Lauren Conrad transitioned from front row fan at Nanette Lepore into her role as designer to present her Fall 2008 collection yesterday at Bloomingdale's in NYC. Lauren's always juggled multiple projects, and now a big one just landed on her plate — she's signed a three-book deal with HarperCollins to write a fictional series for young adults loosely based on her life. There seems to be nothing this Hills star can't conquer, and with a whole generation of loyal fans, it sounds like the perfect match for the rising talent — we just wonder where she'll find the time.

1Seriously? This just makes me so sad. This girl has done nothing her whole life besides make googly eyes on camera, and she gets things that other people have worked their whole lives for handed to her. How many people who eat, sleep and breathe writing would kill for a three-book deal?
2Come on.Who is she?I mean can she write?
3jkat, you took the words right out of my mouth. I'm absolutely disgusted.
4Where do people get necklaces like that?
WHERE!?!?!?
5I'm sorry...WHAT?
6I don't think this girl has ever READ a book, now she's going to write them? I think what they mean is some poor underpaid schlep on the bottom rung of the ladder is going to ghostwrite a series of books onto which her name will be pasted. That's sad.
You can have your fake reality show and your fake fashion line, but I think books are sacred.
Amen, Treb!
7Talentless, one-note skank.
8People, let's get real, MTV is making millions off of her...as sad as it may be why wouldn't this book company try to get ahold of her? Whether you want to admit it or not - Lauren Conrad in 2008 = millions in revenue. I say, hate the game not the player.
9In other words... a ghost writer will write the books and her name and picture will be on it...happens ALL the time. Much like songwriting!
10Like those recycled clothes in the clothing line. It's all stuff from before nothing new.
But don't blame her, (some of) you guys made that ridiculous show popular. Blame nothing else on TV to watch!
*treb we're on the same wavelength...didn't even read your comment... that's bad news for YOU! LOL
11how come she can get a three-book deal and I can't???
12BARF. why go to college or work hard for things when you can be on a reality show and have everything handed to you. when can we give these attention wh*res their own island so normal people can live without having to hear about them. i care more about what shirt i wore last wednesday than i care about these wastes of brain cells.
13oo busy busy gal eh
14Of course this skank will have a ghost writer, in the UK, fellow skanks like Jordan and Kerry Katona have ghost writers.
15Grrrr...I don't get it.
BUT I do like her outfit. I love this look.
16good for her...she prolly knows this wont last forever and she should take advantage of it while she can. I'd rather see her do this and even if she does have a ghost writer she is going to have to put effort into it and its better than staging fake photo ops for her $$ ::cough::Speidi::cough:
17Next she'll be a brain surgeon
18I am stoked! Obviously she will have a professional writer helping her!
193 books? what in the holy name of talentless skank does she have in her life to make 3 books out of? much less One, much less a freaking post it note?
20I say milk it while you can!
21You people are so angry and jealous!!! Most actors, start out of nowhere... so did LC. I admire her and how she has been able to make a name for herself by just being natural and grabbing the opportunity that MTV offered her. You wish you could have that opportunity and who wouldn't take it??? A D--- A--! So chill, swallow it up and try to live your life instead of being angry at the world. My congrats to Lauren, yo go girl!!!! Best wishes to you.
22Good for her I guess, but I'm not sure why they'd ask an MTV reality star to write 3 books
23She looks pretty though
jealous? most actors have TALENT. how can i be jealous of somebody who doesn't have something that i actually have?
24I guess I can’t really blame publishers for noticing there is a market for her and capitalizing on it. I think that if she gets a professional to help her she could come out with something that young girls may like to read. Many celebs do it, Nicole Richie’s book deal comes to mind being that she was a reality tv star as well. I am sort of “up in the air” with how I feel on this one. I doubt she is a talented writter but at the same time calling her a skank is a bit harsh. I think she is making the most of an opportunity, I know I would do the same!
25That aside, I love the outfit she is sporting in these pictures.
Wow great news for her, I am so proud to see her succeed. I think she will write the book on her own but get help from a professional writer and editors. There is some news that her books might turn into movies and she wants to do production. Congrats Miss Conrad and her clothes at Bloomingdales are very cute and chic.
26s...pants: Well she really has a talent at her reality show... MTV has made millions with it!!!! How come you dont have your own reality show...??? And sorry but there are very few good actors that are actually famous, most of them are in a backyard theather, the other ones just got lucky.
27I suppose any minute we'll find out she can sing too.
28It really irritates me when people like this are paid massive sums of money and given so much publicity to publish, while there are thousands of really talented and dedicated authors struggling just to get their manuscripts read.
29ok, i see my comment was misinterpreted. i am not an actress. i said talent in the meaning that i have a great degree from a top-notch school, and am attending grad school to further my education. i have a successful career and have been published (for research). i just hate how people work their asses off (and put themselves in thousands of dollars in debt) to do things that make this world a better place, and these reality "stars" make millions of dollars doing nothing. i hate to see the next generation: "hmm, should i go to college and become a doctor, or should i be on this tv show?" it makes me sad.
30That's the thing... not all reality tv stars have come this far like Lauren. So this means that she sure has some kinda talent and a lot of people like her. Just look at the numbers. Oh well, I admire her for grabbing the opportunity that we all could wish for. Nobody said that life was fair, we just have to be happy that we have what we have.
31Why is she even famous? She has no talent whatsoever!!
32Never cared much for her either way, but this makes me sick to my stomach, I have to agree 100% with treb, fake "reality" show, fake fashion line, but books are something of a completely diff caliber, I hope this project fails miserably
33Snarkypants I agree with you. I actually agree with most of you on this. I'm not hating. I am envious. I just wish that people would get recognized for actual talent and notable achievements. lauren... is lucky. She used the opportunities that were given to her. i mean it's not like she's flava flav. She's not ridiculous. Congratulation to her. (sigh) gonna go back to living my mediocre life and have no one else watch it. (well I think I have a funny life, lol but that's my opinion)
34When you hate others for no reason, it means that you are not happy with yourself. So think and be glad to be you and stop with the anger, things will get better... life is beautiful!!!
35Pit, Because people have reality shows, and "jobs" because of those shows, does not mean they have talent (New York, Danny Bonaduce, The Kardashians, Flavor Flav, and the Hills, nicole richie, paris hilton,) I dont hate LC for no reason, I dislike her because its bothersome to me that people like her and her cast mates give nothing to america but vapid conversation and rampant materialistic immoral views.
Its not jealousy i feel its disgust. There are far more talented "designers" writers and personalities who deserve thier own shows, collections and books but dont because they have scruples.
36I don't hate her. I think she's pretty and seems sweet and I can understand why people like her. I like her. I just have too much respect for literature to be happy that a girl, who let's face it, is OBVIOUSLY not the brightest bulb gets a three-book deal. It sucks and I'm embarrassed for anybody who would actually buy her books.
37This is how america works. The rich gets richer! I bet her book will be number 1 for weeks.
There are many people who actually love her and everything she does. As long as her fan base is alive and well LC's pockets will continue to grow. Next- is a THE LC fragrance.
38I dont think you have to hate someone or be jealous of them to know that that's some whack ass sh*t! Someone's def gonna be capitalizing on the idiocy of youths...readin about the 'life' of this 21(?) year old flake.
39You guys sound like you dont live in this planet... who says life is fair? Who says only good books should be read? Who says what is good fashion and what is not? Who says The Hills is not good TV??? It provides entertainment and it is well sold. I like it, so dont bother critizing others for liking what you dont. Enjoy life, laugh at what you think is dumb but please dont be mean. Judge and you will be judged. LOVE and PEACE please.
40HUH!?!?!?
41I am in no way jealous of Lauren Conrad. I am saddened by the diluition of once-talent driven professions in our society. Fashion designers, muscians, actors and writers used to be disctinct professions and passions that took training, vision and heart. The were the ART of our society. Art is something that humanity has held dear since our earliest beginnings. Now, it has become marketing. It has become part of a mass media conglomerate. Yes, there are still true artists, but it just makes me sad that something that helps preserve moments in time, and the history of humankind has become cheap. I am not saying Lauren Conrad is a bad person, or lazy or anythign else. I am saying the way these fiels are devolving is disappointing to watch.
42"once talent-driven." ... sorry. Guess that's why I am not a writer
. Ditto for
typos.
43I agree completely, jkat.
It is possible to disapprove of something without being motivated by envy, difficult as that may be for some people to grasp.
44I want some of whatever pitip is smoking. That's some good sh*t girl!
45Pit, well than i Ask why is your opinion of LC and the hills the one that matters? I say the Hills isnt a good show it doesnt provide to me entertainment at all, I say that all books be worthy of being read, I say life should be fair, I can make the call for myself on what is good fashion.
So how about You dont tell others what to like and what not too. You can have an LC party all day long, I am just saying she sucks.....and thats not jealousy its my opinion.
46I see nothing wrong with having higher standards for art.
47If that makes me a judgmental snob, that's cool with me.
ja ja J2 I just dont understand people that complain all the time for stuff they have no control of! what a waste of time and energy!!!
48Cater... I am not telling you what to like or not, just chill woman!
Have a great day, gee, I am outta here, the negativism spreads...
ta ta
1) Discussing and complaining are two different things.
2) Simply because I don't have control over something does not mean have to like it, accept it or be happy about it. I have no control over nuclear warfare. Does that mean I should have no opinion over whether or when it is employed? If people adopted that attitude about everything, they would never voice their dissent on many many things, and this world would be a far worse off place. LC's book deal might not be as important as nukes, but it doesn't mean I have to like when publishers try to push crap product on me, and I certainly don't have to keep my mouth shut about how I don't like what creative industries have become.
49well - i guess it's something different for her to do right? i wonder if it's something that she'll have a ghost writer for or if it'll be on her own. for some reason she doesn't really strike me as the kind who'll be very good at writing a whole book. even experiences writers have a hard time with it.
