On Friday, the rumor surfaced that Lauren Conrad doesn't have as much to do with the design process on her clothing line as she claims and that someone else has been doing the work LC takes credit for. Lauren was quick to respond saying,

"I've been involved in this entire process, every single step of the way. I have wanted to be a fashion designer since I was a little girl. I grew up designing and sewing dresses for my barbie dolls, and the Lauren Conrad Collection has been my dream come true."
LC talked to us about how much the line means to her. Plus, we've all seen her taking promoting the line very seriously and going to fashion school on The Hills, but rumors are rumors. So, do you believe Lauren Conrad about being involved with every step of her clothing line?

Jean Paul Gaultier
Versace
Maison Martin Margiela
She may have some say but I don't think she does the whole thing just something like final approval.
1that's sad if it's actually true, having someone smash her dreams and having to argue with the press to protect something she may have been working really hard on.
either way, i still see her as a mtv girl.
2i can assure you jenny, its not something she 'works really hard on'. her 'designs' are generic junior-line knits that she has paid an actual designer to throw together, and ship off the third world countries to construct.
3I'm fairly sure that everything about Lauren Conrad, including her career, is completely fake. And since she started her "fame" on a reality show about spoiled rich kids, I really have trouble believing she's ever done an honest day's work.
4Whether she worked on them or not, the designs are so generic and so boring it hurts.
5I think she's envolved in MOST of the process, she can't do everything herself, can she?!?
6Lauren designs all of hit herself. She has a directive creator who helps her pick out fabric and help run the business. All her clothes are made in the USA and not third world country. Hence, why her prices are higher.
7i think she has PART to do with the whole process
8if you love clothes and know how to use a sewing machine, then why didn't you make your own clothes instead of spending thousands on some designer labels?
i think she took the celebrity way with design school (take a few classes to learn a little of the industry) and that's about it. maybe she can do the rough sketches, but i don't think she goes any farther into the process of creativity then that.
9All I know is she's not a patch on that Russian teen with her own little fashion empire.
10That rumor is so stupid. Are people just trying to find a way to make her look bad? Did Speidi start that rumor? I believe Lauren.
11Nevermind all that...who is the dress (that she's wearing in this photo) designed by? I LOVE it...does anyone know?
12Fake.
13Fake.
14Fake.
15I think they are her designs. I've seen the collection and it doesn't really look like anything that any one couldn't do. I think if she wasn't on a reality show she may not have been able to undertake the enterprise, but I do believe that she does the work.
16with all the time she spends "working" or drinking coffee or whatever on her "reality show" i would be surprised that she knows how to sew, let alone have time to sew her own clothes.
17I think that she might have a little to do with the process, but I'm sure she doesn't create the designs by herself.
18maybe, maybe not...most likely, I won't be wearing her clothes
19I doubt it
20she probably takes a meeting with some designers and corporate people and color and fabric ideas are thrown along with a few items (tops, jackets). awhile later she probably sees swatches and drawings and says "ewwww" or "i likey!" and the final items are made.
in her defense, i think she is probably involved in every step that she knows about, but i doubt she knows what all is really involved.
21Lauren is fake and her so called clothing line is one of the most dullest clothing lines I've ever seen. That skank plays it on the safe side and she ends up looking like an idiot. Lim and Balenciaga could do her designs in their sleep and blindfolded.
22PUHLEASE!!!!! SHE WOULDNT KNOW A SEWING NEEDLE IF IT HIT HER IN THE HEAD!!!
.......someone should ask her a serious question to prove if she is really involved eg. " what type of stitching technique did you use for your lycra dresses?"....
I bet that would stump her!!!!hahah
23I really doubt that Lauren Conrad, who has admitted to being completely talentless, and 95% of the other celebrity designers out there, are involved in their designing process "every step of the way" as they all claim.
Even if they are there for every fitting and alteration, I really doubt that most of them know how to sketch, and they are likely receiving heavy suggestions from the professionals.
24Where's the "Who the hell cares?" option. LOL
As if she's considered a real designer now.
Lets get real.
And what makes it better is that you know she's probably having little 8 fingered Cambodian kids sewing the clothing in factories.
Like you werent thinking the same thing!!
25I doubt she could make it through a week on Project Runway, where they have to design, sketch, and produce an original item single handedly.
Look at her quote! Being "involved in this entire process, every single step of the way," still doesn't say that she designed or made a single item. Choosing between an assortment of swatches to say I want that one is still "involved".
26MagSugar--the dress LC is wearing is Dolce & Gabbana

27i can believe that she's involved to some extent seeing as how she went to FIDM and fashion is her life - but with all her other 'extracurricular activities' i can understand if she's not in on EVERY step of the process.
the real question is - does it really matter if she is or isn't? it's got her name on it, and if the line is crap then it's her reputation that goes down. if she hired someone to do the designing, then that's her choice - so i'm not sure what difference it makes anyway
28Thanks Javsmav...gotta say I like it better on LC than on the D&G model on the link. Probably something to do with her (LC's) great tan and black nails.
29lol, omg! yes, put her on project runway!
(i do like lauren but that would be funny)
30Of course she wouldn't last a week in Project Runway. Project Runway is for fresh innovative fashion designers. Lauren Conrad is boring and generic.
31i remembered from season 1 she going fashion school was she wanted make her own clothing line so yeah i do believe her.
32Going to design school for one year doesn't mean she can make any clothes. She might not have even passed her classes or did poorly, with all the tv and partying in her schedule. It would have looked really bad for tv if she did nothing and just hung around the beach and nightclubs for her tv show. They need to appear to be making some sort of an effort in life.
33She is cool.
34Maybe but I don't care. I don't know her and I don't even watch her show. Her clothing lines are basic stuff. It's not original at all. I could totally find something similar to her clothing lines less expensive around the corner.
35Yes, but she probably doesn't do the whole thing.
36who cares!
37she is annoying but I really like her show anyway
38Like all celebrity products, I never believe they are involved in everything. They just provide their rough idea of what they want and others execute it
39I just said maybe because who the hell really knows. Maybe she should work on lowering the prices so people will buy her things??
40What dumb designer will let LC take credit for her designs. This story is pretty stupid.
1. It's common sense, a designer will never let another designer take credit for his/her designs.
2. How many celebrities are involved in every step of the design process? Name 5 celebs and I will shut the hell up.
3. I saw The Hills Season Two DVD and actually saw the girl sketch, etc, so no I don't believe it.
4. She has talked abou being a designer all her life, it started in S1 of LB, she is serious about this.
5. Why is Lauren being picked on, can TMZ do a 30 second investigtion about Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Lopez, Puff Daddy, Heidi Montag, Perez Hilton, and Paris Hilton Too. Can these celebs actually sew?
6. Leave Lauren Alone.
41i don't think she designs alll by herself but she gives the idea and all that stuff i believe her
42i give her some credit for her effort and know she is not the next John Galliano or Marc Jacobs, but why give her so much grief...this is the reason she is famous because people argue about her. i wish the hills would disappear taking all of the cast with it.
43I believe that she is involved at a high level. I mean, this is what she goes to school for. Way back in the Laguna Beach days, fashion was always her thing. I'm sure decisions get made without her being there since she has a little more status but, either way, I believe she is very involved.
44If she really designed the clothes, then you would think she would take more of an interest in seeing it do well. But Kitson recently dropped her line because of poor sales, and LC could never find the time to come into the store to do a promotion. TMZ has the pics of her clothes at Kitson now, marked buy one, get one free.
Going to fashion school doesn't mean one becomes a designer. Do you realize how many fashion schools there are in the country and how many thousands of people attended them, who never had any career in fashion.
45magsugar, it is dolce and gabanna! it is a fabulous dress ;]
46as for lauren... i do not think she should be classified as a designer. i think she is like every other celebrity designer who has a real designer do all of the work, and then approve the design and slap their name on it. i think it is sad that people in the world have actually lost the sense of knowledge to know this. i am tired of her being referred to as a designer when her clothing is sadly generic and lacks any sense of creativity and individuality. i doubt she does all of the work herself or even has that much input.
Haha, that's what all the other celebrities who also do not design their lines reply !
47http://www.celebrities-fashion.com/FASHION-LINES/LAUREN-CONRAD-CLOTHING-...
I do think she's involve in the process but not in every single step for sure!
48I wouldnt call this a rumor since it is based on facts. Her line has been dropped from Kitson because she didnt promote it.
Even the way she defended herself, she didnt talk about what she does she just said that "she always wanted to blah blah blah barbies"
And its Creative Director, not "directive creator", and it sounds like that creative director is the one actually doing all the work.
I have heard from people who were actually in school with her (didnt she not graduate?) that she did really poorly in class and her teachers didnt even like her.
49I completely believe that she had less than nothing to do with "her line" of clothing. The girl is too busy doing....well....um....yea...what does she do anyway? oh yea, wasting air and space.
