Patrick Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer over a month ago, his rep confirmed to PageSix.com. The incredibly tragic news was first reported by the National Enquirer this morning, but we hoped that it wasn't true. Our thoughts are with Patrick and all his loved ones during this sad time.
UPDATE — Patrick's rep has issued the following statement to TMZ: "Patrick's physician Dr. George Fisher states,'Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic.' Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects. The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family."

You were my first love, Patrick! And I wish you nothin' but.
1Oh sooo sad!! I've always enjoyed his work!!
2I was hoping this one was just rude gossip. I can't imagine him dying!! I mean...he is still young!!! Well, to me he is anyway. I hope he has some luck with treatment soon. Sam Wheat was one of my all time favorite movie characters.
3That is sad. I do think it was disgusting of the National Enquirer to post a story about his cancer and say he only had 5 weeks to live
They are a disgusting publication
4
be with him Lord.
i hope his family is going to be ok..i know how it feels to lose a loved one to cancer
5i agree jessness..that was really low of them
really low.
6omg!!! i was hoping this was just a rumor!! o no how incredibly sad
7This is so sad. One of my dad's friends is dying from it, and the worst part of being diagnosed is that when you catch it, it's usually too late because symptoms aren't so obvious.
8So tragic! I hope it's not in advanced stage and that he can stay among us for many years.
9This is terrible. I heard the rumor but I was just really hoping for it to be false.....
10sad.
11This is so sad! My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
12I actually saw it on a couple of news sites. I am not sure if he has only five weeks to live, which is what was said, but they did say his treatments were not helping much.
13So sad.
My grandfather died of pancreatic cancer, so I know how hard this must be for him and
his family. Shame on The National Enquirer for treated such a serious, personal issue as just another headline.
14I was so hoping it was false too
so sad...
15That's very sad news. How unfortunately ironic. I just found out today my uncle has this particular cancer as well. I hope it was caught early and that he has a speedy recovery...
16So sorry to hear this....my thoughts and prayers are with his family & loved ones.
17This f*cking sucks
18Pancreatic cancer is one the more difficult kinds to diagnose in time to do anything about it. This is so sad. He always seemed like such a nice person. My thoughts and prayer are with him and his wife.
19He was my first love too. I'll miss you, Johnny. . .
20Oh how very sad!
21i hope there's a fast recovery.
he's my second cousin. [seriously tho]
22:/
that is so sad.
23Poor Swayze. I bet it was tough to tell the world about this, but looks like he still has lots of fans sending him get-well wishes.
24Devastating news... I was hoping that this rumour was a disgusting lie, my thoughts and prayers are with him, I've lost my father to a cancer and he was way too young like him. That's really depressing...
25wow, i can't even begin to fathom what that's like....best of luck to him and his family...
26Oh no. NO. This cannot be true. Ugh. Damn.
27My prayers are with Patrick & his family during this difficult time. He was an amazing actor and he will definitely be in my prayers. =(
28He still is a great actor. I think he just wrapped up a movie. Praying he is one of the lucky few who can beat this.
29Sad.He is a good actor and i like him a lot
30Oh, and what makes me ill is that he basically HAD to come out and tell the world about this since the Nat'l Enquirer ran their sleazy ass story. What if he wanted to be treated privately? I wonder who the spilled the beans for big bucks to NE..."friends" or medical professionals who are supposed to keep such things confidential.
31Sigh...I love him in the Chippendales skit with Chris Farley and in Point Break.
Cannot believe it - he is truly a great person and I hope that he and his family are left alone to deal with such a painful thing in private. Best wishes for a modern day miracle, Pat!
32Oh my gosh. How sad. Pessimistically, I'm afraid pancreatic cancer has one of the highest mortality rates. Also, patients usually don't have long to live.
33It's so sad, that is an incredibly hard cancer to try and beat.
34my assistant told me about this earlier today and got a few facts wrong - but i'm sad to see that it's confirmed that he has cancer. he's an amazing actor/dancer/person. i wish him and his family the best.
35I love Dirty Dancing and Ghost.
36Sad news
That is very sad. Pancreatic cancer is asymptomatic so by the time they catch it, it is usually because it has spread to other organs and THOSE organs showed symptoms. Usually there is only a few months or less to live and you can't really do surgery
Very sad.
37oh how sad. i hope he recovers. this is so heartbreaking.
38Apparently, his prognosis is not quite so grave as the National Enquirer made it sound.

39What's important now is that people posting to this comments section tell everybody about how they'd heard this story before reading it here, just so everyone else knows that they already knew about it and are ahead of the "completely meaningless pop information" game.
Stay focused, strangers!
40Oh, that's sad! I loved him in Dirty Dancing which is one of my fave movies!
41I read this earlier and was really hoping it wasn't true. JennaV - You said it. This f*cking sucks. Dirty Dancing is one of my guilty pleasures. I love him in that movie. Point Break, Road House. I feel so stupid because I really feel like crap right now. I don't mean to trivialize anyone who has lost a loved one to cancer, but it feels like I just found out that a close friend is sick.
42so sad, hopefully he will be lucky and survive this, but it's very hard to deal with alone but with all the media as well-ugh.
43Be well Swayze!
Thanks for the link Jenna. Hopefully, he'll be OK. I hate the Enquirer. Bunch of bastards.
44i am really sorry. dyrty dancing is one of my favorite movies. I know that is one of the worst kind of cancer. it should be one person right to make public or not this kind of news, even if they are famous.
45good update! that makes me feel a little better for the time being! hopefully this outpour of support helps him through this! i was in love with him when dirty dancing came out. still am.
46Horrible news. I hope he gets well soon
47Very sad!
48Too sad. I pray that he will recover and for comfort for him and his family.
49I hope someone will shut down all those gossip mags, especially national enquirer *shaking fist*. also, hopefully one day tone down all the stupid gossip websites.
50oh patrick... I hope he lives longer. theres hoping.
