It's black, it's white, it's Charlize Theron's blazer collection outside Letterman yesterday. The Sleepwalking star stopped by to visit Dave last night, looking gorgeous as usual. Charlize talked about recently becoming an American citizen — congrats! — and her recent time up in Boston getting her Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year award while "completely wasted." Fun times. Of course, she also touched upon that movie of hers and what it was like to film in 57 below zero. Brrrrrrr.

ohh i didn't realize that she became an American Citizen...good for her
i hope that
hre movie is a good one. she's getting a lot of slack for picking roles that make her less than attractive these days.
1LOVE HER!
2Stunning, simply stunning.
3she should have kept her south african citizenship.
being an american citizen is embarrassing. lol. i kid, i kid.
4flawless.........
5the pant length and the shoes, perfect.
6I had no idea she was born in South Africa! Neat!
7She is very pretty though
Like her too!
8Good Lord, she's gorgeous.
9can u get any more perfect?
10people who are giving her flack are just shallow and sexist because these are the same people that praise to death the likes of Daniel Day Lewis, Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro and Christian Bale whenever they physically transform for a role. But a beautiful one does it and soemthing is wrong? Such crap. And what "ugly" roleS. The only ugly role she did was in Monster. Where she was playing a REAL life woman. She had to look like her. Now since Monster people overplay the uglying up thing and all she has to do is dye her hair back brown and they say she's trying to ugly up. IN Sleepwalking she doesn't look ugly. That's jsut stupid. And she looked just fine in North Country and In the Valley of Elah too. But I guess they expect her to only be eye candy for them. Sorry she's not trying to look like Marilyn Monroe and Lana Turner in every movie but she is playing REALISTIC complex women in her films. She deserves props not flack.
Oh and did you see that interview. Letterman could barely concentrate he was so bowled over by Charlize's great beauty. ha ha.
11She's stunning. I love seeing her in red lipstick. She looks lovely.
12Absolutely goregous. Agreed Trixie, she looks fabulous in red lipstick
13She's okay i guess.
14FAB and Gorgeous etc!
haha
15She looks beautiful. congrats to her
16She's very pretty indeed, until she opens her big mouth.
17LOL, she's fun.
18i find her fake american accent absolutely hilarious.
19sundaygreen you're rude. Charlize learned English in an American accent. How hard is that to understand? She's explained that so many times. Just because she's from South Africa doesn't mean she should have a thick accent if she learned English in an American accent over here. You actually think she is faking every single time she gives an interview? lol. No she learned English over here watching American tv.
20Charlize could have made a career out of being eye candy but she didn't and kudos to her. I think she's fabulous.
21Wow she's gorgeous!!!!
22aquariuspatsfan, i am south african and she only left south africa when she was 16. i do not believe for one second that she couldn't speak english and that she "LEARNT ENGLISH" from american tv. that is laughable, because no matter what your first language is here (and we have 11 official languages), EVERYONE can speak english. and english is COMPULSORY in school.
i know people who moved away from here to canada or australia when they were still in high school, and they still have their south african accents - no matter how long they've been out of the country. the only reason she adopted an american accent was for getting ahead in the industry!
23and I know people who just came from South Africa that speaks exactly the same way Charlize does. So your point is? Are you trying to say she is faking the way she speaks? I find that hard to believe she would exhaust herself that much. She said herself she learned English in an American accent. She didn't know it well before and she learned it watching tv. You can call her a liar if it makes you feel better but that's what she said. And like I said I know people that just came from South Africa and speak the same exact way Charlize does.
People like you that are trying so hard to call someone unpatriotic and traitors to their own country over every little thing are annoying. Leave the girl alone. She comes from bad beginnings a traumatic childhood and has really made it in hollywood and still gives back to her country and shows pride for her country. What do want from her? Leave her alone.
I don't for one second believe Charlize secretly has a very heavy South African accent and puts on a front for her friends, boyfriend, co workers and everyone. lol. Is that what you're trying to say? If she lost her accent get over it. This is the way she speaks now. It's not fake. Same thing happened to Mel Gibson. So what? Doesn't mean anything.
24She acquired the American accent in order to help her in Hollywood, that's all there is to it.
25Just to reiterate my point, direct quotes from Charlize, and also from several articles:
'At first I found it really hard using three different English accents: South African, faking the American, faking the accent required by the job. I decided to make it easier for myself and just do one. I haven't lost my culture, just my accent.' (via imdb. com)
"With no money to pay for a coach to perfect her English accent, Charlize Theron set out to lose her South African accent (her mother tongue is Afrikaans) by singing along to popular music and watching American television shows." (askmen. com article)
"At a press conference on Tuesday morning at the Westcliff Hotel, Theron explained that acquiring the accent was part of "moulding" herself for a successful career. "I have always gotten into trouble for speaking with an American accent," she said, "but that is what has helped me to survive. There are 40 000 other girls out there wanting to do the same thing, so I do what I need to do, and if you are not willing to make adjustments to how you speak, it's never going to happen." (iol.co.za article)
Haha, I LOVE being right!
26She does have a South African twang where she sounds South African sometimes on some words.
