Last night on American Idol, Simon declared David Archuleta the winner of the night by a knockout. Archuleta sang his heart out and it showed, but we're still hoping for a David Cook victory.
The judges were enthusiastic throughout the night with comments like "best performance so far," "flawless," "stunning," "phenomenal," and "that was hot baby!" The Clive Davis song choices were my favorite. The show ended with Archuleta singing "Imagine" (actually a prediction Molly made earlier). Cook tried something different and although it may have cost him the crown, he did get a wink from Simon — that and a really humbling, nice comment about what a great guy he is.
We all know it doesn't matter who wins at this point. They will both do something exciting from here and in five years, we will be remembering one of them, but the question is which one? 4David Cook has the potential to be very successful whether he wins or not.
Unfortunately for David Archuletta, I don't think his (potential) win will translate into record sales (as we've seen with past idol winners).
5I just don't think he sings the genre of music that his key voting demographic listens to.

Is is just me, or is this the most boring show on the face of the planet!! It lost its appeal 5 seasons ago...enough already!!!

12I like them both, but Archuleta is not ready for the kind of success that Cook is ready for. David Cook will require far less polish and also comes across far more sincere. I also like his style of music better. Unfortunately, the teenyboppers will vote for Archuleta, and I fear he will win. I felt that the same thing happened last year, with teen appeal winning over talent. Not that I have anything against teenagers (says the grumpy old lady- ha ha)
13Jeez, it's a singing competition, not a masculinity one. Who cares if Archuleta's a "wuss"? Last time I checked, that haircut David A's rocking doesn't exactly scream masculine, either. So who cares?
Also, does the title of "Idol" really mean anything anymore, since, uh, it seems like anyone from the show can get a record deal? Also, if I'm not mistaken, season 5's Elliott Yamin has outsold the runner-up and the winner from that season, with an independent label, no less. I could be wrong, but I know he definitely outsold McPhee. I kind of wish David Cook could do the same thing, because at least he'd have more control over what kinds of songs would end up on his album.
14David A. seams one step away from cracking under the pressure from his dad. I think winning will mess up that kid for good. He either won't be able to deal with success or won't be able to handle failure...lose lose for him if he wins. David will be the 2nd runner up who has the more successful career.
15no IDOLS have come out of AI just like no TOP MODELS have come out of ANTM.
BTW Steven Tyler is back in rehab. Shocker for me. I thought all the boys had been clean and sober for years.

19David A will probably win. He did a better job and David Cook chose the wrong songs. The second one wasn't a good choice and I've never heard of the last song. Like Simon says it's down to song choice. David A has no personality and looks like he's twelve. How many times did he use "gosh" last week? Lately, idol winners haven't sold too many records. 20selling idol. Look what happened to Ruben. I'm sure they'll both get record deals. Simon said that he thought Cook should win because he has struggled to make a living whereas David A is still supported by his parents. But that was before last night.
I hate David A. I voted my arse off for David Cook last night. So he better win!
21Archuletta was playing to win the battle (AI) - but Cook was playing to win the war (recording career). I think it's pretty obvious he wasn't aiming at getting the most votes. If he did, he'd sing something familiar. He's just too smart to do it; he wants to position himself as a credible artist and realizes that winning AI doesn't matter. His song choices were laying a foundation for his future album, that's the bottom line.
Archuletta is a nice kid with a fantastic voice. I just don't know what they will do with him. Sure, he has a fan base, but it's fickle. He isn't very contemporary. He isn't a songwriter (at least we haven't heard his material). His first album may sell ok, but a long term career? I highly doubt it.
22This is a singing competition... so David A should win. He sang better last night and he deserve to win this competition.

the guy who deserved it won. sure Archuleta has a pretty voice but he sings songs that appeal to my greatgrandmother. Cook is more contemporary. sure he has a doll-like face and he probably appeals to my 6 year old nieces and nephews.
i think the judges set up Archuleta big time. they all pointedly endorsed him, knowing that that would trigger fan rage. and it did. over 100 million votes came in, and Cook had 12 million more than Archuleta. how do you like them numbers.
