Beckham resigned as captain from the World Cup team following their loss to Ecuador earlier this summer. Now apparently Becks has been dropped from the national soccer team by coach Steve McClaren. Victoria is working with his PR team to quickly get the word out that it was his decision to leave, but sources say the coach has his reasons. Page Six reports:
FORMER English soccer captain David Beckham is being dropped from the national team. Page Six has learned that newly appointed English coach Steve McClaren will deliver the shock announcement today. The revelation comes a day after Chelsea captain John Terry was named Beckham's successor. Beckham will continue to play for the Real Madrid team. As the ax falls, Beckham - married to ex-pop star Victoria "Posh Spice" Adams - is said to be working with his p.r. spinmasters to get out the word that it was his decision to leave. "McClaren wants to decelebritize the England team," our source said. "He wants to get back to basics - the game of football without all the distractions. He's also making a new rule: no more wives or girlfriends traveling with the team. That's out."

15rooney's too good right now. as for becks--he remains to be an awesome captain, but as a player, i'd say lampard and gerrard were better midfielders..but still--it's so unexpected, at one point or another, he almost seemed like 'the heart of the team'...but i agree, mcclaren is definitely making a mistake..as for cronaldo..manu loves him too much..the man knows his footwork

21I agree with the McClaren to drop Beckham because he is too much of a distraction for the team...with his silly dress sense, hair cuts and tattoo's. The WAG's totally ruined our world cup and I am glad this new manager is putting a stop to all their antics....it is a football game and not Hollywood.
Like someone else said he does not play that well anymore anyway...he was a liability in the world cup as he did not play well and he is technically at the end of his career anyway.
He should stick to what he does best and at the moment that is being a celebrity and endorsing products.
22Not suprised, he stepped down as captain so even he knows that he's seen better days. I would've thought he'd be in the first team, but maybe McLaren knows what he's doing. Maybe we'll get to see if Theo Walcott was worth all that pre-world cup hub-bub.

24He dropped him for a good reason and that's because his game has been seriously lacking for a long time. He was horrible in the World Cup and did nothing to help the team. Rooney is up in the air right now as he's still recovering from his injury.. they're hoping they can do a turn around with him. He quit as captain of the English team on his own accord and now he's been cut from playing for England.. good move in my opinion. He didn't bring anything to the team and they don't need the celebrity crap when they're trying to play.
And there are a lot of players that are cheaters in one way or another.. it's almost part of the game unfortunately. I mean.. Cristiano Ronaldo anyone? Yes he's hot and yes he's an awesome player, but faking injuries constantly? I think so..

And in response to the USA rumours above -- no, he can't join the US National team. That's not how they work. You actually need to be a citizen of the nation you play for. As for US club teams... he wouldn't play for any of those either. He may be a great crybaby with a flagging game, but he's not THAT bad!!
28Yes Beckham has been cut because the manager felt he had a poor World Cup performance and that theres others who can take his place. He hasn't announced international retirement which means he can win back his place cuz he's only been cut from the squad when they play Greece.
As for him joining the USA team - he can't because he wasnt't born there. And there's no way he would leave a club like Real Madrid to join a US club.
