Did Roseanne's Tirade Against Brad and Angelina Go Too Far?

Last week Angelina Jolie announced that she didn't know who she was voting for yet, and Roseanne Barr took to her blog this weekend to respond to that and Jon Voight's recent endorsement of John McCain. Roseanne didn't hold anything back as she called the Jolie-Pitt kids "dunces" and unleashed a tirade on Brad and Angelina about how they should be supporting Barack Obama. Here is an excerpt:

jon voight your evil spawn angelina jolie and her vacuous hubby brad pitt make about forty million dollars a year in violent psychopathic movies and give away three of it to starving children trying to look as if they give a crap about humanity as they spit out more dunces that will consume more than their fair share and wreck the earth even more. (just sayin').

You can read her whole rant here, and tell us — did Roseanne go too far?

Probably best not to badmouth others, but I'm not surprised that Roseanne would do it. It did bring her some MUCH NEEDED publicity. I do find Brad and Angie to be so annoying, but hey...whatever...

Roseanne is ridiculous, has anyone read any of her rants? They are rarely coherent and full of vitriol. She needs to get a life, she can say what she wants about Brad & Angelina but it's taking it a little too far when she calls their kids "dunces."

Hm. I actually had never thought about how much $ those two make from violent movies...nor the % of it that they give away to that % in which they keep for themselves...

    Hm. Puzzled

give me a break, no one cares about roaseanne anymore unless she does something like this. Does she know them personally? Probably not, so therefore it's just someone's rantings about a couple that people just love to hate.

i laughed when I read this just because two people are "beautiful" and give some money to charity does not make them less of a target. she could have left out dunces but the restjust was hilarious.

Rosanne Barr is a crass, loud mouthed has-been. This recent tirade is rude and vulgar, just like she is.

i thought it was silly rant on her part. i mean she raised some points with her argument but it could've been said in a different manner. her tirade was a bit off.

Wow Roseanne, way to try and stay relevant. Guess what honey? You're not. I'm not defending Brad and Angie, God knows I can't stand either of them, but common. That was just uncalled for. What a media wh*re.

Calling young children dunces is never OK, plus Brad & Angelina didn't technically "spit out" all of them. Deducing that Angelina will vote for McCain is also false, since she and her father are estranged and hardly share the same values.

Having said that, I do think that their "philantropy" is a bit too in-your-face and holier-than-thou to be authentic, but it doesn't make it OK for Roseanne to trash their children.

Yeah, that was my reaction too. Eh, I've always liked Rosanne B. Embarassed The rant seems kinda outta nowhere but whatevs, I agree with her on some points. Could've said it better. She should've left the kids out of it though.

But apart from the "dunces" she's dead on. Angelina Jolie wears a machine gun necklace - doesn't that seem out of keeping with her "humanitarianism"? These people are shallow and have incomes higher than than 99% of the general population. Why should they? Why shouldn't they devote part of their income to charity? It would be criminal not to. Roseanne's right: Angelina Jolie is a hypocrite whose violent films - all of which are in wide release - undo whatever good she might have done as a UN ambassador by proclaiming that violence is sexy.

I doubt that Brangie will respond to her ridiculous rant, they will certaintly not stoop to her level. And what does she know how much money they donate? Didn't they just donate the $14mil they got for the pics to charity?

Roseanne Barr Blasts Oprah’s Endorsement of Obama

    Friday, January 11, 2008

Former TV star Roseanne Barr blasted Oprah Winfrey’s endorsement of Barack Obama on her Web site this week, calling the talk show host a “closeted Republican.”

“Oprah has given us Swartzenegger [sic] and Dr. Phil,” Roseanne writes. “If that was not offensive enough to decent thinking people, now she brings us Obama.”

Roseanne also “tells” Winfrey, “You are a closeted republican and chose Barak [sic] Obama because you do not like other women who actually stand for something to working American Women besides glamour, angels, Hollywood and dieting!”

Wednesday night, Roseanne wrote, “I have decided that having a woman president before any man of any color is what these times call for.”

But Thursday morning she said she likes Oprah and Obama, and was sorry for coming off harshly.

“I am so sorry for sounding like I don’t like Oprah or Obama. I do. Oprah has been a force for good for a long time, and I just got carried away with my preference for Hilary [sic] over Obama. I think she is smarter and better than he is, but either of them is better than any Republican, and will get my vote no matter who ends up on top.

“I got upset because I felt Oprah was adding to the divisiveness in this country. I am sorry Oprah, I really do admire and love you for all the good you do and have done in this country and the world at large. I am just so worried about another Republican getting in, my stomache hurts and I can’t sleep, and I go over the top sometimes!”

I don't think a woman who writes such incomprehensible drivel should be calling anybody else a dunce. She has a lot of hatred for strangers. That's not healthy.

What I mean is: This is a person who - whether we like it or not - actually has some clout. And she fails to realize that starring in mindlessly violent movies is a conflict of interests. I think Roseanne Barr's right to be angered by it. I certainly am.

    HOLY TIRADE BATMAN! LOL

Okay, I'm SO not a fan of Brad and Angie, but I have to give them credit for NOT SUPPORTING A CANDIDATE. I repeat my earlier sentiment that Hollywood needs to STAY OUT of politics and let the rest of us make up our own minds. I agree with Roseanne's points about their movies and Brads vacuousness (that really made me laugh) but I disagree with just about every other point she makes.

IF more celebrities would just say "I haven't decided who I'm voting for yet" then maybe we as Americans would take more time to make up our OWN minds rather than let ourselves be influenced by the likes of Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Sean Penn, Jon Voight etc etc etc.

".it might be good for your asian and african children's self esteem to know you support a brown man for the leader of the free world" That's offensive. Support Obama because he's black? Great. That's not racist.

"We want to save not lose our souls thank you. " Vote Obama, save your soul. Nice.

I voted other because Roseanne is really just a has been in my book. She does raise some good points, but they would have been more well received if there wasn't an undertone of hatred and jealousy. I notice Roseanne did not mention the % of her income that she gives to charity, I bet the % is lower than Brad or Angelina. I'm not an Angelina fan, but I do admit that both she and Brad are attempting to make a positive impact on this world. Just drawing attention to some of the issues is a step in the right direction in my book. What good did Roseanne's rant do?

Also, am I the only one who is offended by the "brown man" sentence? Shouldn't we be looking at more than skin color when determining who to vote for?

I don't know who Roseanne Barr is, and I'm pretty sure I'm not missing anything.
One thing is sure though, she's right about Jolie and Pitt, who are simply stupid. They make ridiculously violent movies, are in awe at their son being into gun toys (which has nothing to do with his age, and everything to do with the culture of violence he is raised in), and they cry in the media about violence in poorest countries, and wars, and refugees? Logic, anyone?
