Ashlee Simpson stopped by TRL today with a smile on her face and an important line of questioning to address. She was there to promote Bittersweet World, but of course the issue on everyone's mind was the pregnancy rumor. While Pete's denial was more concrete, Ashlee was pretty vague about the whole thing. Maybe she's toying with us, or maybe there is more to the story. She said:
"I just think it's an inappropriate question to ask any woman...For me, that's something that I didn't ever want to respond to, because I think it's an inappropriate question...Some things, you want to keep personal, and I think that when people deny [reports that they're pregnant], it's probably because it's something they want to keep personal."
While she totally has a point, it still seems a leeeeetle bit odd that she won't respond with a simple no. I suppose only time will tell, but until then — has this settled it? Do you think she's not pregnant for sure?
UPDATE — People is now reporting that Ashlee is pregnant and planning to get married next month at a friend's house in La Jolla.

It is common knowledge that when you are in the early stages of pregnancy you are cautioned not to tell anyone until you are past the first trimester in case something goes wrong, so you can avoid the stress of telling everyone if you have a miscarriage. Why do we expect celebrities to tell us the second they find out they are pregnant if we wouldn't expect the same thing from a "real life" girlfriend?
19This is so typical of her. She's never been able to own up to anything: her nose job, the SNL debacle, the Orange Bowl mess. I'll she's ever done about the last two was brush it aside with a, "Well, now I have to work harder." She's incapable of being an adult about these things and that's why I don't like her anymore.

If speculation didn't start so quickly, long before there was any weight gain or an announcement, they wouldn't have to avoid the question. J-Lo avoided it and she was so obviously pregnant it was insane. No one gave her sh*t for it.

36Well, People reports what the publicist tells them and nothing more. This flashes back to when Jessica started to date John Mayer. Didn't it also pretty much go this way? Story to Us Weekly and People to get the cover and then "denied" it only to fuel rumors for the weeks to come only to admit it later.
Ashlee might really be pregnant, she might not be. Papa Joe is playing a game with the whole thing. Someone told us weekly she was pregnant. She also never flatly said she wasn't, so they can string along the media for a few more weeks/months with bump watches until they finally admit it. All this works just in time for her clothing line and cd. It's so obvious.

45I think it's just bizarre the way young Hollywood is operating lately as far as dating, cute portable dog, unplanned pregnancy, quick engagement/wedding, baby (...dog mysteriously disappears, separation and divorce). I don't think marriage is for everyone - parenthood either for that matter - but what a funky message to send kids and young fans out there, especially those without the financial means to raise a kid with or without partner or support staff. Or the personal trainer and nutritionist to get back into shape...
Or just the "attention" factor: need some PR and attention? Play coy about pregnancy, real or imagined. It's kind of sick.
