Britney Spears dined at Sur on Friday before her first sleepover with the boys on Saturday and Sunday short shorts. She didn't have any smiles, but hopefully she's not letting the failed day of custody talks with Kevin and impending trial date get her down. We'll see how that plays out, but Britney's life is a far cry from what it was a year ago. Rumor has it, however, one thing might bring us all a little déjà vu — the president of MTV said that he would be open to giving Britney another shot at this year's VMAs. He semi-joked, "Everyone deserves a second or third chance, right?" Yikes. While the sentiment is nice, thinking back on last year's "Gimme More" debacle is still painful to watch. If for some reason Britney decides to give the VMAs another go already — she is back in the studio after all — fingers crossed she'd be more prepared this time.

13I actually think that she looks pretty good here. It's a big improvement from what she normally wears. As for the VMAS, they would just use her for the ratings. The award show isn't nearly as good as it used to be.

19personally i would LOVE to see britney try again at the VMA's - i think that she's in such a different place this year than she was last year that you never know what's going to happen. things could totally turn around for her and i hope that they continue to get better.
20While I would love to see her on the VMA's again, I don't think the time is right for that yet. It takes much more than a year to come back from the place she was in last year, and her stability is fragile enough without adding that to it. I'm not saying she should be coddled, but I'd rather see them record and release another album for her before putting her in front of a live audience again.
And yeah, it's the 2nd OR 3rd chance for her. It's about the 5 millionth. I love Brit, I truly do, but she has had MANY MANY more chances than anyone else would have.
Look at Robert Downey Jr. He woke up in a little boys bed. He went to Jail. Or Rebecca Gayheart or Brandy, both had accidents in which someone was killed. All 3 careers are washed up (for the most part). They all still act or sing, but none are the performers they could have been. They weren't given the chances.
Then you look at Brit, Lilo, Nicole, Paris and the like. WOW, chance after chance after chance after chance after... Well you get the picture.
I would really like to know, why the extra chances for these people and not for others? It really doesn't make sense.

22man the MTV guy is not stupid, britney spears draws so much attention, viewers, and thus advertising revenues that she is always a good bet -- whether she sucks at her performance or not. that's the problem with the people around her they all look at her and see dollar bill signs
