Matt Damon is still in London with his favorite Pats hat (holla!), which kept his head warm out at Nobu last night. On his way in, he gave his dining buddy a big embrace and he also stopped to pose with one of the paparazzi pestering him as he went into the restaurant. While Matt is handing out hugs in London, his mom is talking about her new book on the effect of violence in the media on kids. Matt's no stranger to violent movies, but his mom's work has taught and changed him, too. He said:
- On learning from his mom: "I've always made my decision about what movies to make with an eye toward these issues ... I've grown up knowing about all this, after all. As a high school kid, I'd come home to find my mom in the living room watching TV cartoons, counting acts of violence, and I would watch with her, to see what she was looking for. . . . I accept and agree with what she says - that it desensitizes kids, that there could be blowback from it."
- On why it made him not allow his likeness in Bourne video games: "I lobbied hard [with the video producers] to not make a first-person shooter game but to make it more like Myst, which was a great interesting puzzle you tried to solve - you know, to play with his amnesia or his memory ... They weren't interested. They made the video anyway, without my likeness...I'd like to think that I at least made them more aware of the issues. That's step one. Step two is changing behavior. I learned that from my mom, too."
Not only is it great to hear that he's willing to stand by his convictions, but that he learned it from his mom is even more endearing. It doesn't even need to be said that Damon can do no wrong — because instead everything he does just makes him better.

4a friend of mine has his mom as a professor (or has at least met her while in the program) and said that she is a pretty impressive lady
5so acting in a violent movie is ok but having your likeness in a violent video game isn't?
I am confused.
6Right, sure Bri, the hat... I gotcha... At least he's not pulling the denim on denim look today...
7Ohmygosh .... I grew up watching cartoons. Never once did I want to strap rockets on my back via wile. e. coyote or try to shoot an elmer fudd with the gun in his hand. I have heard of these nuts before, and have read where this woman is very far left. So, no surprises there. Good point by poster above; Matt makes movies with violence ~ what does his mom say about that?
8Love him.
9LOVE HIM
10I heart him. But he should definitely lose that hat. I'm also a little confused as to why he'd make the movie but disagree with the video game. But I do like that he's not willing to be part of a first person shooting game. I do think they have an effect on people.
11Love him!
12I played Myst too.
13Movies and Video games are apparently quite different. You'll see a movie in its entirety a hand full of times if you really really like it but if a video game is successful that means it has players completely absorbed and playing or thinking about it constantly. That could really desensitize a person to the violence.
14he's just such a nice guy!
15but take the hat off please!
First off, I miss seeing mama Damon with hot son Matt Damon and his babies, then about the violence I can see how and why mama Damon didn't allow Mathew to watch and I can also see his point about movies with violence verses video games, its easy: video games are aimed more towards the younger audience, kids, where as the movies are for "big kids" like us! Love you Matt and mommy Damon!
