Those of you who were tweens in the late 90s may be sad to hear that MTV's TRL (or Total Request Live, if you remember the days before acronyms were the only way kids knew how to speak) is quite possibly headed for the chopping block. Perhaps it's because the video countdown show (that probably averages showing two full videos a week) is, at this point, little more than a few bright colors and cheesy games between endless commercial breaks (uh, not that we watch it every chance we get or anything).

We're pretty sure that cute Damien Fahey will find himself a new gig (or just focus on his band?) and Vanessa Minnillo's got her Lachey meal ticket, but what will become of LaLa?
Really though, it's all been downhill since Carson Daly left (which is most certainly a sentence that we never thought we'd say anything about ever).

I never watched TRL after Carson left.
1I've never seen TRL, period. I'm an old lady.
2Isnt Lala preggers- how is she going to feed her baby now?
I kind of felt like this was coming because I have seen a few recent episodes and it was super lame
3Gosh i havent watched that show since high school..never the less.. thats kindda sad!
4I love the title of this!!!!

5Ahhhh.....it is a sad day for teens, I reckon.
THANK GOD!!!! Now they just need to cancel the MTV station altogether, and all my dreams will have come true. Except for that one for world peace...
6Doesn't LaLa host the Flavor of Love Reunion shows? That means I'm not the only one hoping that Flava Flav is putting together a season 3.
7i remember when trl was nothing more than carson daly next to a tiny little television screen. awww! i stopped watching after they started to cut the music videos short. that was EARLY. let's say 98 or 99.
8This reminds me of something I heard once - "Remember when MTV used to play videos?" Maybe now they will go back to the roots.
9That's right GirlC!!! But I don't think MTV will ever play videos they just HAVE to go against the flow! I can't stand MTV just for that reason PLEASE be MUSIC Television not Lame Shows television!.
10I wish MTV went back to actually playing videos. It would be nice exposure for new artists.
11Yeah ShoeS - I'm just tired of all the shows and even more tired of the reality shows.
12Well LaLa is engaged to Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets so she doesn't need to worry either.
But seriously, this kind of makes my heart break a little. Sure I stopped watching long ago but it was conforting to know it was still there.
13wow i havent watched TRL since prob when Carson was there...they don't play the whole video? wtf. ugh get rid of it...good riddance!
14havent seen it since carson left!!
15It got so awful and ridiculous after Carson left-- the screaming drives me insane...
16cancled??????? no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
17can't say that i'm sad to see this show go. i'm suprised it lasted for as long as it has.
18Lala will be fine, Carmelo Anthony is her babydaddy.
19ladylove is right. they've been engaged for two years and are supposed to get married after the baby is born. needless to say, lala will be *more* than just fine.
20Damian's getting a little long in the tooth for TRL if you ask me. He's starting to border on looking like a child predator.
21I also haven't watched since Carson left. I can't believe they're getting rid of one of the only shows that actually features a little bit of, uh, music television...
22Yes.....dreams DO come true =)
23i liked mtv2 when it started for the reason that all it did was play music videos, and now it's gone over to the dark side.
i do like my super sweet 16, though. i just laugh my butt off!
24I haven't watched TRL in a really long time. How lame that they don't play the whole videos! Isn't that what the show is about?
25It's probably been since the late 90's since I've even watched MTV. Hilarious about Damien Fahey's "band". I listened to the first song until someone started singing and then I had to get the hell out of there. I like the guy sporting the white man 'fro though.

Oh Hayden!
No!!! i just became a regular on the show, i only go on to be closer to my future husband Damien. I'm sure when they write about our relationship in US weekly they will say she stalked him on TRL before they got hitched. but it's gotten bad, i haven't actually watched it since i thought Britney was a virgin.
27Eh. Never watched it, so I won't be missing it.
28LaLa is pregnant and engaged to some NBA player. Short on the black gossip, eh?
TRL was awesome with Carson in spite of the failure to play music. I'm actually upset that MTV and VH1 play no music anymore. It's always some stupid reality or game show. Did I mention that Carson is the most gorgeous man ever in spite of manorexia?
“I can’t stand those articles where people spill their life story. After a while I feel like I know more about them than their best friend does — and that’s weird. It’s better when you don’t know everything.” -Scarlett Johannson
29I can't agree with you about Carson, ethiopian_princess. He looks kind of scary at the moment.
30I never understood this show. Good riddance.
31I haven't watched the whole channel since they quit playing videos. It's pointless.
32if trl is canceled how will britney make her BIG comeback without the big spectacle showy video...
she needs trl to project her image, without it shes good as gone..
remember the days when a musician/singer made it big just by hearing their song on the radio, without even knowing what they looked like you went out and bought that album.
those were the days
VIDEO KILLED THE RADIO STAR !!!
now im showing my age..runs and hides <~~
33you can catch videos on youtube..
ONE DAY I WILL TELL MY NIECE AND NEPHEWS HOW BACK IN THE DAY IT WAS ABOUT THE MUSIC-the original first mtv vj's
nina blackwood, martha quin, alan hunter, mark goodman and
j.j. jackson
~on a sad note~a moment of silence please for J.J. bows head
John "J.J." Jackson, who in the 1980s helped usher in the music video era as one of the first MTV on-air personalities died of an apparent heart attack Wednesday. He was 62.
Jackson, a longtime radio station disc jockey, died while driving home from dinner in Los Angeles, friends and colleagues said.
"I talked to him like two days ago. J.J. was in a great place," said Mark Goodman, a longtime friend who also worked with Jackson as a "VJ" when MTV launched in 1981. "It's incredible, so incredibly sad it happened like this."
In a statement, MTV said Jackson's love of music and good humor helped set the tone for the cable music network in its formative years. "He was a big part of the channel's success and we are sure he is in the music section of heaven, with lots of his friends and heroes," the network said.
34"He will be greatly missed."
I used tow atch TRL way back when it started, it was pretty fun but then it turned to sh1t, I grew up and stopped watching the shizz.
I hated carson so much!!! what an @ss!
35I miss MTV. It used to be good times.
**~~Everyone who's anyone has been on sesame street.~~**
36I miss the old MTV too. I was already in my early twenties when TRL started ( I think?) so I was never into it. But who REALLY watches videos anymore, anyway? Music videos are like so late 80's to me.
37Lala has a 'meal ticket,' if anyone was worried about it. She is engaged to NBA player Carmelo Anthony.
38I AGREE! CANCEL THE WHOLE MTV NETWORK! NOT INTERESTED IN CORPORATE MUSIC, I HAVE MYSPACE/CDBABY/AND ITUNES NOW! THANK GOD!
39i remember trl when it first started and it was a british guy and couple people running around a loft. they actually played the videos then too.ick now im showing my age.
40Carmelo's no dummy. He's not gettin' married to that.
41Man this used to be THE SHOW when I was younger. Backstreet Boys, Britney--the OLD Brit. Aww this kinda saddens me.
