Britney Spears spent her Sunday grabbing lunch at Chaya after hitting the dance studio in LA. Unfortunately, we won't get to see her moves showcased on stage just yet — despite recent rumors, it has been confirmed by Ryan Seacrest that Britney will not be performing at the VMAs in two weeks. Most of us had our fingers crossed to see her on stage again, but maybe this just means the pop star is taking all the time she needs to get it right when she finally decides to step back into the spotlight.

i dont think she was ready anyway.
thank god, don't think she is ready, they would just force it liek last year and it wouldn't be that great.
noo im so upset. that was my bdy present lol. my bduy is same day as vmas o well
that's a shame that she's not going to perform at this year's VMAs. i was looking forward to it - but i guess we can't really be upset about it right? she's really come full circle this year - and that's just one major leap that she's taken.
Bummer.
Good news. She should concentrate on herself mainly her kids.
She's finally bouncing back..good for her! =]
I knew she wouldn't perform. Otherwise we'd be seeing loads of pictures of her going to dance class. And what song would she perform anyways? Give me even more? Ha, I know that was a bad joke
Anyways as long as she makes a red carpet appearance I'll be satisfied! And it would be nice if she won as well..
I'm not going to believe she's not performing until I see it for myself, because there have been SEVERAL behind the scenes people from the VMA's quoted as being "Sly" when asked about the Britney appearance, others as saying "No" and still others that say "Oh yes, she'll be performing"! I get the feeling this is all a big "hush hush" if it IS a performance.
So, I'm not giving up hope JUST YET.
I would LOVE to see her perform, bt it also doesn't mean "She's back" it just means "She's getting there".
I'm with omigosh. I think a red carpet appearance and a night out would be plenty for now.
As much as I like Britney, though, her last two videos were grossly disappointing, and if she won, it would just give even less credibility to the VMAs.
What a shame.
Too much too soon. She should continue her improvement at the pace she's at. Why mess with progress?
I have been saying for some time, she doesnt look healthie or ready. She looks the way she was before the breakdown. She has that crazy smile. Her parents seem to pressure her heavily for a come back. She needs to have someone around her who wont gain from her,and lead some quite time.
too bad she won't be performing at the VMAs -- I was hoping she would help me forget last year's performance... she looks great tho!
ok well then I wont watch the VMA's, thats the only reason I watched it last year, and the only reason why I WAS going to watch it this year, but o well.
maybe it will be a secret performane...or maybe im too optomistic. either way...the vmas are going to be amazing...
She was not ready. But it would have been great to see her.
I second that meowtomekitty.
I'm going to watch, but only because I still think she'll be there performing. Something tells me after the ratings they pulled LAST year, they're going to throw her in as a surprise.
I'll admit I was hoping to see it, but I think that was a smart decision...no point in rushing things.
I understand why some of you think its a secret performance...but that will do nothing for the ratings if they say shes not...alot of people won't watch if shes not performing. Why sabatoge your ratings? But who knows.
Didn't think she was ready, it's good to see she made the right decision!
Aww thats a bummer, but I think she should wait until she's completely ready. She doesn't have a new album to promote yet anyway...
I don't think she's ready. If she keeps on track this way through the next year, then I'd say go for it but I still think it is way too early. If she did perform and it was anything less than brilliantly amazingly stellar, she'd be kissing any hope for a comeback goodbye. People gave her a chance with the HOB mini-tour and she failed massively. People then gave her a second chance with the VMAs performance and that was a fail on a much bigger and more public scale. I think her next chance will be the strike 3 if she doesn't do it right.
not sure about this but I'll catch the re-run and the backhanded comments from the media
she won't perform, because she'll fall flat on her face.
Who gives a SH*T about this idiot...
I don't think she is ready, but the girl is looking good. I hope she continues with her recovery.
She is looking very pretty. Although I am not a fan it wasn't fun seeing her go down in flames, hopefully she'll rise from the ashes gracefully when it is time and I wish her the best of luck. As for her last VMA performance let's just forget about it already.
oh thank god
Good. Her last VMA performance was a disgrace. She shouldn't perform until she is ready.
Darn. Last years image of an open-mouthed, stunned audience was so memorable, and let's not forget that her performance launched the "career" of Chris Crocker.
I am SOOOOOOO sad! I really wanted to see her come back and rock out at the VMA's this year!!!
I miss you Brit! I am ready for a new album!

I'm a bit disappointed but well... Maybe she didn't feel ready or strong enough!
What a shame. I was really hoping that she would perform but I guess it's better that she is 100% ready for her comeback.
baby steps....good
and thank god she's not.
MTV is probably counting on folks tuning in thinking she might make an appearance, even with these denials. The past few years, the show has been such a mess.
Im happy she isnt going to perform! This is the first time I feel she might have her act together finally...shes not ready for this and someone is smart enough not to push her in (or stop her from pushing herself in!)
...anyways this is good news!
I think she's really trying hard this time and I'm happy she's not performing.
Go Britney!
