Basically a bunch of people get together and search for clues that are located all over the financial district, china town and north beach from a packet of hints. The clues are not that hard but definately takes time to solve. My group has never won but we always have a fantastic time pretending we are sleuths. Almost every year we have walked by this thing (picture above) I am not sure what it is but was curious if anyone knew?
