America looks like she's having a great time shooting new scenes for Ugly Betty with Rebecca Romijn. Looks like we are not the only fans of the actress who just won Golden Globes for both best actress and best comedy. Yesterday Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis praised America to the US House of Representatives for her work in advancing awareness of the Latino community! She said:

"Madame Speaker, I rise today to congratulate America Ferrera for winning the Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy for her work in the ABC show Ugly Betty," Solis said.
"Through her work, Ms. Ferrera is breaking down barriers for Latinos in prime-time television. ... I commend America and everyone involved in Ugly Betty for helping to break down stereotypes and provide a role model for young Latinas."
Wow! There's something that doesn't happen every day. Sounds like America is America's new sweetheart! For more pics of the shoot including Judith Light (remember her from Who's the Boss?) just read more

that's *really* cool. That doesn't happen every day!
1i agree neural. i just don't understand why they cast rebecca romijn. the show is already a success without her.
2I agree that they didn't really need Rebecca Romijn, it just seems off because originally the woman who was the former editor was supposed to have been around Mode for a lot longer, making her a heck of a lot older than Rebecca, they must be taking it in a different direction I guess, but it didn't make sense to me.
3That's wonderful, but I'm latino and never really thought about it as being anything more than a great show. Maybe that's the win right there, "the fact that I don't view because there's a latina in the role." I watch simply because it's good tv."
4I think Rebecca Romijn's part in the show could be because the woman in the mask had extensive plastic surgery after the accident and is disguising herself or something like that. I'm certain there has to be a twist; the writers aren't that dense to go back on the storyline. ??
5That is so awesome! Congrats to her!
6i always got judith light confused with joanna kerns from "growing pains". god i am such a child of the '80s!
7EdwinaTheLovely,
I think the reason the Congresswoman bothered to laud Ferrera and the show is that prior to this program, there really haven't been any positive female Hispanic role models on television. Unfortunately, there haven't really been any positive Hispanic role models on TV or in movies, period.
I know what you mean about not watching a show simply because the actors/actresses are of a certain ethnic group. That doesn't influence my likelihood of watching shows.
8Ahh, she is a sweetheart. I'm happy for her and her successes.
9the age difference will probably be explained in the show but i just don't think rebecca romijn's a good actress. hopefully this role be like her role as mystique- minimal lines.
10America is so deserving of all the kudos she's been given lately. I've been a fan ever since I saw her in Real Women Have Curves. She's a great actress and I wish her continued success.
11So great for America. I would LOVE her to be America's New Sweetheart
12Preppy to the max!
i like her too & i'm glad her show is doing so well and that people are embracing her. i think she's a great role model. i totally agree with you, themexcellentone
13That is awesome. Good for America.
14This certainly doesnt happen a lot. I love America and everything she said about her was so true. I hope she wins Golden Globes and Emmys for years to come.
15I am so happy for her success I LOVE Ugly Betty!
16Themexcellentone, there have been many hispanic characters on tv and in movies. I think America is a great actress, and the show is fun, but I don't think that people should support a show simply because of the race of the characters/actors.
There are many hispanic characters all over tv. Immediately coming to mind are Dexter, CSI Miami, Six Feet Under, Desperate Housewives, ...I could go on all day. The bottom lines is, while Latinos are under represented by a small percentage, they are not excluded or avoided in tv and film.
17shes so sweet! I remember when I first saw her on tv a couple years ago on the Disney channel movie "Gotta Kick it Up" haha
18Lurve her and "Ugly Betty"!
19hooray for America!!!
20That is awesome. America is fantastic. I love what this show is all about.
21I cabn't wait to see this show when it starts here in Australia.

24I think rebecca romijn's character is supposed to be the brother who supposedly died on teh slopes, but actually got plstic surgery to become a "woman"?
25Good for her, shes awesome!
26I love the show and love her-congrats. I think the show promotes more of "there are more important things than just looks". Being a postive role model is what should matter most.
Go Betty!
27I love the show and I love last night's twist. I cant believe that RRS is playing Alex!
