Ryan Phillippe came out to premiere his new movie Stop-Loss in LA last night, but he didn't have his costar/girlfriend Abbie Cornish on his arm. In fact, she didn't come to her premiere at all, which isn't much of a surprise since the studio's PR team didn't want the couple promoting the movie together and reminding everyone of the Ryan-Reese break up. Instead, Ryan was joined by his male costars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Channing Tatum. It's been a while since we've had Ryan as the leading man so it should be interesting to see if he can pull off this heart-wrenching film with his fellow leading men and women.

12this is such a double edged sword with abby and ryan. i'm not a fan of hers becuase of the whole break-up but this is her first big movie isn't it? so to think that she can't be in the same place as ryan while the movie is being discussed etc...PR events and the sort has to be somewhat painful. we can only hope that ryan plays the doting dad more so he's not able to go to the junkets around the world.

22As for the movie, seems like it might be good, but Abbie Cornish has about as much acting talent as a tree stump...she was awful in an otherwise ok A Good Year with Russell Crowe and Marion Cotillard...ok, maybe she was just out of her league!!!

25Seriously, forget about Ryan, I'll take Channing any day!! Step Up is one of my absolutely favorite guilty pleasures. Anyone who can move their body like that gets a thumbs up in my book....mmm.
26@LaurenG22: My husband is in the military too and feels the same way. What gets me about the trailers is when he says something about how he honored his contract and he expects the Army to do the same but it's clearly stated in the contract that you're agreeing to X number of years in ACTIVE service *AND* X number of years in RESERVE status where, if needed (like at a time of war, duh), you CAN be called up. So, technically, he has NOT honored his full contract. I think the trailer is meant to deliberately confuse civilians about what "stop loss" is and how it really works.
Disclaimer: I am a registered Democrat, never supported the war and think it's eff'd up that our military men and women are put into these situations... but a contract is a contract. Without stop-loss or IA (where AF and Navy are loaned to the Army), there would HAVE to be a civilian draft... and that's not good for the country or the military.
27Oh, and I almost forgot, my husband and I are both from Texas and neither one of us has accents like that. We also don't wear cowboy boots or hats or plaid shirts with pearl button snaps. And we don't drive pick-up trucks. I hate that Texans are perceived that way.
28This is probably Abbie's most noteable film role to date, it's too bad that she can't walk the red carpet for it. But, I suppose that's what you get when you sleep with your married co-stars!

32Abbie was awesome in Candy. She didn't impress me in A Good Year but that movie was terrible.
Stop Loss looks good and the Ryan/Joe/Channing combo would get me to the theater regardless even it this was the worst movie ever. I just hope its a good movie. The director is from Texas and supposedly based it on her brother who is in Iraq she has a website and has shown the movie to lots of military people. Most of them say they really like it (some don't of course).
