We've seen Cameron rockin' a few different hairstyles on the set of My Sister's Keeper, but yesterday she really wowed us with a bald cap. In the movie, Cameron's daughter is diagnosed with cancer, so we're thinking that her character shaved off her own hair to rally around her daughter — although this is a new twist on the story since it didn't happen in the book. We're pretty surprised that the film's execs asked Dakota Fanning to actually shave her head when she was originally signed on for the role, but it doesn't look like they held Cameron to the same standard.
More photos including Abigail Breslin, Sofia Vassilieva, and Jason Patric, so just read more.

Shudoo
Whoa!
1alien nation
shout out to mk
lovely smile btw
2They should've shaved her head, too. The bald cap makes her look like Beldar.
3Hi Justingirl!
Yum, yea she can't really rock the bald look.... she has a very cone
shaped head....
4OMG Greggie! Great minds think alike! FO SHO!!
5wow, that's crazy! Totally unfair that Dakota had to actually shave her head...I don't get it, why not just use the bald cap...?? Poor girl..Cameron looks bizzare!!!
6Oh wait, nevermind..I just realized that Dakota is not actually in the movie anymore..hahah.. I should get my facts straight before I post
7Whoa, is what I thought too sugar_bear!!
8Did Dakota really shave her head?
9
christina welcome back
miss you
10well...there are things that they would ask younger actors to do since they would be more willing to go the extra mile for the movie. i can only imagine that the cost for the makeup team to do the bald cap is quite high, so shaving a head would be better in terms of money.
11They really should've made Cam shave her head. This bald cap looks ridiculous on her... at least it's good to know her head isn't actually shaped that way.
12That did happen in the book...the daughter was self-conscious about going out in public without her hair, so the mother and the younger daughter both shaved their heads.
13I'm treading carefully back into the Pop world....
Got tired of the back biting.
But I missed you too.
14aww
im glad ur back
15Yes, I read the book and the mother and the other daughter shaved their heads. Dakota didn't want to shave her head so she quit the show. The girl with the shaved head is one of the daughters on Medium.
16Maybe they want to show the actual shaving of the daughters head - so it would have to be done in reality?
17Really...is that fair...make a child star (who is probably full of insecurities) shave her head, but not the almost 40 year old, $20 million per movie adult...RIGHT!?!
This would have been the perfect movie and production set to prove to me exactly WHY Cameron Diaz came demand such a hefty salary...So much for that...the money is STILL unproven!!!
18How would they have to have a scene showing the daughter's head being shaved when she loses it from her illness and treatment, not shaving it? It's more likely that Cameron would have a scene with the shaving and require an actual shaved head.
19Hey Greggie and Christina
welcome back!!!
20I think the thing is Cameron realistically can't afford to wait for her hair to re-grow to its normal length to make more movies, since that would seriously take months and months and months. Plus, in the book that was a flash-back to when the girls were younger so she'll only have the bald head for one scene I bet. It really makes zero sense to shave it. There'd also be continuity issues if they have to reshoot previous scenes or shoot ones with hair and she had to wear a wig because she'd shaved it off.
21Tell that to Natalie Portman and Demi Moore, annebreal. Just two examples of women who shaved their heads and rocked it... AND got rolls.
22A child can't realistically wait for her hair to grow out either, especially one as busy as Dakota Fanning. Cameron's had short hair before and it hasn't hurt her career. She could just get quality extentions if need be, she does it all the time.
Hi tia!!
23whatev I hate when movie execs think that we are actually going to BUY the bald look and not think its some costumey gimmick (Hello Battlestar Galactica and Laura Roslin)
24YES IT DID HAPPEN IN THE BOOK!! I'M READING IT RIGHT NOW. IT'S WHEN KATE DOESN'T WANT TO GO TO THE MALL, SO SARA SHAVES HER HEAD TO MAKE HER FEEL BETTER
25Yeah well, Demi and Natalie Portman didn't need to be bald for one scene. And plus at least Natalie's a better actress and doesn't need to rely on a signature look like Cameron might need to. If for some reason they go outside the book and the mom's bald the whole movie, I might agree...but for 5 minutes of screen time?
26Oh, and GI Jane was one of the last movies Demi did before disappearing for a while...and still hasn't set the world on fire that much since except reemerging with a seriously hot bod.
27Regardless of how long, it's ridiculous that they'd use a bald cap for one and not the other.
28Yeah, I agree annebreal, it's not worth it for Cameron to shave her head for like 5 mins of screen time. However, she does look alien!
29I agree, Greggie. It's FAR easier for an adult to make a drastic change and still find work, then it is for a child actor who needs keep a certain look.
Besides...it's not like Cameron is hurting for coins here.
30I'm assuming it's because the daughter spends more time in the movie bald...if not, it does seem a little unfair, but it'll give the girl a "serious actress" edge. Personally, I think this movie is going to blow either way, and not at all stand up to the book, but shaving Cammie's head seems pretty stupid no matter which way you look at it.
31How would they have to have a scene showing the daughter's head being shaved when she loses it from her illness and treatment, not shaving it? It's more likely that Cameron would have a scene with the shaving and require an actual shaved head.
When my mom's hair started falling out from treatment, she shaved it off because it was better than having clumps fall out. Maybe that's why??
32the solidarity thing is very touching.
33wow
34i really would have loved to see the fanning sisters in these roles.
35unfair for them to want dakota to shave her head but not cameron.
I think its funny how every one is taking sides on the hair shaving thing. I'm sure the producers had good reasons for the choices that were made. When the movie is finished you won't be able to tell who shaved and who is wearing a cap. BTW, I think Cameron is the kind of girl who would shave her head if they wanted her to. She is always up for doing whatever a role takes. She might have already booked other work that requires a full head of hair, which, I believe is the reason Dakota backed out.
36Just read on another site that Cameron did indeed actually shave her head.

37Really? That's surprising, since I think that it would actually be more practical for Cameron to wear a bald cap, simply because she spends the rest of the movie with hair, while Sofia's bald for the whole thing. It looks like a cap to me (either that or she has a big head), but I'd need a picture from off the set to safely say for sure.
38Totally a cap - if the conehead didn't give it away (lol at beldar comments), the seam in the front will. Photos on some other sites look 'shopped to add some stubble/shadow. In the end, good lighting and post-production will make it believable enough. Effects/prosthetics/makeup usually look like garbage in real life. Just glad it's not my job to trim the cone off her head during editing....
39she kind of looks like Becks in the main pic.
40
jgasia!!!
41I don't believe for a second that she really shaved it, and I also don't think people can't tell the difference.
42Yah, I read somewhere that she did shave it and then they updated it with she was just messing with the reporters and she really didn't - If i was given the shot to do that, I totally would for art (money). Your hair would be so healthy when it grew back out- look at Natalie Portman...and Britney.
43If anyone's interested, there's an organization called St Baldricks that raises money for children with cancer. People are sponsored to shave their heads, and the shaving is generally done as a big event. It normally happens around St Patrick's Day but some areas have shaving parties throughout the year.
Rather than have the post tagged with a link, just google "St Baldrick's."
44Great point CaterpillarGirl.. the Laura Roslin look is so ridiculous!!
I have read this book and hate the casting of Cameron.. she is more of a bubbly, cooky funny girl!!
45well how come Dakota Fanning couldnt wear a cap?
46This does happen in the book. There is a scene where Kate (the one with cancer) is losing her hair so the mother, Sara, cuts off all of her hair. Then the younger sister, Anna, does the same. It's told from Sara's point of view. She says they then go to the mall as "three beautiful girls."
It just happens in passing as a flashback, but is most definitely in the novel.
47thought i would let you all know this isn't a new twist on the book. the girls did in fact shave their heads after kate lost all her hair from chemo.
48BAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA SHE LOOKS LIKE A CONEHEAD WITHOUT HER CONE! I know she's portraying a person with cancer, and I am NOT laughing at that, but she is NOT a good person for "bald" LOL It is not becoming on her at ALL,
49She's not portraying a person who has cancer, she shaves her head off to make her daughter, who has cancer, feel better.
