Pink has never been shy about expressing herself, and her feelings on animal rights are no exception. Last month she teamed up with PETA to boycott wool, and now she's playing on Hollywood's weight obsession to try to get celebs to stop wearing fur. Here's more:

"My new campaign is 'Fur: It Makes You Look Fat'," Pink says, followed by a wicked laugh.
"If we say fur is actually not flattering, maybe more of these people will care if they think they look fat, because obviously they don't care they're skinning animals alive for the fur."
In addition to trying to bring down the fur industry one weight conscious person at a time, Pink also adamantly denies past rumors that she called Beyonce a b*tch for wearing fur. She said, "If they wore fur I'd call them uninformed, unintelligent, ignorant and disgusting, but not a bitch." Pink's passion is admirable, but we're skeptical about how notorious fur lovers like Mary-Kate and Nicole Richie will respond to this new campaign.

why dont they humanely kill animals before skinning them? why do they do it alive?? thats awefull!!
1you go pink!!!!!!! stupid celebrity girls never caring or thinking about anyone except themselves.
2Yayita, if I recall correctly, I think I remember you saying "I eat fur". Correct me if I'm wrong, but why do you suddenly have such an interest in this?

Weeeeeeee!
Don't they raise those animals specifically for their fur? Wouldn't that be the same as raising pigs, chickens and cows for food?
4BTW, I think Pink is doing a great job being an advocate for animal rights. At last a celebrity is using her celebrity for something good rather than for her own advances.

Summer, unlike raising pigs or cows, they do not use the whole animal, they abuse these animals their whole lives, use cruel means to kill them, and only use the fur, they discard the bodies or even ground up the bodies and feed them to the living animals on the farm. If anyone wants more information on this issue, visit my page, I posted a blog about it.

Whatever works.
7One of my pet peeves is folks who cry bloody murder over fur, but eat meat. Totally hypocritical, IMO. Naturally, most of those folks have no idea how inhumanely their chicken or pig was slaughtered before ending up on their plate.
Humans don't "need" to eat meat any more than they "need" to wear fur -- internal or external, it's all Luxury in the end. I see absolutely no difference between the two.
8Thanks for that info ashley, I had no idea the animals were treated in such a way. I have never given it much thought when activists do their thing because I do not wear fur, I think it is just creepy.

I don't wear animals nor do I eat them. That's all I have to say about that.
10Oh God, I'm not even going to get into this debate..
11I just felt the need to comment on Pink's shoes. C'mon! They are uuuugly!

good for her for being sane...
12first i'll say, i am a member of peta, so i do agree with fighting for animals rights, and i'm happy she, along with other really famous people, are using their status to help stop this cruelty.
but i also wanted to point out it looks to me like she is in fact wearing a pair of ugg boots that are made of wool, from australia, which happens to be the place where the animals are treated the worst, as far as sheering (when they cut off the fur around the but so poop doesn't get stuck to the fur and damage it) ugg is one of the companies under attack.
13
14"If they wore fur I'd call them uninformed, unintelligent, ignorant and disgusting, but not a b*tch."
I love Pink's stance on fur, but I would find those adjectives more upsetting than being called a b*tch.
15Love Pink.
16I agrre that the fur trade is pretty evil, but I think the whole wool thing is going a bit far. I'm sure the MAJORITY of wool has been gotton with little effect to the sheep, shearing shouldn't hurt a sheep and sheep actually need to be sheared to keep them cool, so you're basiclly taking something from an animal that they can do just fine without- like eggs from a chicken, and I'm pretty sure Pink doesn't have a problem with eating eggs!
17i see what you mean, and i know that shearing sheep is nice for them, but the sheep farmers in australia do not have the same laws to abide by as we do. i have seen first hand how the sheep are sheared (in australia) and it's done carelessly, often leaving the animals with open wounds that are not taken care of at all. i worked on a farm while in australia, and i have seen this done, it's the reason i quit the job. i'm not saying all people shear sheep the same way, but i have seen for myself these poor animals die from wounds that have been infected.
18This is such a huge debate it could go on forever. Personally I think its all an individual matter - we all give/do as much as we feel we can. I ate vegan for a long time but did not give up leather shoes and handbags because for me that would have been giving up a huge part of my lifestyle (fashion). People definitely called me a hypocrite, but if you think about I was still giving a lot to a cause I believe in. Just because I didn't give up everything doesn't mean I wasn't helping. (I still don't eat meat or dairy but do eat some fish now in case your wondering - and I'm still contributing to the fight against factory farms and inhumane animal practices in my own way)
If you want to wear wool or even fur or eat meat, that's your own preference, but the injustices and horrifying treatment in the industry do exist in all areas. We can't pretend they don't. Its just a matter of contributing what you can and making clear what you believe in.
I think a lot of the things PeTA does are great but the way they try to flat out boycott things is a bit idealistic and unrealistic. They should just focus on making sure the public is informed of what is going on and work on making change at a smaller level, IMO.
19I just think it seems that these people care more about animals than people and that is a problem for me...
20Love Pink and I love that she is taking a stand.
21Not trying to start an argument here but a lot of people don't know that PETA ultimately wants there to be no pets in the world of any kind. They don't believe animals should be owned by people. So for all the people who give money or support PETA and own pets, remember that if they had their way they'd let your dogs and cats free in the wilderness somewhere. That's just one reason I don't care for PETA. Some of the things they do are ok. A lot of them just aren't. Just my opinion.
22okay, sure i dont believe in unethical treatment of animals, but i do agree that killing animals for fur is on some levels the same as killing them for food, not saying that its right or wrong, everyone is entitled to their own actions, and their own opinions, personally I live in Canada and its cold here, so if i want to wear fur then ill wear fur, but i dont eat meat, and chances are i would wear fake fur, basically all i mean is to each their own, and im sorry "pink" but some of us need to wear wool to stay warm, we arent all living in california hun, get a life,. Personally i dont think its very nice to say fur makes you look fat and refer to celebrities that may have underlying problems, i hope she loses some fans and offends some people because issues that have to do with humans and their emotional and mental issues aren't things that we should take lightly OR make fun of, personally i think if shes so passionate about not wearing fur, then she should just peacefully keep it off her own back, and let others worry about themselves, there are more important issues to rag on.
23i agree with her 100%, the only way to get through to these people is through their vanity lol
24I live in -15 weather in winter. There's no way i'm not gonna my fur coat.
25I sometimes think the anti-fur campaign is a losing battle. Just like trying to save the rainforest, and the whales, and putting an end to poverty. Most people just don't care. They live in this self centered little bubble, where only their own needs and wants matter. It's so frustrating.
You go, Pink!
26Fur is the new fat? What about that awful outfit she has on - it's not exactly slimming.
27dulseske - yup,it's sad and pathetic that some people are so vain and selfish they don't care that an animal suffered and cried for the coat they proudly wear. But I also know that there are amazing, humane and caring people out there who want to inform others and/or help inform others.
It's pathetic this is even a debate. Killing, totoring, and skinning animals alive to sell as coats is WRONG! Now, is that so hard to understand??
superjules, you are sadly misinformed. That is not what Peta is aiming for AT ALL. This comes directly from their website:
"Contrary to myth, PETA does not want to confiscate animals who are well cared for and "set them free." What we want is for the population of dogs and cats to be reduced through spaying and neutering and for people to adopt animals (preferably two so that they can keep each other company when their human companions aren't home) from pounds or shelters—never from pet shops or breeders—thereby reducing suffering in the world."(http://www.peta.org/campaigns/ar-petaonpets.asp)
GO PINK!!! Good for her for trying to do something good in the world!
28I know I'm going to be up agianst fire on this board by all the disgusting people out there who wear fur - so BRING IT ON!!
29You're right, Serena. I shouldn't generalize like that. I know there are plenty of people out there who strongly believe in the humane treatment of animals, and try and make huge changes. I just get so disappointed when I see how stubborn some people can be about fur.
I just want to
shake them and make them see how wrong it is, on so many levels. I just can't fathom how some people don't understand how cruel it is to wear fur for luxury.
30Superjules, I'm not sure who told you PETA was anti-pet but that is not true at all, PETA is pro pet and one of the goals of their organization is that people properly care for their domesticated friends. If you don't believe me look on the www.peta.com website. Also the reason Pink is anti-wool is because of a practice called meusling (that might be spelled wrong) where the sheep has a chunk cut out of it to prevent maggot infestation. So basically the sheep are either maggot ridden or cut and bloodied and either one is cruel and painful for the sheep. The other reason the industry is cruel is where the sheep end up when their wool bearing days are finished. They are often sold as export livestock and (literally) throw into ships with no food or water where they are trampled by each other and eventually end up in countries where they are slaughtered for meat. So life for a sheep is sad and painful and that's why it's not cool to wear wool. Also, there is no way Pink is wearing Uggs, there are lots of companies that make Ugg-style boots without using wool, hide or fur, I'm sure she's wearing fakes.
31Hell Yeah, Pink!!! Woot Woot!!!
32I really didnt want to comment on this because it will go on for years but i had to say this. there is a huge difference between wearing fur and eating meat. 1) humans have hunting and trapping animals for food and fur since the beginning of time, the difference between then and now is that the animal was treated with more respect and every inch of the animal was used for fur or for meat. the animal was never kept or abused. 2) every vegetarian i know has to get protein from different sources such as protein shakes or bars. i have seen people who went vegetarian and suffered anemia, migraines and their hair started falling out 3)on the flip side, fur is not a necessity. with advancements that have been made in fashion, there is just not a need for it. most fur is not made to keep someone warm, its made for looks. my thing is this, yes i eat meat but i try to buy organic with free range farms, no i dont wear fur because i really dont see the point to it.
33Thank you Serena and Grl in the world for trying to enlighten me. I've been to the PETA website and I think a lot of what they're doing is very noble. And I think it's great that you stand by your convictions. But I also stand by mine. I hope that doesn't mean we can't be friends?
34*Fur is the new fat? What about that awful outfit she has on - it's not exactly slimming.*
Well, I don't think her point was to have someone look slim...and I doubt she worried about what SHE wore that day! I think her point was to hit where it hurts in an industry that is so obsessed with how they look. Hollywood does not want to look "fat"...hell, they don't even want to look normal...they want to look perfect! How nice of those animals to die unneccesarily so hollywood can look good on a red carpet! It's disgusting and wrong in this day an age to kill animals for fur, especially when there are so many alternatives to get that same look. Killing for survival is one thing...killing animals for fashion is wrong.

36I like Pink, She's participating in a good cause. I am not an animal rights activist but I most certainly do not endorse the way animals are treated before they are killed for their fur.
37go pink! i love her confidence its so liberating!
38ummm, wool? You don't skin a sheep, you shave them.
39I used to support PeTA's anti cruielty and anti-fur efforts. I still do mostly, except chinchillas are disgusting, nasty rodents. I'm not against chinchillas any more. Just kill them humanely. I think it's hypocritical to oppose the killing of an animal that I would call Terminix for any day. Ruck fodents.

40Love Pink-do not necessarily agree with her comments-although I personally would not wear fur-I humbly believe to each his own.
41Did she shrink after she put her clothes on??
