As an unabashed Zooey Deschanel fan, I just love these pictures of her on the pages of the most recent issue of Lula Magazine. She's equal parts adorable, quirky and beautiful with a little bit of her trademark spirit-animal loving whimsy (yes, I know that was a character, but you just know she believes in her spirit turtle, too). I can't wait to see more of Zooey on Weeds, but sadly her next exciting role may be a little ways off. Zooey signed on to play Janis Joplin in an upcoming biopic about the singer, but the project has been temporarily delayed. Sad. Well, whenever it decides to come out, I'm looking forward to hearing more of Zooey's singing on the big screen and seeing a little bit of her dark side (she's gotta have one) come through, too.

23She was also in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Elf, and a lot of indie stuff. I totally love her and I'm super bummed that her Janis project got shelved. Between the two competing projects, she was by far the most interesting casting (I think Renee Zellweger got the part in the other one, and some of the rumored Janises were Pink and Brittany Murphy...). Darn.
24ok, she's also been in Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, she was one of the main characters -- and i think she suited it very well-- and i also remember her in weeds as the crazy girlfriend of Uncle Andy. As a matter of fact, she's been a crazy/quirky character in everything i've ever seen her in. i think she's adorable.
25OK...Zooey is one of my favorite actresses these days. She's gorgeous, talented and seems fairly clean.
She has starred in Bridge to Terabithia most recently and was Buddy the Elf's girlfriend in Elf. She has the most beautiful jazzy bluesy singing voice.
She has been in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Failure to Launch as well.
I hope to see lots more of her.
By the way...she seems to have no pupils....her eyes are so freaky looking they are beautiful!!!! She has a really nice speaking voice too...very lyrical and easy on the ears.
26I love her!!!!!! She really is a great actress but since she has done mostly indie stuff she is not as well known as she should be
27I LOVE her and Im a HUUUUUGE! Janis Joplin fan, but unfortunately I really dont see her as Janis..well,maybe?..no. I dont..Plus about 2-3 or more times a year, there is always someone that "signs on" to play Janis Joplin is a biopic that never happens. It's been going on for about 10 years it seems. First, it was Melissa Ethridge, then Sheryl Crow. Then Pink signed on(which might have actually worked), then dropped out which left the choices to Lindsay Lohan (grrrr..I would be soooo pissed if she got it. I cant satnd her and she's a prime example of someone who would not know Janis from a hole in the ground. Janis would be pissed to have her playing her role) and Scarlett Johannsen..which is just weird because Scarlett looks nothing and is not where built like Janis. And of course Britany Spears which would send me into a rage. Yet another one who could only dream of being in the same league as Janis and has no clue who she is. Where the director though ANY of those people would be a match for her is beyond me, especially physically. And then there's another movie about Janis that Renee Zellweger..How the hell does she look,sound anything like her? Ususally when people do movies about other people, they usually do a good job at finding an actor who at least has some resemblence and has a personality/style match with said person. NONE! of those actresses fits that mold. Zooey might actually be the closest one yet, besides Melissa E. This whole thing keeps popping up with a different girl every time. Though I think Mellisa Ethridge would totally kick @ss as Janis. She's got that rough voice and the abily to REALLY rock when she wants to. Hopefully this would actually happen though and it's not another "announcment" that gets me all excited (or pissed in the case of the teeny boppers playing her) and it's actually going to happen. But at the same time, Janis already gets a level of exploitation from people who have bought rights to use her image and people that wear Janis shirts and stuff that are so trendy now when they couldn't tell you what other songs she sings other than Piece of My Heart (which is good, but no where touches the other music she has done. Damn that woman could sing). I hope they dont turn her into just this drug addicted manic and really focus on who she really was, which was a really caring, loving, passionate person. But..Since its a movie about a star who did drugs and died as a result, Im sure that's what they will focus on ala The Doors/Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison movie.

dvdsky- I didnt know that LL was going to play Janis. I know that she was signed up to play Stevie Nicks. And now Kiki Dunst is going to play Debbie Harry. This is getting ridiculous
I would actually love to see Zooey play Janis even though she doesnt really look like her. I think she is one of the least pretentious actresses and would really research Janis's life. I feel the other "actresses" want to play her just to say they did
BTW Someone mentioned Zooey always doing a goth look. Im not really seeing it here. Is it because she has dark hair and fair skin you think she is being goth? I have known a few true goths in my life and they are NO WHERE CLOSE to looking or dressing like Zooey

32we share similar taste in music, and I totally agree that out of the choices so far, Pink would have been the best. Janis Joplin had a slightly masculine appeal, and so does Pink, and the raspy strong voice would of worked for Pink. Anyone else would absolutly be dubbed. LL of Britney would have made my skin crawl.Joss Stone would be a descent choice too, but it is so hard to play a real person. I wonder who would play PigPen.

37If you want to see Zooey's darker side, check out "Winter Passing". It's a very slow, slightly depressing movie, but one that you walk away from feeling like you've learned something about the beauty of life. And Zooey is fantastic in it, she plays a girl who's coping with a feeling of intense estrangement and disillusionment. Two thumbs up!
