OK, that bit on Dakota Fanning made me literally sick to my stomach. That is one movie I NEVER want to see. What on earth is sacred anymore when they're making a 12 year old film a rape scene, appear nude (or nearly nude) on film & suffer other forms of child abuse????? That's HORRIFIC. Anyone who thinks that an Oscar warrants putting that out there is sadistic, imho. And, to say that it's all okay because the character finds solace in the music of Elvis Presley is just wrong.

Whomever would want to see this as entertainment probably already has child abuse tendencies......I can't see why any moral or healthy person would want to watch that.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, too. Jodie Foster was around 12 or 13 when she was in Taxi Driver (one of my all-time favourite films) and she actually received an Oscar nomination for her role. Playing a young prostitute, undoing her top, trying to take off Robert DeNiro's pants (no nudity, though), and being told by Harvey Keitel, "b*tch, be cool!" is over the top even by today's standards.

There was a big to-do about Nicole Kidman's movie Birth, about how she thinks her dead husband has been reincarnated as a young boy, and all the sexual over-tones (like how they took a bath together). So a violent all-out rape is sure to trigger some strong feelings...but even so, if Dakota's performance is Oscar-worthy, she just might get a nod like Jodie Foster did. I suppose it all has to do with how the audience perceives the whole thing; some will find it completely tasteless and inappropriate, others might look at it as superior acting despite her age. Very hard to say, isn't it?
