The Summer Olympics are officially underway, and one of our new favorite athletes, Michael Phelps, has already gotten things off to a fabulous start. The swimmer not only scored the gold medal in his first two events, but he also broke his own world record in the 400m IM on Sunday before helping team USA take first place in the nail-biting relay this morning. Most of you agree that he's not bad to look at, but we're thrilled to see that he's doing an awesome job of representing the USA, too. He's still got six more events to go in his quest to take home eight gold medals, and we can't wait to cheer him on over the next two weeks.
To see more of Michael Phelps and his fellow USA swimmers Cullen Jones, Jason Lezak, and Garrett Weber-Gale just read more

Yay!!!!!!!!
Keep kicking butt baby!!!! Love the Olympic games. I
have a feeling we are going to kick butt this Olympic season.
1Congrats to the US swimmers! But beware of us Brits, Becky Adlington beat Katie Hoff of the US in the 400m freestyle, and Jo Jackson getting bronze too! Go Britain!
Becky is Britain's first female Brit in 60 years to wn a gold medal in the pool!

3Loving the olympics!!! And michael phelps ... oh those abs....
4holy abs
5I'm in love!! No seriously, swimming is my favorite and Michael has been the man for years. Go USA!!
6That was the best race ever!
I loved how the French were so arrogant before and so heartbroken after – talk about your mouth writing checks that your butt (and abs apparently) can’t cash!
By the way – all of the men’s uniforms should be redesigned to look like Phelps’ after he pulled it down!
7That was exciting! YAY
8that was the most amazinf race ever ti was AWESOME and when he had his arms raised and was screaming and his obliques were showing i was like merciful heavens he is super sexy.
9I was jumping up and down in front of my TV! That was such an amazing race!!
10Le French should have learned from our mistake in the last Olympics. You talk smack before the relay, you're gonna get shut up.
11this is why i love the olympics!
12swimming and track and field are the only events worth watching at the olympics.
13I also only care for swimming and track and field...and yes, phelps' body when they won was too good for words.
14i watched both of the races that he won gold in - and it's something pretty impressive. if you think about it though, during the relay - he wasn't able to give his team a lead - but he was able to put them in good position to win. i think that he's quite an amazing swimmer - the one thing is that they always talk about him being the #1 competition in all of his individual races, and that's got to go to his head a bit right?
15
That race was AMAZING!!! I was sooo proud of them when they won. They BURNED the
French team!
16He's from my home town and got himself into a bit of trouble after the 2004 Olympics. The body is amazing, the face however...
17That race was amazing!
18B-E-S-T R-A-C-E E-V-E-R!!!!!!!!!
MY HEART WAS POUNDING...ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE.
19ilanac, phelps doesn't swim the 100m free as an individual, so he was not really expected to get a big lead in the first leg. he will look more dominant in his leg of the 200m free relay, b/c that distance is his strength. the only 100m race he swims individually is the butterfly.
it was pretty unbelievable to watch lezak's anchor leg. i have to agree that phelps' peeled back swimsuit added to the excitement... did anyone else wish we could have seen a crowd reaction shot of Pres Bush, the barbaras, and Bill Gates? They were seated right next to each other, it would have been cool to see them celebrate the victory, too.
20Since you're covering Olympic hotties, you should post something about Chilean tennis player Fernando González. He's like a darker Brad Pitt, haha.
No, seriously. Post about him already.
21OMG I love the Olympics. LOL
And the US is leading in the medal race, with something like 12 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze. Those may not be exact, but I know the 12 gold is.
USA USA USA USA USA!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, and who else caught that the women's fencing team took Gold, silver AND Bronze right out of the gate on Saturday!?!?!?! We rock!
And the French got exactly what they deserved after all their crap talk.
22HAPPINESS!!!!!!!!! I was jumping up and down too!! Congrats guys (and yeah, gotta love that they showed up any crap talking!)
23Swoon... His body is amazing... The swimming is good too!
24FANTASTIC RACE!!! Definitely the most exciting moment of the games thus far!!! GO USA!!!!!
25Horray!
26Dang, he would look good if he did something about that grill.
27YAY!!!! Phelps coverage. I Love, love, love the Olympics. I countdown to it every year and watch all I can.
Michael Phelps is amazing, seriously, the best athlete in the history of the world. He dominated his sport better than anyone ever has and not against inferior competition because swimmers are getting bette and better and Michael is breaking record after record. Plus who can resist a M block tattoo way past his hip.
28Is it really the place to talk about the US or any other country's Olympic results?
29I was sure that Phelp's 400 IM was the swim of this Olympics, but was proven so very wrong last night with the relay. I'll just say that I was amazed that the cops weren't called with all my eupohoric whooping, hollering, and floor pounding.
30I love Michael Phelps. If it weren't for him, or Gymnastics, I'd have NO interest in the Olympics.
31the man is a machine, I swear. he's soooo good.
32I watched this last night! IT WAS SOOOOO AWESOME!
33he has the best body ever lol and that race was incredible!
34Fuzzles, if they'd come after you, they'd have had to come after me too.
My kids are really upset with me because I won't let them change the channel. It's olympics all day every day at the house. LOL
35Damn, look at his abs in that one picture!!
36That race was phenomenal. It ranks up there with Keri's vault back in 96.
37Last night's relay race was AMAZING!!
38looove him! he's so talented! i hope he wins the 8 gold medals he needs:)
39The race was so awesome! Did anyone else see Michael Phelps reach over & shake hands with the French team after the national anthem was played. That was classy considering the trash talking the Frenchies did.
40Yeah, I did Trixie, and I couldn't help but hope that he took a shower afterwards. LOL
Serioulsy though, that whole thing with the French made me dislike the French people more than I already did.
41Yeah, I did Trixie, and I couldn't help but hope that he took a shower afterwards. LOL
Seriously though, that whole thing with the French made me dislike the French people more than I already did.
42OMG that boy's body is sick.
43It really was amazing to see, it would have been heart-breaking if they were out-touched by another team at the last second just like poor Katie Hoff had been minutes earlier. She missed the gold by a few hundredths of a second, poor kid.
And someone mentioned whether this was the appropriate place to comment, I'm not sure why it wouldn't be? I wish Sugar would devote a site just to pro/international sports, not just fitness (which I think is different) but until it does, I'll take anything I can get. Nothing wrong with rooting for your team and admiring people for their talent.
44AMEN Pickle! HEAR HEAR!
Pop, here's an idea, why don't you put together a TEMPORARY olympics page? Dedicated and devoted to everything olympics! I'd live there.
45we may disagree on celebs...but it's nice to see one subject we all (almost all) agree on. GO USA!
46Olympics is not all about Phelps. Moreover he wasnt even the star of that relay, it was the amazing Jason Lezak
I get more excited about people like Natalie Coughlin, Leisel Jones and Libby Trickett winning than him.
47joannn, you're right. This isn't the Michael Phelps olympics, HOWEVER, Michael just broke his OWN world record and IS on the road to break Spitz's record for the most medals in a single olympics. He is definitely the shining star this year.
BUT, we have Shawn Johnson, Nastia Lioukin, Natalie Coughlin, and many MANY more that are ALSO stars, and should receive as much coverage.
Michael is the name most people know though, because he's been covered the most leading up to the Olympics.
48I'm loving the Olympics. I've been watching them every chance I get. Love the swimming and gymnastics. Go USA!
49Exactly. It's supposed to be a celebrity blog where members are from different countries (I'm not american) and maybe there's some french people in there (that's for the person stating her dislike for french people).
