Oscar winner Charlton Heston died tonight at his home in Beverly Hills at the age of 84. No cause of death was mentioned but his family released a statement saying:

"To his loving friends, colleagues and fans, we appreciate your heartfelt prayers and support.... Charlton Heston was seen by the world as larger than life... No one could ask for a fuller life than his. No man could have given more to his family, to his profession, and to his country... In his own words, 'I have lived such a wonderful life. I've lived enough for two people."

While I didn't agree with his politics and views, RIP nonetheless.
1What a wonderful legacy this amazing actor leaves behind. My heart goes out to his family and friends...There's one story about Charles Heston I remember that Matt Damon has told several times when explaining how odd it was to become famous so quickly. He tells a story of being at some awards show, unable to wrap the fact that he is seeing so many famous people and then going to use the men's room and seeing Moses right next to him
RIP,
VSug
2oops..I meant to say 'wrap the idea around his brain'..
3Wow that's so sad...I just watched The Ten Commandments a couple weeks ago. My thoughts go to his family and friends.
4awww RIP Charlton Heston!!
5aww wow! how sad.
RIP Charlton
6that is so sad..Rest in peace..
7His name isn't Charles.
8RIP.
9RIP Charton Heston
10a true icon.
a true screen legend.
a true man's man.
There aren't many of any of those 3 left in the world unfortunately.
11RIP.
12i loved him so much in EL CID especially .....Rest in peace
13I know I'm going to sound awful, but I think he was way over due. I say that because he was becoming more known for his political views and outbursts and his association with the NRA than his acting. As the years go on less and less people watch classic films, which is sad... some people have no clue how talented he was... they just view him as a loud mouthed conservative... and well, can't really blame them. It is sad though... what he became and the fact that he's passed... he's a legend for sure.
14Aw, very sad. RIP. CH.
15R.I.P. great actor, great man.all my thoughts are with family
16Pro-life, advisory board of AIM, association with Gordon Lee Baum, "From my cold dead hands," NRA darling... the list (that far overshadows his acting career, in my mind) goes on.
I'm glad he's no longer able to perpetuate his horrible political rhetoric.
17No matter what your opinion of his political views, lets try to keep it respectful.
18RIP, Charlton Heston!
19I agree with coffeeteawrecks.
Seeing him in Bowling for Columbine just totally lowered my opinion of him.
Just because someone is dead doesn't mean we can't be honest about his legacy.
20completely disagreed with his politics, but i can't deny his talent and i give condolences to his loved ones. RIP.
21R.I.P
22R.I.P. C.H.
23From what I heard Michael Moore did lot of editing in his documentaries including in his interview with Charlton Heston in Bowling for Columbine.
24I also don't forget that he stood for civil rights.
I also don't forget that Charlton Heston stood for civil rights in 50's (Which is very early on)
Funny I just saw a movie with him on TV last thursday which was ''The Biggest Show on Earth''.
25Ahem ''Greatest show on earth''
R.I.P
26May he rest in peace. He was a fine actor and had a reputation for generosity and kindness. Yes, Juicylemon, Mr. Heston marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. pn many occasions and was on standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial for the "I have a dream" speech. He was a true to his convictions his entire life, that's an enviable epitaph.
27he lived a long good life.
28i'll never forget how he went to Columbine right after the school shootings to bully the friends & family of the victims, that was just so classy and humane of him.
29He was an amazing man...R.I.P.
30I was sort of ambushed into Bowling for Columbine. While I didn't agree with his later political views (and views on guns), he was a great actor and quite a humanitarian. He stood up for Civil Rights in the US and accompanied MLK Jr. on many of his speeches far before it was considered 'fashionable' to do so. My sympathies to his family and friends.
31Anyone who believes what they see in a Michael Moore movie oughta get their head checked.
Here's a great article debunking nearly the entire movie: http://mooreexposed.com/bfc.html
If you don't agree with Heston's politics, thats fine, but you should research some facts before you come to that conclusion.
32R.I.P
33RIP. You were an incredible actor.
34Soylent Green is made of PEOPLE!!!!!
RIP Mr Heston, I hope those damn dirty apes leave you alone.
35He wasn't all bad, politics-wise - he was a HUGE civil rights campaigner in the 50s. Best performance: Cardinal Richlieu in the Musketeers films, but he gave some GREAT hammy performances too!
36RIP, Mr. Charlton Heston. May God give strenght and comfort to those loved ones he left behind. One of the world's greatest actors!!
37RIP.
38Great Actor!! Love him and always will! He will always stay alive through his films.
39Beautiful person in many aspects. Beautiful in spirit. Thank you
40I hope he died peacefully, and with no pain.
41He leaves is with good movies. R.I.P
leaves us*
42"No matter what your opinion of his political views, lets try to keep it respectful."
43Thank you, well said!
May he RIP, but like others have said, I don't agree with his politics at all. It really saddens me when someone with so much influence makes ignorant choices. However, I can always respect anyone for expressing their opinion honestly and unapologetically. And we all know he sure did.
44I cried my eyes out when i heard the news, not only was he an amazing actor, he was passionate about life, married to the same woman for 64 years, and steadfast on his political stance, i respected and agreed with most of his views.
He was a WW2 veteran, he was at Martin Luther Kings side during the civil rights march, he opposed the vietnam war, changed from being a democrat to republican in the 80s and stood behind reagan, and both Bush's presidencies. He was clearly an outspoken person about civil rights, and the right to bear arms, and the pro life movement. one of my favorite quotes of his is :"Political correctness is tyranny with manners" to which i completely agree.
The reason i hate george clooney is because he once said that Charlton was afflicted with alzheimers and deserved it BECAUSE of his belonging to the NRA.
I will miss his grace, his gentleman ways and his talent for focusing attention on important issues.
45how is this sad? he had a full and rich life. it was his time to go. we all have to go sometime.
i loathed him in his later years because of his politics (ALL of which i disagreed with) but loved him in "planet of the apes" and "soylent green."
46definitely didn't agree with his politics but may he rest in peace. he was a legend on the screen
47coffeeteawrecks gotta say I disagree with you on every issue. Like Heston I started as a Democrat and became a Republican when the party became hostage to the pro-abortion wing of the party. I met him in a retaurant and he was gracious, kind, interested in me and my kids without having any idea that I shared his ideology. He had class and dignity totally unlike Clooney and certainly Moore. His death has motivated me to do three things: boycott Clooney movies, join the NRA, and try to be as courageous as he was in standing up for what he believed was right even when it isn't popular. Even though Heston won't be around to espouse his views any longer, many of us who were inspired by his example will be. Hopefully my six kids will do the same and will teach their children likewise.
