the headline that he's the last movie star. big fan.
23Looks like ol' George is in dire need of good publicity, after his movie still hasn't passed the $ 50 million mark, despite being in release for 20 weeks.
Seems actor Clooney's attempt was successful, thanks to the help of his publicist and that rent-a-journo at TIME, which is a sister company to Warner Bros, which has a deal with George's Smokehouse production company...
I'm wondering though why the current companion didn't play a more prominent role after she's been paraded in front of every camera they could find. Maybe because the actor failed at acting in love and the former (?) escort could not stop posing for the paps instead of trying to come across as one half of a real couple.
24oh really, i beg to differ
25the video was hilarious. GC is so funny he has a special sense of humor, didn't know that he and Tom r friends am suprised .anyway George is amazing actor i liked him since FACTS OF LIFE doesn't care of his early face but the matter to me that his humor is what makes him so sexy in any age....and yea he is the last movie star he can come to my house specially to the BEDROOM anytime he wants to come~!!!lol
26Yummmmmm. He is delicious.
27Good article and photo shoot.
@misha135
28Normally when she's not in the photo I refrain from talking about them as a couple. I agree he can date whoever he wants.
It is not that she's 29 year old cocktail a tacky waitress/escort/model/skank photo taker it is ever since they started dating, well he's been displaying tacky behavior, too. SHE can be tacky all she wants, we expect more from him. Publicly kissing at a restaurant with others at the table, giving middle aged women the finger and calling them cows, taking her with her scandalous background to an event with heads of states, upstaging his friend, this Valentine's Day pda (did we really need to know he spent a regular person yearly salary on a hotel room and dinner, hell she probably umm worked in that room), the VD photo had him looking especially drunk and haggard. I thought the Vegas thing was a horrible rumor, George Clooney hardly ever flaunts his wealth so publicly. Really was that supposed to prove that he loves her dropping over 40K in Vegas, the most unromantic city on earth. Did she not care enough to dismiss the camera man, because she knows a photo of him looking tore up would be embarassing, NOPE! She let him take the photo and he looked a mess. She's so busy trying to bank on his fame, it is nauseating. That is probably why folks hate on her so much, also they are trying to hard prove that they are in a healthy and happy relationship, that they come off fake.I wonder who they are to prove it to, the public or themselves.
He just gets sexier with age.
29He never did much for me, but I watched Michael Clayton last night and I loved the movie. I also think Clooney is growing on me.
30And yes, Tom Cruise takes himself and his life too seriously.
31Cruise is the nicest of all and aging hotly. Cruise is the favorite among fans, paparazzis, reporters and even the chefs of Food Network.
Cruise jokes around too but Clooney has no baby like Tom does so for me its war too when some tabloids make fun of my child.
I never find Clooney talented except on ER and I disagree with his politics. I just agree with him about ending all tabloids insanity.Too bad that will never happen.
32Meh. He sounds kind of smug.
33LOL, I wonder how many writers fought over this assignment!
34That Last Movie Star? Seriously???
I'll take Harrison Ford over him any day.
35George is like a bottle of fine wine!! I love him!!!
36so cute!
