A lot of people were upset with O's interview with the kidnapped boy's from Missouri, Rosie was just not afraid to speak out on it. I think Oprah's a good person but maybe in this case she should have handled things differently.

I don't think it's acceptable to use racial or any other kinds of slurs (especially not the f word for gays and the n word for black people) but it just seems to me that people are OVERLY sensitive to people saying anything negitive whatsoever about anything. Well,Isaiah said his comments in a public venue and considering he said then about a homosexual cast members who was IN THE ROOM, I think there is every right to have a sensitivity issue there.

i don't think anyone is being overly sensitive. slurs are hurtful, period. i think it's nuts that anyone thinks that it should be ok for his cast member to just 'deal with it'. cast members are co-workers and had he said that in an office or any other work setting, he'd be canned.

I don't think anyone here is advocating racial slurs. I haven't seen it here. But our environment has gotten entirely too PC.

You know what these groups do? They love when stuff like this happens. Because they use it to put their stuff in the spotlight. I have some pretty good gay guy friends. They HATE these groups. They promote the most ridiculous crap and use it to get on a high horse. It helps them get money. I'm so wary of these groups, be it race based, sexual orientation based, to environmental. While they may have started out with good intentions, it becomes about the money. They aren't interested in your time, they just want $$. I've seen them attack others and try to ruin them. I saw it happen with my company. Condemn this guy, fine. But this is so over the top.

And what would really make me support this whole thing with Isaih would be for the gay rights group, the black rights group, AND the jewish rights group to band together, and put Isaih, Michael, and Mel together in an add and address ALL discrimination. You want to really make people think instead of adopting pet causes. If I was a part of the black rights group, I'd be condemning his butt right now. Then maybe, Mel can do a movie on how a jew hater (make this guy gay), gay hater (make him black), and black hater (make him jewish) get stuck on an island and have to overcome their crap to survive. the people who work for the groups you mentioned don't earn a lot of money. i know, i worked for a women's organization and an environmental organization through college. they don't like it when it happens but they are going to use the opportunity to bring the spotlight to their cause, nothing wrong with that. a non-profit is going to use free advertising.

BlueJeanie, the company I worked for was volunteerily dealing with an environmental group. When we didn't buy a specific brand of a system, they attacked us. I know people in the middle that pretty much could validate it was kick back city. I'm talking the big groups, groups like UCS. I also work for some legitamate groups and trust me, not all are bad. But the ones jumping this wagon, I seriously question. My point is that ALL discrimination is bad and it would be more admirable if the group attacking Richards for this would jump on this too. Again, this is about money. These groups would attack their own if someone got up and spoke about the promiscuous activity of gay men and AIDS, or the poor quality of fatherhood in general in black men. Look what they did to Bill Cosby? My uncle is dying of AIDS and it sure would have been nice if the local gay brand of THIS group in his community wouldn't have been so fricken busy teaching him how everyone is haters and to go express themselves after he came out. I agree that our society makes bigger deal about certain people saying certain things. Words are words, and if you sit down and listen to a rap song, ( which I am not slamming rap in any way since I am a fan of a lot of hip hop music)some of the songs are FILLED with racial slurs, I do not see these albums being banned in the U.S.

There's too much mean stuff going on. People make fun of others for everything. They gossip about made-up stuff, and ridicule people for things they can't help. They say people are gay who aren't gay and bash them for it. The tabloids print lies to sell papers. They say people are breaking up when they aren't, that someone's baby isn't really theirs and other things that hurt people. I think American society has gotten really cruel. Maybe it's time to stop hurting people. Rosie has a big mouth and she acts like a big know-it-all when she doesn't know what she's talkng about. She should quit sticking her nose in other people's business.

Well, I have no problem with gay people as long as it isn't shoved down my throat. Long story short, my gay friend in New Orleans (has had only one partner in his life for over 20 years BTW) has been emailing me today, teasing me about something. Said he was going to make me a scarlett letter. I email back and said, ohhhh, is it going to have shiney thread and glitter? His response: "What kind of faggot do you think I am? Of course it does." I watched the Oprah interview and she didn't grill him until he told all. There were some questions that were not asked because it wasn't the time or the place for him to discuss them. He only answered the questions he felt comfortable answering. The rest he declined to respond to. I thought his parents brought him on the show so he would only have to do one interview. You know that family has probably been hounded since he was rescued from that monster. If they refused to talk to any one the press would not have left them in peace. Now that they have done an interview maybe some of the pressure can be taken off of this family. Shawn has a long, hard road ahead of him. I pray that he is able to reclaim his life.

Rosie seems to thrive on conflict. She could voice her opinions in a way that would not put people on the defensive. I believe she enjoys the fight.
