He did it!! After winning gold medal number seven of these Olympics by one hundredth of a second on Saturday, record-setting gold number eight seemed to come a little easier for Michael Phelps Sunday morning in Beijing. Joined by his teammates Jason Lezak, Brendan Hansen, and Aaron Peirsol, the USA claimed gold in the 4x100 medley relay, setting a world record as they did it. The headline of course belongs to Michael Phelps and his eight gold medals, surpassing the record set by Mark Spitz at the 1972 Munich Olympics. Mr. Phelps could probably use a little relaxation after this amazing week that has been so much fun to watch. Congratulations to Michael Phelps, and thank you for making it so very entertaining for all of us!

This is beyond exciting.
1I could just eat him up with a spoon and never get full! He is so great, you want it all just to keep going to see what else he can do.
2Pop,
I don't believe that Michael Phelphs ever worked out for years or dove into a pool for a race thinking about "entertaining us."
3oh wow, that is amazing!
4Yay for Michael Phelps!
5fuzzles, I don't think that was Pop meant. Michael Phelps certainly didn't work so hard for so long for his audience, but for himself. Pop is just commenting on how fun that's been to watch. She's not demeaning the seriousness of his efforts.
6He has been an amazing swimmer to watch, his speed is crazy!
7he's incredable, def a figure has to be written in the history!
8I heart him! He is so amazing and humble at the same time. He is a great representation for America. Congrats to him!
9I agree with sunnynight, I didn't take it as a negative comment, only that his success has been entertaining for us, not that he was doing this FOR our entertainment.
10His hometown is throwing him a "Phelpstival!!" He did a great job and deserves all of the rewards he will earm from this.
11Phenomenal achievement! He's a true great! But let's not forget to mention the rest of the US relay team (Aaron Peirsol, Jason Lezak etc...) they played there part too!
12bravo!!!
13
USA! USA!
14Love the 2008 Olympics, hot men who love to swim.. GO USA....
15Yay! I need to drive home to check out the craziness of the Phelpstival!
16I was jumping for joy when Teams USA won. This is definitely exciting!
17That dude's a beast.
18This is so exciting.
I have been glued to these Olympic Games in a way that I haven't been since my younger days!
Watching our athletes has BEEN AMAZING.especially Michael Phelps!
Goooooooooo USA!!
19Phenomenal Phelps!!! Wow, the greatest athlete ever!
20omg! I've been loving all of this olympic coverage! it's all been very exciting to watch. good for everyone who has won a medal.
21I was jumping for joy when Teams USA won.

22me too neonbee! I was jumping and yelling at them 'swim faster... faster' ... I'm sure I looked hilarious
But I was(am) sooo happy that they won!!!
GO TEAM USA!!!
I was at the Ravens game last night and they showed the race on the big screen after the game. It was rather cool cause alot of people stayed and they were chanting USA and cheering like crazy.
23Absolutely incredible.
24I have never jumped up and down screaming like I did last night when it became clear Team USA was going to win this. I visibly shook for a few moments afterwards, I was so excited, not only for Michael Phelps but his wonderful and talented team mates, Brendan Hansen, Jason Lezak and Aaron Peirsol. YAYYYYYYYYYYY TEAM USA!
25OK, I want ot know what's this guy's secret.
26I'm so happy 4 this guy
27Phelps is obviously awesome but how about Aaron Peirsol - MAJOR eye candy and he is always so chill when he swims. I feel a bit bad for the other USA swimmers who medaled big (Coughlin, Peirsol, Lochte,Lezak, Soni with the upset...) their wins were overshadowed and sort of lost in Phelpsmania. I wish NBC had showed more than just Phelps on the medal stand - you would have thought he singlehandedly won the race for the team (which maybe according to your perspective he did).
Way to go USA Swimming, they rocked the Cube.
28Felicityporter, I'm so glad that you like Aaron Peirsol! He's always been my favourite! There is no doubt that Michael's incredible, but the other swimmers deserve some more credit too! I'm saying all this and I'm not even American!
29Phelps is AWESOME!!!
Congrats to him and the USA Mens 4x100 Medley Relay Team!!!!
Keeping that title here in the States for another 4 years!!!!
30The man’s half fish! He has to be there's no other way he can be so fast.
31He's the main reason why I watch the Olympics and he didn't disappointed me.
Btw, his body is not proportional so that's his advantage.
32Congrats to Michael!!! Congrats to Aaron, Brendan and Jason also!! According to ESPN their gold medal win last night was the 1000th gold medal the USA has won in our history of the Olympics!! Perfect timing and very impressive!
33amazing!
34michael phelps is so incredibly talented and amazing. watching all the swimming events was so exciting and i love all the swimmers. they all made america very proud :]
35i think that NBC should be really happy about this since they were saying that the olympics were coming in with the highest ratings of the week across the board for the coverage.
36He's so amazing I literally want to have his babies. But seriously since Athens you could tell he was destined to be an awesome swimmer. You could see his family beaming with pride.
37P.S. All the swimmers were amazing I was so happy for Dara Torrez she's 41 and she kicked butt. I hope when I'm her age I have as much moxy and gumption as she does.
38go mp!
39Yep Dara Torrez is awesome too! And after what she did in the pre-lims the other night, she just become even more amazing to me!
Congrats to all of them!!!
And yes Aaron Perisol...HELLLO!!!!!
40Oh yeah... and I was also happy that Ryan Lochte won the gold as well. He deserve it.
41They're making a big deal out of Phelps because he just broke a record by winning 8 golds at one Olympics. The whole of Team USA deserves credit but I don't know if they would have done it without him (the team that came second broke the original world record as well) so I think he deserves a special mention.
42congrats!!! i love watching the Olympics when he's competing!
43i love this yrs olympics!!
44Michael Phelps yayayayaay
Yada, yada, yada. I found Aaron Piersol MUCH more excting!
45Those boys, those bodies, I saw a guy shirtless today and thought meh, then realized I've become so spoiled watching these swimmers! Sigh. I don't usually get all wrapped up in shirtless guys but oh my, lovely, every single one of them.
And oh yes, good job Michael on the incredible achievement! (Ha!)
46What a superhuman feat...i wish he was an aussie
47good job MP...and the new Speedo suits
48
there are other athletes in the olympics besides Phelps.
49The Olympics are so awesome this year! I hadn't watched them since I was a kid but admit to having Phelps fever. I also love gymnastics and equestrian.
