Things are looking pretty good for Martin Scorsese at the Academy Awards this year. Despite directing classics like Taxi Driver and Goodfellas, Martin has yet to win an Oscar. Over the weekend, however, Martin was chosen as filmmaker of the year at the Directors Guild Awards for The Departed. The DGA's are a very good indicator of who will win the Oscar for best director and many believe that Scorsese is long overdue for his win. Martin was very modest during his acceptance speech, saying that he didn't even know the film was doing well until the studio called with the box office numbers. Its turned out to be his best commercial hit to date.
Other winners were Richard Shepard for the pilot of Ugly Betty and John Cassar for 24. Many celebs like Jennifer and America came out to support the men and women who make it all happen. 10Leelee Sobieski was in the Wicker Man last year, a lot of you may have not known that because no one in America saw that movie but me. Fun fact: Jason Ritter and James Franco also make an appearance as well!
