As a huge Beatles fan I'd like to seem them hold on to the title forever, but I'm sure someone will eventually pass them. It might be Mariah, it might not. I do think it'd be interesting to see how the numbers break down in relation to population growth, the economy, and technological advancements (ie digital downloads).

I actually think that she does deserve it. She has written all of her music and lyrics (for the most part) since she came out. She just has a knack for writing popular music. Do I love that she is more hootch than she used to be? no. But she is very talented and I do think she has worked for everything she has. That being said, she is not the Beatles, but no one will ever be the Beatles.

She was brillant from 1990-1997. Then she got divorced and totally changed! She used to stick to pop songs and ballads. After her divorce, she went all hip hop/r&b and went for the bimbo look!

I love hip hop and r&b but MC should have stuck to the ballads. She really can't sing as good as she used to be able to anymore. She needs to retire!

I think Mariah will easily surpass their record! If she does become more of a diva oh well, she actually has talent, writes her own music, makes money from album sales not Umbrella lines, clothing lines, or any of the other crap celebs plug in order to pad their pockets. Her frangrance is her FIRST product in her entire career. I think that's awesome and she deserves whatever sucess comes her way.

Madonna I can see getting #1 she had so many memorable hits. I can't even name one hit from Mariah so I don't get it. And her latest is just horrible.

Well I guess MC is better in that she hasn't claimed to bigger than Jesus-not yet anyway-lol! Between her skankiness and the Beatles flying 'high' with "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" the burning question: who really is deserving?? I think MC has an amazing voice and her hits are so catchy that even her biggest haters can't help but hum to the beat! So I think MC will surpass Sir Paul and the boys(what with that gold digger Heather Mills causing bad press)...yeah....who knows maybe MC will be 'knighted' too, we can all call her "Ma'am" LOL!

Eh, I have to say no only because it's The Beatles and I frankly don't want to see just anyone surpass them, but with the music industry now a days, I don't think they would be surpassed by someone I consider truly worthy anyway because the modern music I like doesn't get mainstream attention.

I didn't even know who the beatles were until I was high school, but I feel like I've been listening to Mariah's music almost all my life. Even though her style & voice have changed as she's gotten older, she's still an amazing artist. Plus, if her next three songs are great, then people will buy them, it doesn't matter if she's deserving or not, it just matters what kind of hits she's going to produce.

It's great that a woman will be the one to break that record. I like that it's her because she writes her own music and doesn't leave up to others to do all the work for her. Having said that, I don't particularly enjoy the music I've heard so far from this new album, but I'm still happy for her.

I am sick and tired of hearing "the old Mariah" versus "the new Mariah" and calling her a hooch and whatever. Get over it. People are so materialistic when it comes to true talent. I must admit, I have succumb to the idea pop star attributes. How pretty they are, what they look like, and how they dress. It's a part of nature. But to have what they portray themselves to be in the public eye versus their true talent is superficial.

Hell to the no. I can't STAND this woman's screeching! People talk about Brit being over rated, Mooriah is the one that's over rated! She's not funny, dresses like a 12 year old and (in my opinion) can't sing to save her life. I'm not a critic though, which is probably why the ones I like on American Idol get voted off and the ones that are awful win (Except for Carrie Underwood at least).
