After months of drama involving fights on the set, prejudice, spin-offs and who can remember what else, we were beginning to wonder if our beloved Grey's Anatomy was doomed. Luckily, last week a handful of the cast members agreed to new contracts with some huge paychecks including Ellen Pompeo scoring 200K per episode. Now, we love us some Grey's but can't get over how much TV stars are making these days. We want to know - do you think the Grey's cast is overpaid?

I love Grey's, but I really don't care how much they get paid.
1I think all celebs are overpaid. It's not like they go out and risk their lives each day to save others. They aren't teaching people anything except to want what we can't have and diet. Same goes for athletes. But, alas, this is the society we live in.
2LaLa - I agree, I am not knocking them for getting paid so much, I just wish teachers, firefighters, caregivers, etc. got some of the salaries I see going to celebrities. Sadly, that is not the way the cookie crumbles.
3Yes, completely agree with Lala and it was exactly what I was going to post. Although some do give back, Sandra Bullock has given a million dollars each to a couple charities if my mind serves me right. Even though they don't really deserve what they get at least some understand that and give back.
4Ditto to LaLaLaurie...sorry but no actor "deserves" to be paid what they are paid once it starts getting to those more ridiclous $ #'s.
5OVERPAID!! if they didn't give them so much money and free stuff they wouldn't be the stuck up, money hungry, rehab headed, twits they are!
6Um, isn't every actor on a hit TV show overpaid? Isn't that why people want to be actors? (I mean except for those that are in it because it's their "passion" and all)
7Kind of off topic...but I am excited to watch October Road after Grey's this week.
8well i agree. yes they get too much free stuff, and because of the show they get more money from being spokespeople/models whatever. but let's face it, the show is good and it has good ratings. they spend way too much time onset.
remember friends or the seinfeld money at the end of the series? all the drama about who is supporting and the money woes? i just fear that with all the public knowledge of negotiations, salary earnings, and friction that it will affect the show's credibility and onscreen chemistry. everytime i see burke with derek, george or izzie all i think about is the comment.
9ellen pompeo making 200k an episode... geez... highly overpaid... i understand that she is the title character, but damn... there are other cast members that hold more clought on the show than her...
10If thes show is getting enough audience, then who cares?
11By the end of "Friends", how much were they making per episode... puf! But the show was getting enough audience to afford it
12i also think they are overpaid but then you look at what the producers and the studios make compared to the actors (who are the ones who make the show successful) then you would see why they make so much, the sad thing is that the writers are the ones who make the least and they are as integral to the show as the actors. the pay system is quite ass backwards
13TEAM FLUTTER!!!!!
for writter doesnt it depends on the terms of the contract - flutterpie?
14200K per episode is just ridiculous! I really never understood why celebrities are paid so much money. Yeah, they work hard, but so do us normal, everyday folk! It's truly a crazy world. But I do appreciate when celebs give back.
15I think they were all making a million dollars per episode during the last few season of friends, Deba! Now that's a lot of money, haha!
16Yep.... My mind its too small to think in one million dollar in my back account
17bank.. sorry
18Yea, they are overpaid. Especially since this season has been more like "Passions" than Grey's.
19They are overpaid, however, the audience supports this kind of salaries... is the show sucks no money, end of the story.
20these
21Woops, I hit enter too early!
I meant to elaborate on the previous post by saying that these tv shows make SO MUCH MONEY. Do you know how much ad space costs during that show? Think of how many commericals you see, and they are all paying vast amounts of cash during that time. That $$ shouldn't go all to the executives!
The reason that people tune in, and get exposed to those ads, are because of the actors. They are the product, and they should benefit when their comodity is bought.
22Ummm... I like to get rewarded when Im doing a good work where I work... but yep its definitely something really good if they give back to society
23look the show is a hit and they have won awards already to prove it! compared to friends...wasn't their cast making $$ in the millions?? and I like grey's a whole lot more than friends!
24i think grey's is more a hit in the beginning than friends was and to tell you the truth...haha as long as the show is still running i dont care what they get paid
25Actually 200K an episode is nothing when Sarah Michelle Gellar made 750K an episode for the last two seasons of Buffy. I remember the controversy that irrupted when it was discovered Keri Russell(Felicity) was only paid 20K an episode! People were shocked that she was paid so little.
It's easy to "celebs are overpaid" when there are many, many regular jobs where people make as much as celebrities(my mom is a banker and she's dealt with some crazy rich people you wouldn't even suspect make that kind of money, and I know a 28 yr old who makes 75K a year working for the Government).
26Awwww I love Felicity... sucks for Keri
27I'm about tired of them whining about their salary...seriously, YOU ARE DOING WHAT YOU LOVE PEOPLE! Remember that, it took some of them years to get recognition and now they're acting kind of spoiled about it. ::That is if all of the gossip I am reading about them is true
::
28Man, I'd love to make 20k/ LESS than an hour!
29I love this show and everyone in it, but no one needs to make that kind of money... come on, there are starving people in virginia!
30I think they should be paid a fair percentage of the total the corporation makes for having the show on tv. I think some of you are forgetting how profitable the show is, and how much money is generated for them doing their job so well.
After all, people tune in to see these people. These people are why the money is spent, and they should get a good chunk of that.
31OVERPAID- just like the damn cast of Friends was. It's crazy they do this crap... Most people don't even make half that a year and they make it in an episode - that's just nuts.
32YUP, they are all morbidly overpaid!
Although if I were on the cast of Gray's, I'd sure I wouldn't think so.
33love the show..so i dont really care how much their paid as long as the show goes on!
34Yeah, they sure do get paid a ridiculous amount, especially since seasons for these tv shows are so much shorter than they used to be, not to mention ALL THE FRIGGIN RERUNS they play during each so-called "season".
35Yes, I am bitter. *hmph!!*
Of course they're overpaid, they're actors. But relative to their peers, probably not. I've heard they work really long hours on the Grey's set and they're doing good work, so sure, why not?
36hmm i don't really care how much they get paid as long as the show is still on cuz its my favorite show
37but wasn't the FRIENDS cast paid one million per episode?
so i don't think this is new, i mean if a show is a big hit then of course they want the actors to stay for as long as possible right? and i think they deserve a good salary no matter how much, because they make the show good as it is
I don't care. A job is a job however it pays but I do like the show!
38I just hope Ellen Pompeo isn't getting paid the most. She's the most annoying and whiniest character on that show.
39The whole Hollywood is overpaid.
40deba-with writers, yes it depends on the terms of contract and generally speaking studios like to keep a good thing going. but the contracts are generally shorter the an actors because shows cannot get stagnent
41TEAM FLUTTER!!!!!
Ellen Pompeo is overpaid while Chandra Wilson and Patrick Dempsey are underpaid.
