The nominations for the 75th Academy Awards were announced this morning in Los Angeles by Salma Hayek and Sid Ganis. Dreamgirls scored the most nominations with eight, but was shut out of the Best Picture category (Beyonce was also passed over). Babel came in with seven nominations, and while it scored two acting noms, some of its actors, most notably Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett who many thought were shoo-ins, were also left out. - Best Picture
The Departed
Babel

I hope Meryl S. wins. I loved her role in the Devil Wears Prada.
1how awesome is it that abigail breslin was nominated? loved j.hud, but i wouldn't be crushed if abigail pulls a tatum o'neal and wins. and i'm rooting for forest whitaker all the way. he was phenomenal! rooting for helen mirren, but after 4 previous nominations kate winslet deserves some oscar love.
2Oh I love Meryl Streep! She was so great in the Devil Wears Prada! That movie was awesome.
3Will Smith for best actor - that movie made me cry for hours.
4Best picture - Babel, got my money on that one
5Kate Winslet is on her way to tying Meryl Streep for most nominations but I see Helen winning this,I would love Forest to win but Leo was amazing in blood Diamond as a Zimbabwean I can say he pulled off the Rhodesian thing very well, and Jennifer Hudson i love that chick.
Now let's take a minute to write an obituary for Beyonce's Oscar hope.
6You should have gained the 20 pound beyotch.
My day would be made if Meryl wins, but I also think Helen will win. Too bad there isn't a comedy category like at the Globes because Meryl would win hands down!
7I am pretty happy with the nominations this year. While I wish Leo would have been nominated for The Departed as well, he would have split his vote. Great to see Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet, Mark Wahlberg and Djimon Hounsou on the list as well!
8Awww.. I want Abigail to win!! AND HOLY CRAP - Ryan Gosling? Where did that come from!! That means he and Rachel will be there... YESSSSSS!
9yeah i agree yiddidea, the nominations are great this year. glad to see Djimon Hounsou nominated, well deserved.
10But i sense a little racism happening here, Beyonce NOT nominated. I think the NAACP needs to get on this years oscar nomination.
No Brad Pitt? too bad... may be someday ....
11Yay JHud!
12I think Abigail is wayyyy too young to win an Oscar and it's so dangerous for little kids to start off so big.
So yeah, definitly team Hudson!
~Trust Fate*Have Hope*Love Always~
I think these noms are pretty on target. The only thing that puzzles me is why Mark Wahlberg was nominated for supporting actor in The Departed instead of Jack Nicholson, because his role was really pretty small, and IMO far less noteworthy than Jack's
Oh well.
13I want to see "Half Nelson" SO BADLY! I hear it is an amazing performance.
14I'm thrilled for Ryan Gosling and Mark Wahlberg.
The Best Actress cateogry had no surprises.
Leo got nominated for Blood Diamond? I expected he would for 'The Departed' instead.
All in all, I like how international the Oscars have become. They seem to look for the best everywhere, which is the way it should be since Hollywood isn't the only place where movies are made and where the best actors go.
15Great call Oscars..Kinda surprised Brad was not in it though!!!
16My Picks:
Best Movie: Not sure
17Best Actor: Will Smith - he deserves it!
Best Actress: Meryl Streep..definitely!
Best Supporting Male - Dijimon Hounsou
Best Supporting Female - J. Hudson - GO GIRL! I won't be suprised if she doesn't get it though..politics..
Best Director - Martin Scorcese
Miss-Britt? How is it that you sense racism? All because Beyonce didn't get a nom? Did you not see Eddie, Will, Forest, Djimon and J. Hud up there? Maybe some discrimination, but not racism....sheesh!
18Sweetascandi81 - Tatum O'Neal was the youngest person to ever win an Oscar and Anna Paquin is the second youngest so it's happened before!! I think Abigail seems pretty wise for her age too. Yeah for Little Miss Sunshine.
19I second! BKNYGal
20I hope the Departed wins for best movie, I am so glad that Ryan that got nominated for Half Nelson, he is a wonderful actor
21I compeletely agree BKNYGal. Just because Beyonce didn't get the nom I don't see that as racism! There was some tough competition this year and at least Eddie & Jennifer were recognized.
22Yay for LMS, Babel, and Pan´s Labyrinth. and yay for for Ryan!!!
and LOL no Brad Pitt, he didn´t deserve it.
23Perhaps miss-britt was being sarcastic? Remember Beyonce Knowles dad cried racism after Beyonce didn't win the Golden Globe.
Here is what he said - "Today is Martin Luther King's birthday and it saddens me to say that things have not changed for blacks. Working class blacks and blacks in Hollywood are still being discriminated against. We still have a long way to go."
24Beyonce is a singer, she is not a believable actress. In fact, her acting makes me cringe. I do not think this is a skin colr issue, considering Jen and Forrest are shoe- ins.
I think these are totally on point. Brad's part in Babel was kind of small, but the fact that two films he ois associated with are up for best pic, he must be happy.
I am happy for Mark W., he is finally on the real A list.
Judi Dench is ALWAYS nominated. She could spell the alphabet and be nominated for an oscar.
25Shouldn't Meryl Streep be nominated for best supporting actress, as apposed to best actress?
26I can't really say much on the others as I've only seen that film, none of the others.
I think it is truly sad that one has to make it a racial issue, when Pappa Knowles just can not handle the fact that Beyonce is not the best of the group. I bet it was a lot of fun being in Destiny's Child for the OTHER girls. No wonder they had like 86 members.
27Blood Diamond got snubbed for best picture.
28The race issue is no existant except for those who are racist themselves. There are PLENTY of black talent nominated, and plenty of work by black artists. Beyonce didn't get nominated because she didn't deserve it. Most reveiws said the movie worked despite her flat performance. She isn't an Oscar caliber actress by far.
You cheapen things by pulling the race card when it is not necessary.
29i think matt damon deserved a nod for the departed over mark walbergh. mark was good, but matt was better. i'm inclined to agree with whoever said miss-britt was just being sarcastic. ya know, since it's always EVERYONE ELSE'S fault when beyonce doesn't get what she "deserves."
30I'm just happy Ryan got nominated--I've liked him for years (did anyone see him in "The Believer"?), and it's awesome to finally see him get some recognition.
31yay, good noms. i hope the departed wins for best pic, it is seriously one of the best all- round movies i have seen in a while - great cast, great acting, great script! it's kinda like the Mystic River - all those great actors giving such powerful performances WITHOUT overacting!
32I would have sensed sarcasm if the comment followed with a jk or lol, gag face, smiley face..etc. But whatever.
33i think the Best Actor will be the most anticipated award - i mean leo , ryan and forest? i wouldn't know who to pick.
yay, no beyonce - i'm sure she wasn't even 6th pick!! hopefully then she won't be able to make it and we won't have to be subjected to that awful new pose of hers!!
34kind of disappointed matt didn't get nominated for 'good shepherd' actually. but it's a crowded field this year. there was buzz that sacha baron cohen would be nominated, but he could win for screenplay. i think the academy did a pretty good job this year overall
35what was soo awesome abt Meryl streeps performance in the D wears Prada???
36*Deba---i havent seen the pursuit of happiness yet..but a friend said he also cried..must be very good
37the noms are excellent. I think there's a lot of diversity this year despite Ms. B not being nominated. I'm not surprised though. Once the movie came out everyone could see the way the wind was blowing, and it wasn't anywhere near beyonce. I forget she was in the movie for a while. I think everyone needs to do her a favor and stop hyping her up so much. I think she sort of expects to get nominated for everything because she's Beyonce. I loved sexy Leo in Blood Diamond, but I want Will to win because he should have won for Ali a couple of years ago. I'm from chicago so j-hud all the way. Such a humble classy lady and a killer voice.
Go Bears!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
38(sorry I had to add that)
HAHAHHAHA Roor...i hope so as well...
39yes, i totally agree with your comment Libby. Will should have won for Ali..so hopefully he gets this one!
Pursuit of Happyness was a great movie..i cried..the people i know who went to see it cried..and hubby cried.
40The thing with meryl streeps performance is that you completely forget that its Bridges of Madison County-esq Meryl. She does such a good job at playing Miranda that u begin to think that she's like Anna Wintour from Vogue.
41i'd be happy if will won, but i have issues with someone winning because they lost in a previous year. nicole kidman is a prime example -- she lost for 'moulin rouge' and wasn't nominated for 'to die for' but won for an inferior performance in 'the hours' instead of julianne moore taking the statue home. same with judi dench who was snubbed in '97 but won the next year for an 8-minute(!) role in 'shakespeare in love'. not saying will doesn't deserve it for happyness, btw.
42Ok, I'll say it. I think it's funny that Beyonce didn't get nominated. I laughed. Her acting is mediocre at best, does she think that everything she does deserves praise and recognition?
43I hope that she's somewhere with her arms in the air, crying while her daddy tells her how amazing she is. Maybe he'll buy her an Oscar for her birthday.
I am surprised that DiCaprio's mediocre performance in Blood Diamond got a nomination. I am also surprised by Streep's nomination. I guess this is one instance where name recognition went a long way.
I am very happy that Gosling was nominated for Half Nelson as his performance was excellent. However, the real winner here is Forest Whittaker. He is excellent in The Last King of Scotland and deserves to win this one.
44agreed dsbn! he was amazing. i also thought james mcavoy was terrific in that.
45when r they?
46i'm sorry if i offended anyone i was making a joke after what Beyonce's father said after his daughter didn't win the golden globe on monday. sorry.
47yes i want meryl s to win too. love love her in devils!!
48I think the Best Actress category is perfect...I actually had written those ladies names down on a post-it note 3 weeks ago as the women I wanted to see nominated.
I am really excited that Ryan Gosling was nominated. He has gotten rave reviews, but it was such a small film that didn't get much press. On CNN they had filed him under "Deserves to be nominated, but doesn't have a chance".
Children of Men got a nomination for cinematography. Woo hoo! That movie is amazing, and the cinematograher was brilliant. I sometimes couldn't breathe because I really felt like I was there. Its very intense, and really deserved the nomination.
49'sok, miss britt. her father is pretty damn obnoxious IMO. the man needs a reality check, along with dina lohan and joe simpson
