Hilary hit up Glendale for a little shopping expedition the other day. While having a bank account like Hilary's would certainly be nice, there are other aspects of fame that are far less appealing. On the eve of her new album, Dignity's release, Hilary talked to Britain's Mail on Sunday about the ups and downs of become a woman while the whole world watches on. Here are highlights:
- On Growing Up: 'As I become more mature, my tastes and interests change. Like, so many people have watched me grow up, and I find it really weird when they say to me 'tell us about your new look.' I'm, like, what new look? It's just me growing and getting more confident about my style.''
- On Shopping: "I can't go more than about 72 hours without shopping, but I don't think I'm excessive."
- On The Britney/Christina Shock Appeal: 'Know what? That's not really my style,' she says forcefully. 'I'm going to work really hard to stay successful and appeal to as many different people as I can, but I know there's always going to be someone younger and cooler coming after me, just like I took over from the one before me. And if it doesn't work,' she shrugs, 'I guess I'm going to have to think harder and maybe try something else.'
- On Her Weight Loss: 'I did get skinny,' she concedes. 'I've felt that pressure like everyone else in my position has. When a paper comes out that says 'Duff Puff - she must have gained 15 pounds,' or something like that, how would any normal person react? It's so mean, but everyone keeps buying that stuff and talking about it, so it's not going to go away.'
While we worry about the pressures put on all of our favorite starlets, Hilary seems to have emerged with a level head on her tiny shoulders. Seems like someone still has her dignity all right.

3I'm so disappointed with Hilary's comments about weight, she works hard (so it looks) to be a good role model to young people, but then she goes and makes a comment like this about the pressure from the media to lose weight. Hilary I'm so disappointed in you!!
4caitlinp86, I'm agreeing with you. I think that she's come a long way. You can even see that (physically and stylewise) if you Googled her but that also comes with maturity. I give her many props and I hope that she does well in the future.
5she is not as skinny as she was. she looks like a regular ie healthy person. shes growing on me again.
6I think she is a super cool chick. She knows how to play the fame game without losing her head. I like it!
7She is actually being honest about her weight, admitting that there is pressure in society and for celebrities to be thin. I think that is refreshing. What makes her a good or bad role model depends on how she did it. If she resorted to making healthier choices and becoming active then yes she is a good role model because she channelled the societal pressures to a good cause, her health.
8I think she's great. She didn't try to sexify her image for anyone. And she's honest about her weight. She doesn't blab about her relationship with Joel. She's classy. She's not crazy and she's not a W#ore. Good JOB! I'm glad that NOT being a W#ore is something we're actively praising at this point. Like a regular characteristic: Pretty, classy, good singer, NOT a W#ore.... LMAO
9Stella I think she was just being honest about her weight issues... Obviously, she had issues with her weight, so why lie about it? Shes like every other girl.

21Role model or not, it's obnoxious to make a comment like, "I did get skinny." We see that. I'm annoyed at her complacent attitude toward the media pressure to be skinny -- at least throw a little condemnation in there so that young girls (yeah, I said it) don't think you're endorsing the image.
22I loved her as Lizzy Maguire and I think she has done a good job maturing in front of America (unlike others - LL).

Ace she is being HONEST. Would you rather have her lie? Then you all would be like she is such a liar blah blah blah. Who cares. I think its great what she said, at least all the other girls know now that she was in the same boat as them.

26Ace, I will have to disagree with you on that. I don't think she is being complacent. If some national magazine put a picture of me on its cover and called me "sharppuff" I would have a similar reaction. I think she is acknowledging that it was pretty painful, and I have to sympathize with that. I'm glad she is saying something about it, even though maybe it's past due.

29honestly i really like hilary too. i think she's remained a positive, good role model for all those adoring fans and she's more level-headed than most girls her age. yes, i was also disappointed when she lost all that weight due to the pressure, but she seems to have found a healthy balance, and isn't stick-skinny anymore
30Hilary has grown into such a beautiful young lady! I always love her outfits and think she should stick to the fashion world! As for her weight issue, I see nothing wrong with her answer! She was truthful and admitted to losing weight!
31I think she lost weight so the discussion about her wouldn't always be on how big she is. I mean, if you've done a film or a movie or a TV show and everybody keeps referring to your weight, you'd want to lose it just so they'd actually talk about what you've actually been working on.
That said, I do love that comment she made about knowing someone younger and cooler is always coming up, and that if it doesn't work out she'll try something else. At least she's knows what's what and isn't afraid of it.
