The long awaited Britney Spears opening included a pre-taped clip with Jonah Hill before her blink-and-you'll-miss-it intro which was greeted by a touching standing ovation and eventually three moonmen! Host Russell Brand didn't hold back when bashing President Bush, calling Palin a VILF and begging for Obama support. He also mocked the promise ring wearing Jonas Brothers but Jordin Sparks came to their defense and called Brand a slut. Rihanna looked amazingly badass twice —opening the show with "Disturbia" and later doing a duet with T.I. Other performances included Kanye, Christina Aguilera, Pink, the Jonas Brothers and Kid Rock — all of them full of energy and enjoyable. Also, Demi Moore, Lauren Conrad and Michael Phelps presented awards! So much to talk about, what was your favorite part?
To see LOTS more photos of all of the stars at the show including Paris giving Brit a moonman, Ashlee and Pete, Jonas Brothers, Shia, Christina and LL just read more.

Brit looks good. Taylor looks a fright!
1Brit Brit looks adorable
2the overall show kinda sucked ass this year..imo. it just didnt feel the same
3britney did look hot
4i agree, it wasn't that great. i did love brit though!
5Britney did look great! I wished she would have performed but I guess she really didn't have anything to promote so she might as well wait until then. This was the worst VMA show I've seen. It was so boring and Russell Brand wasn't a good choice for the host. The set also looked cheap and it looked like they had to cram people in there.
6So happy for Brit Brit. Jordin Sparks can suck it. LOL. Russell Brand was sooooo funny and his jokes about the Jonas Brothers were the funniest of the night. I mean give me a freaking break, its great they choose not to have sex but those who choose to have sex aren't sluts. Give me a break. If done right and safely, sex is fantastic. Some people like to have sex. Its natural and human. Just be safe. Jeez. LOL. Russell and I need to meet up one day.
7Britney looked beautiful. Christina's performance was lame. Rihanna just shouldnt sing live. Russell was annoying as crap. Overall it was totally boring and the most anticlimactic VMA I think I've ever seen. Thumbs down.
8I can't believe I missed it! Dang family and having errands to do on Sunday Night! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Anyone know where I can catch the full show online somewhere?
9I have to agree LOVE ANGELINA, Jordan Sparks is freaken stupid. Why does having sex make you an automatic slut? If they want to wait fine, but don't rag on the people that don't.
10mykie on youtube i think, it did suck but i have not watched in years other than last night when i was flipping through channels, what was with brit sticking out her tongue
11brian I agree 1000%
12Overall the show was low budget and looked bad. The choice for the host was insulting and I will never see one of his movies ever ... go back to England, we don't want you here.
13Brit did look beautiful. Hopefully things are looking up for her.
14It was a boring show in comparison to most years. I flipped from boredom.
15TERRIBLE show. I switched on and off a lot...a lot more switching off though.
Taylor Swift seemed like a deer caught in headlights. Poor thing seemed nervous.
Miley Cyrus was annoying as usual.
Rihanna couldn't sing and neither could Miley (when she did the Rock Band "skit").
16Christina lip-synching---yuck.
Mykie i think they are replaying it on mtv on tuesday night.
I will admit i almost turned the channel when Russel started his speech about Obama and Palin and Bush. I found it obnoxious!
17I watched a nano second of the VMA's and saw Brit win the first award...my husband and I said to the TV "aww, Brit, keep it together"....X-Tina's performance must've sucked b/c I have been reading that...saw Kate Perry singing in the corner lmao...why did they let her do "like a virgin" and her song during commercial breaks, lmao...
18Good thing Pink had taped her nipples, huh? Maybe her shirt shouldn't have been open that much.
Oh, and the beginning of Christina's performance was stupid. You could barely see her inside that glass wall-elevator thing.
Has Britney really never won a VMA before? I thought the host was joking when he said that. How is that possible?
Yeah, overall the show was lame. Thank goodness for TiVo and being able to fast-forward through all the awards and only watch the performances!
I cringed every time Russell Brand spoke. He was so offensive and not funny. I'm a Democrat and I couldn't even stand his Republican-bashing!
19Bill Cosby use to say only desperate Comedian's have to use vulgar language to get laughs....that's how I felt last night listening to Russell Brand. Was he so desperate that all he could give was Bush jokes? They are so boring. I guess if that's all he's got - that's all he's got.
20thanks Martini, I knew you would haha
I kept wanting them to go to Britney when Christina was singing to see what her face was... I was SO wanting that to happen.
21Oh no mention/photos of the BEST part/upset of the night!? Tokio Hotel beating Swift, Perry, Sparks AND Cyrus in Best New Artist? That was my highlight!!
I liked the VMA's...a lot!
22I was surprised at how small and cheap looking the venue was.I figured with it being the 25th one they would have had a much better show. But I haven't watched this crap in years so maybe its been crappy for awhile!
23I just loved Christina's performance. Sooooo cool!
24I actually thought it was much better than last year. Russell Brand, whoever he is, was hilarious! Same type of humor that Chris Rock has, and most eveyrone LOVED Rock. I hate that just because these "kids" chose to tell the world that they're pure, we have to hear it, who cares? Why do we need to know about their choices? Is it going to affect me or my decisions? Not in the slightest. BE UNIQUE people, make decisions based on how YOU feel and how you believe, not how someone else feels or believes.
25Aww you guys I liked Russell Brand. I guess some of his jokes were a little vulgar but overall I think that he was all about positivity to those who deserve it. I guess people who are all about negativity don't like that free-spirited approach... But I did! I was a little bummed because watching Russell got me in such a good mood what with everything he was saying, how he was basically praising everyone there... and then right afterward everyone bashed him! That was a rude awakening to my positive mood. AMEN to everyone who said that ppl who have sex aren't sluts!!
26lmfao serasvictoria thats what i was thinking
27Thanks ana isabel!!!!
Oh Lily I loved the VMAs. Best one in years. I loved it. I loved how it opened and I loved Russell, the aweomest host ever and I loved Kanye West closing the show with that song, Love Lockdown, I have to have it. OMG!!!! The performances were awesome...expect the Jonas Brothers. They suck. Great night though.
28It was so nice to see Britney in a pretty dress! Shocking, really. She looked great and grateful.
Rihanna's inability to dance is painful to watch. Her stage presence is pretty awful, it was uncomfortable watching her sort-of contort to Disturbia. Weird.
29Also I LOVED all the performances!! Pink was awesome.. I love how Rihanna ALWAYS performs live.. I don't think I've ever seen her lip-synching.. which is brave and amazing on her part! LOVE ANGELINA i love you lol!!! We should start a fan club haha!!
30Judging by the pictures I'm so glad I didn't watch. So Britney won moonmen the same year Susan Lucci is on Dancing With the Stars...no whiff of obviousness there.
31*'She looked beautiful'OMG!...I guess she's come along way from bald-headed, sucking on chilli cheese fries at Sonics. No where to go but up from there! I wish they'd show a picture of her drunk, cigarette puffing, child neglecting behind today.
Ditto....I agree with you all about the whole Sparks thing....people who have sex are sluts? Keep telling yourself that, Jordan
32And Russell? He has a new fan
why is a singer singing live to be praised as brave. thats their job!!!!so to praise one for not lip synching but sounding bad is shocking to me. none of these performers are any good. pure hot air
33
Looks like I missed the Britney Pity Party. But looking at the pics, I see she still has great
teeth.
34Haha IDK I think she sounded pretty good! The reason i think its brave is because so many other people don't do it now. I do think that's the way it should ALWAYS be done though!
35I'm sure what Jordan meant is that when you go from partner to partner you are a slut...and if you do then you are...OWN IT!
36People have just as much right to defend choosing to abstain. She only said it because that frightful Russell dissed the Jonas Brothers. The media has made being promiscuous the norm and now kids who chose not to have sex are the outcasts. What else are they supposed to do when they are outnumbered? succumb? So they can be trashed like Jamie Lynn Spears...who's little sister? Right! The nasty one who'd rather party than raise her own children... the one applauded and awarded.
Russell Brand was hilarious. And let's face it, truthful.
37Mes, I was with you til the end. Then I was let down.
38Jordin didn't really say if you have sex you are a slut. This is her quote:
"I just have one thing to say about promise rings. It's not bad to wear a promise ring," Sparks, 18, told the crowd, off-the-cuff, "because not everybody – guy or girl – wants to be a slut."
Russell basically said they should use their celebrity to sleep around, i think that is what she was getting at.
39I thought that the show was so bad!! Te comments that Brand made me want to send him right back to the UK!! It is one thing if you do not like the President but it is another to stand up there and make fun of kids for standing up for something that they believe in. He is a stupid jerk who needs to shut up and stick to worrying about his own country!!
40ovreall i personally found the show to be painful! i adore russell and he just didn't do it for me - and i think that there was so much hype around britney that her opening remarks didn't quite to do anything any justice. oh well.
41I think it's clear that Britney's record company (or someone) paid MTV for some publicity 'cause there's no way that video won that many awards. That's a joke. While I agree Brit looked better, she still has the vacant staring into space thing going on. I'm not sure she's ever going to be 'normal' again.
42Britney recieved pity awards. There is no other explanation behind it.
43Back at you Briandiesel LOL... might not like it...but it's true! I never lied...
44why is the focus on who is or might be a slut? probably any guy on the planet would be one if he thought he could get away with it, lol.
the purity rings are a joke. i'm staying "pure" see my ring
the jonas brothers are either
unicks or liars. and the girls; either false advertisers or liars.
45LOL @ serasvictoria and jenwils01.. mk(dlisted) thinks it was rigged..hehe
46Good ol'Mk he always has it right!!
47Pity or not, I think it was great that she got a standing ovation. People can trash her all she wants but the girl has been suffering from a serious mental illness and its good to see people acknowledge that. There is such a stigma with mental illness and being "crazy" and to see someone getting support publicly will hopefully speak to those less famous who are suffering from the same illness or know someone who does. The more people acknowledge it and become open to discussing it and learning about it, the more people there are that will get help and a proper diagnosis.
I hope that one day she speaks more openly about it because so many people don't understand the disorder. She can put a name and face to those who suffer silently cause they're ashamed.
48britney looked great! yay!
49Worst VMAs ever. The only good thing was Britney. Yeah they may have been pity awards but look how many times she was snubbed in the past.
