Madonna stuck with her favorite all black outfit, devices in hand on her way to the gym, but today is not just like any other day. The charitable pop star announced plans to build a multi-million-dollar girls' school in Malawi this year. Plus, David's adoption is being finalized tomorrow. Amidst all of this, Madonna took time out to chat about being a working mom and again in defense of Britney Spears. Here are some highlights:
- On Britney: "I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that she was never allowed to have a childhood. She didn't get to grow up and make mistakes privately and try things out and just be a kid and be innocent. She's been watched, judged and been under a microscope since she's been a teenager. It's hard to evolve that way."
- On her kids giving her a hard time for working so much: "'When are you coming home?' 'Why are you always working?' 'Why can't you just be like a normal mom?' I just remind them about all the things that they have, and that if I didn't do what I did they wouldn’t have those things."
- On her kids' thoughts on her fame: "They come to the rehearsals. But they're sort of over it. They like to skateboard around."
We think Madonna hit the nail on the head when it comes to Britney and despite being one of the biggest stars ever still keeps things down to earth with her family.

I love her music!

2Her kids give her a hard time for working so much because they would rather have their mom than all those "things" she reminds them they have.
3Love Madonna...but leave the Britney defense to PopSugar

;( O)
5It's really sad that she has to defend to her kids where she is. She needs to spend more time with them so they don't feel this way especially since she chose to adopt a little baby.
6I think its awesome she is extremely down to earth with her kids, and they should realize how lucky they are for that.
7how sad, im sure when madonna dies her kids will look back at all of the "things" they have and wish they could take it all back and have a few more minutes with just their mom. you would think madonna of all people would know that since she lost her mom at a young age. too bad.
8I think she is fabulous and I agree with a lot of things she says. She is down to eart considering who she is ( the most famous and controversial celeb of our time). The Brit thing is right on too.
9Doesn't she get all this press for being a diva? I'm sorry but I've never seen her as a "down to earth" person.
10Of course her kids would rather have her around than all the "things" they have! Oh Madonna....
But I still ♥ her
11Her kids' comments, and her response, sound like those of many non-famous workaholic families. Unfortunately, all parties involved usually end up regretting that the parent worked so much. The "stuff" doesn't mean as much as having a parent around (or if it does, that's a problem). Is anyone else starting to hum the "Cat in the Cradle" song, or is it just me?
12"I just remind them about all the things that they have, and that if I didn't do what I did they wouldn’t have those things."
She's pretty much saying that she's bought their love. I definitely think she can afford to not work for a few years or work less so that she can hang out with her kids. What kind of crap does she buy them anyway, rollercoasters?
13SlugGirl - YES!
14SlugGirl, I agree. It's "supposedly" the dilemma of the working mom.
15A working mom who reportedly has a fortume of more than a hundred millions. It's not like if her family would be starving and out of the street if she spend more time with her kids.
16oprah's already done that.
17what da hell kinda shoes she got on???
18Um, I'm pretty sure if she even 'retired' now, they'd still have those 'things'..just a guess.
19It's true. I'm sure her kids would rather have their Mother than those things. Madonna is teaching them to put Value in " Things". You can't have it all.
20wow she is looking very masculine these days! Look at the veins in her arms/hands! Wowee. She should maybe spend a little less time at the gym and a little more time with her kids...just a thought!
21im relieved she didnt throw brits mom under the bus like everyone else. i think lynne did the best she could!
22yawn.yawn.yawn.
23yeah i respect and love her from the 80s but sometimes i feel like she tried a tad too hard.
scary lookin!!!and...BORING!
24Why just a girl's school? Why is it ALWAYS a girl's school? I do understand that in many countries boys often have it easier than girls, but in the case of Malawi she DID adopt a male child. So obviously she was saving him from something. So why then drop millions to only educate the females?
25I totally agree with you SlugGirl! She has really gone out of her way to publicly and privately seem as though she is giving a stable environment to David, but any household with a mostly absent mother is unstable, no matter how much money they have.
Madonna is right. If she had not worked so hard her children would not have the things that they do. But at this point in her career, the money she has made is enough to finance her great grandchildren's lifestyle. So I don't buy that she has to continue to work and tour as much as she does to keep up the lifestyle she has.
26GOD.....I LOVE MADONNA!!!! What an amazing woman!
27madonna is so much in public..i often forget she has kids x.x
28i think she is a workaholic. she never stops doing stuff in public! she writes books, she sings, she travels she does this and that.. when is there time for her kids ?
Madonna ROCKS!
29they WONT go poor if she spends a few weeks with her kids..
30what is she thinking.. . so sad... she will probably regret it later..
She's a man!
31I think the "famous" thing is over rated. Her kids are very lucky and she spends a lot of time with them already. I work all the time to provide my kids with the best that I can and so does she. They should stop whining and be happy that they've got a good home and can pretty much afford to do anything they want.
32And another thing. We don't complain when non-famous people do the same things as the celebs. We just need to back out of their lives and let them be themselves. Maybe working is a way for her to help herself be who she wants to be. She wants to help the world and I think that is great.
33WOW, someone is standing up for Britney.
