This weekend, Shia LaBeouf disappointed us with his idiotic and scary car accident and arrest on suspicion of DUI. Most of you don't think he'll learn his lesson, but at least one witness account says that after being told to flee the scene, Shia knew he needed to stick around and deal with the consequences. In a oddly well-timed newly released interview with Details, Shia reveals how using drinking to bond with his father had already taught him about his own substance control issues. He said:

"We would drink together and smoke together . . . and it's just a bad deal. It's not something that is conducive to being a role model—no iconic actors that I know of have problems like that. And I don't know how to do it like a gentleman. I don't know how to have one drink."
Shia's unconventional upbringing always seems to have left him with some complexes — hence his ability to get arrested for just about anything — and, underneath his cute exterior, a little troubled.
Thankfully, Shia is currently recovering from surgery, and neither his passenger, Transformers 2 costar Isabel Lucas, nor the driver of the other car were badly injured. I sincerely hope that Shia does learn from his big mistake and somehow manages to deal with his own possible demons in the process.

oh shia
1wow - then maybe you shouldn't drink. period.
2give that a shot
Poor Shia. He shouldn't drink at all. I have a set limit of two drinks max. I am not much of a drinker anyway, I am not even the legal age yet, but when I go out, two drinks max. Its important to set those types of limits.
3I think he probably should just stop drinking until he can mature a bit more. Even then he might not be the kind of person to stop when he's had too much. I hope he figures it out soon before he ruins his life.
4Just so he knows...EVERY ICONIC ACTOR has some issues and usually it's especially with substance abuse (be it illicit drugs, prescription drugs, OTC drugs or alcohol). Sadly greatness is often born out of a tortured soul.
5I'm sure the others he injured are getting ready to sue.
6that picture is creepy.
7agreed Tia..I was thinking the same thing..
8i.e. jim morrison..tortured drugged out soul=lyrical genius
EXACTLY, tia.
I think it's sort of bad to say this, but would Shia be as interesting and get as much publicity if he didn't have that little "troubled bad boy" edge underneath his cutesy exterior?
9No one is perfect. I was just hoping he wouldnt fall into the stereotype of young hollywood actors. He can afford a driver, or better yet, just take a cab. The Paps may not even see you and if they do, you are in the good light, not the bad one.
10I still think hes an amazing actor and i really hope he pulls through this... luckily no one was seriously injured.. but im hoping he learnt his lesson... Cause i love him! lol
11Ps... the pic is amazing not creepy
I don't get his appeal. At least he knows he has a problem.
12I love you Shia, I know you got a few problems it's ok. You just got a work a little harder okay boo.
13He is young and unfortunately his childhood was not too normal. He'll grow up and I think this may send him on a better path. Like most young stars (ie Britney) it must be so overwhelming to go from nothing to fame so quickly.
I admit, I drove home once in high school drunk and it scared me to death the next day that I did it. Never did it again. Give him a break.
Oh, and he is super cute!
14Not knowing how to have one drink... That's the exact same thing I've heard from my father who has been spent the last few years recovering from alcoholism that he's had for 30 years. I really hope Shia can get the help he does need, because it's usually not as easy as well then don't drink or set a 2 or 3 limit with people who say they don't know how to have only one drink.
15cherry- You were lucky that you didn't hit anyone or hurt anyone. But he did both.
16It shows you what happens when parents try to become buddies. I knew more than one parent, personally, who either drank or drugged with their kids. Not cool.
17It shows you what happens when parents try to become buddies. I knew more than one parent, personally, who either drank or drugged with their kids. Not cool.
18I agree. I am so over drinking, but I have made my mistakes to, when I was younger. Seeing people battle alcoholism in my family, just makes me want to stop completely. It is so scary and destructive.
19I love the pic too...he is a cutie
20Hopefully he will stop drinking. If you can't stop at one then don't drink at all.
Both of my parents are alcoholics so to be on the safe side i do not drink at all. It's not worth it, i have seen what it has done and the lives that it can ruin.
21That picture is creepy, he’s troubled and I still think he’s hot. ( I’m so shallow)
22eh. if i'm out partying i have a hard time stopping after one drink too.. i just don't drive home. i guess i could stop if i wanted to but i know plenty of people that drink a lot and aren't necessarily alcoholics. well either way, i hope he gets it together.
23krrn - I agree. He's not the only one who doesn't stop after one drink. Most people don't when they're out partying with friends. The issue is that alcoholism runs in his family so he probably shouldn't drink at all, but if he does, he needs to not drive and hire himself a g-d driver!
24Well, drinking isn't for everyone. Lets hope he calms down.
25Shia needs to share what his known issue with the people he's hanging out with. If a friend of mine said "I can't have just one drink or I get stupid" then I would be sure to assist that friend in staying sober. If the people he was with that night weren't behind him, then they're no friends and he probably needs to find a better and more supportive entourage.
Now please don't misconstrue that to mean I think his friends are responsible. Only to a minor degree are they responsible, HE'S the one that got behind the wheel. BUT, no one thought to tell him not to drive? Some friends.
26what a little cutie...hope he gets his sh*t together b/c I'd hate to see the alcoholic, sloppy version of him after 10 rehab stints
27I like him. His shoulders look some what small in this pic. Weird..
28I hope Shia gets over whatever's the matter with him, everyone makes mistakes, right?
29Shia my love...stop drinking! get yourself some AA counseling. Alcoholism obviously runs in the family (as it does mine) so you might just need to NOT DRINK! I absolutely love this guy...he is talented and absolutely breathtaking to look at. I hope he learned his lesson and quits the drink!! I know all too much about alcoholism (thx to my dad and grandpa)....its going to take him admitting he has a problem and doing something about it. Too bad it had to happen as the result of an accident where people could have been killed...including himself.
30boo f*cking hoo...cry me a river kid.
31gorgeous! i'll have to pick this magazine up. he needs to just not drink at all especially knowing it runs in the family, but knowing from first hand experience, my sister was killed while drunk, and stuggled w/alcholism for years, it isn't always as easy as, just don't drink. quit honestly, i don't get the lure of alchohol, i always feel like butt the next day. good luck shia. hope you heal up quick.
32I heard the accident wasn't his fault and that the other driver ran a red light, is that true? if so he just got really lucky
33LAPD reported that they have strong evidence that the other driver was running a red light, so yes, he was not at fault.
34he was still driving drunk and maybe if he wasn't there would not have been an accident.
35great. another hollywood brat breaks the law and walks away.
36usatoday is reporting that the other driver did run a red light causing the crash, but maybe if he hadn't been drinking in the first place it wouldn't have happened.
37gee, i wonder how much it cost to find the other driver at fault?
38PLEASE grow up! lets blame our parents for our bullsh*t addictive habits! sorry, but drink-drive IS SELFISH. this guy was driving a block from my place, could see in person the condition of his car.
39every day i have to pray to not get hit my a selfish person in traffic.
sorry, but he is soooo lucky to make tons of money and again selfish enough to not respect other pp.
SHAME ON YOU!
vivi, it has been proven that alcoholism runs in families and can be inherited. I don't think anyone is blaming their parents, but Shia was stating that his dad doing what he did with him...drinking and smoking...wasn't a good thing. I don't think he was blaming his dad at all for his own actions. he admitted he doesn't know how to just have one drink. That is a definite sign of being out of control.
40Is this kid even old enough to drink? I don't really care for the LeBeouf all that much.
41HAHHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH
42Shia needs to go to AA or some type of Alcoholism class. He obviously knows he has a problem. Why not go and get educated and learn some tools to use to stop before it gets worse.
43It WAS a selfish act, I completely agree with that statement.
I don't think however anyone is blaming the parents, I just think it was more explanation about how he got to where he is.
That said, look at all the people whose parents are alcoholics and come out on the other side as adults without a single vice. It happens all the time. It depends on the individual and the choices THEY make for THEMSELVES. Period.
44Shia has been attending AA meetings with his dad for 12 years. He knows better.
He was NOT at fault for the accident.. that was made official by an announcement from the LA Sheriff's office.
The investigation revealed that Shia was making a LEGAL left turn when the driver of the other car drove through a solid red light and hit his truck broadside so hard it rolled it twice.
BUT he is STILL charged with misdemeanor DUI and will be arraigned in August.
He is not off the hook. Just not liable to lawsuits or any additional charges in conjecture with the DUI as he would have been had the accident been his fault.
45This is really sad. I hope he gets his act together. I think he'll be fine especially since acknowledging the problem is half the battle. Let's keep him our thoughts.
46well at least he's being honest..i'll have more than one drink with you shia!
47That's an awesome picture! He looks hot. Hope he gets better soon.
48First off, this is not a creepy picture..he looks nice. And secondly, for people who said 'just don't drink' if it's a problem...I thought people were more understanding of drinking problems now. He has a great chance of being an addict because of his fathers' own problems, and maybe he is. But didn't you learn anything from Joey on the Real World? People think anyone can control their drinking sooo easily, and it's just not the case sometimes. I can't say it all in a comment, but that pisses me off.
49Poor baby.
