This thread was not about racially infused comments. It was about money. We, here in this country, "worry" too much about the colour of our skin. My Father was a Peruvian indian the color of terracota and my mother was British and white as the driven snow. I have lived in England and the Continent as well as most of South America my Father was a diplomat and I never had someone asked me about my ethnicity until I came here to the US and became a citizen. What I'm saying today is, that it DOES not matter what color we are and we should not use the color of our skin to say:" The reason they did not ask Helle Berry to sell the picture of her child is because of her skin colour". That is absurd. Alisha, I'm not speaking for all Brazilian that would be inane. In Brazil as well as most of the world is not a big issue as it is here. Look how many people answer this. LOL

I don't think Brazilians necessarily have an issue with "ethnicity" (as everyone probably assumes to be ethnically Brazilian (no hypens necessary), but there are serious race relations going on in Brazil. It's the same serious "race" relations that go on in many countries where "darker" skin is a justifiable reason to place some one in a lower class. Americans in general are always curious about Ethnicity, especially the origins of someone who appears of mixed heritage.

To answer your question BlackVeveteen. The first census in Brazil was conducted in 1940. Since there was so many people that used the termilogy of "Pardo" as a miscellany. At that time the goverment adopted that word to describe people of mixture, as Alisha said. Since 1950 the word "Pardo" is used as a "catch all" if you will. But "Pardo" is an old fashioned word and the word "Moreno" is used more prevalent. From my experiences, Brazilians have other things to worry about as we know. The colour of their skin can not replace soccer/futebol or Carnaval, besides the sun takes care of the colour of the skin.
