Michelle Obama is able to jump-start new health- and dance-related initiatives, attend summits and galas around the world with her husband, take her kids to school, and look amazing as she juggles it all. From the custom Jason Wu gown she donned at the president's inaugural ball to casual J.Crew separates, we love her signature style of mixing high and low brands. Her special attention on supporting new, young designers, her disposition toward wearing bright, bold colors, and her knack for showing off those amazingly toned arms are just a few more reasons why we love our FLOTUS's panache. Kirsten Gillibrand and More Rising Female Politicians on Our Radar

Happy birthday, Kirsten Gillibrand!

Happy birthday, Kirsten Gillibrand! The recently re-elected New York senator turns 46 today. Kirsten has a lot of buzz surrounding her as a possible 2016 presidential candidate, and in fact celebrity interviewer Amanda de Cadenet told us that she could see Kirsten as our first female president.

Senator Gillibrand is one of a number of women who have what it takes to soon reach the same power status as dames like Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton. Considering that this recent election had some big wins for women (we are set to have a record number of women, 20, in the Senate come 2013), we have high hopes for female representation in politics. To do our part in recognizing women in government, we've gathered some names of up-and-coming women in politics, including governors, some attorneys general, and senators. Join us in getting to know these ladies while they're still on the rise.

Female Liberals Had Highest Voter App Turnout on Facebook

If you're a Democratic woman who likes Michelle Obama (and binders full of women), you probably voted in this year's presidential election.

If you're a Democratic woman who likes Michelle Obama (and binders full of women), you probably voted in this year's presidential election. Well, at least according to Facebook.

Thanks to the site's stats we already know what your Facebook "likes" say about your political party, but now the social media powerhouse has released findings on what type of Facebook users went to the polls this last election. The numbers on who participated in Facebook's voter app — an election day message on the top of the site with the option to click "I'm a voter" — give us a limited picture on who turned out on election day, but considering 9 million users used the app (out of Facebook's total 168 million US users), it's worth looking at.

Here's what we learned from the app stats:

  • App participants "liked" Michelle Obama and Paul Ryan more than the presidential candidates. In the data on Facebook turnout based on a "liking" a celebrity, First Lady Michelle Obama and VP hopeful Paul Ryan took the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively. President Obama was third, and Mitt Romney was 17th.
  • Twice as many women than men used the voter app. And while we've seen slightly higher voter turnout from women in recent elections, the drastic gender difference on the site is just another example of how women share more in general on Facebook. Typically female users comment, "like," and update their statuses about twice as much as men.
  • Liberal users participated more. Those who stated their political affiliation as "Democratic" and liberal" were most likely to push the Facebook "I'm a voter" button. Next up were the Green and Libertarian parties, Republicans, independent, conservative, other, and not surprisingly, apathetic at the bottom.
  • Nicki Minaj and Boo fans were less likely to use the voter app. The low participation numbers came from those who "liked" celebrities like Nicki Minaj, Adam Sandler, and LeBron James, as well as "cutest dog in the world" Boo.

Jill and Joe Biden's Sweetest Moments

President Barack Obama's sidekick, Joe Biden, turns 70 today!

President Barack Obama's sidekick, Joe Biden, turns 70 today! While the vice president is gearing up to serve his second term as Obama's right-hand man, he's had another person by his side for much longer: his wife of 35 years, Jill Biden.

We got a glimpse of Joe and Jill's sweet connection at the Democratic National Convention, as Jill made a touching introduction for Joe before his speech on the final day of the convention. She said, "When I first met him, Joe had already seen just how fragile life could be. When he was 29 years old, Joe lost his first wife and baby daughter in a tragic car accident while they were out getting their Christmas tree, and the boys were critically injured. Joe's life was shattered. But through his strong Catholic faith and his fierce love for our boys, Joe found the strength to get back up." Joe then took to the stage and thanked his wife, "Jilly," joking that he had no idea what he would have done if she turned down his fifth marriage proposal.

After he tragically lost his first wife, Joe was a single dad to his two sons for five years before meeting Jill on a blind date set up by his brother. And even after being married for more than three decades, the two seem to still have that special spark. At a political rally in 2008, Joe introduced his "drop-dead gorgeous" wife, and then at the 2009 inaugural ball he said, "I may not be able to dance, but I sure like holding her." They are just too cute! So in honor of Joe's big birthday, see Joe and Jill Biden's sweetest moments over the years.

10 Things Obama Supporters LOVE About Tuesday's Election

We're happy to present this story from one of our favorite sites, The Good Men Project.

We're happy to present this story from one of our favorite sites, The Good Men Project. Mark Greene explains why Obama supporters were so happy about this election.

  1. Our Social Media Kicked Your Super Pac's Ass
Sheldon Adelson, called by The New York Times, "the biggest single donor in political history" backed eight conservative Republican candidates through Super Pacs. None of them won. People have been wondering when America would have its social media driven "Arab Spring"? This was it.

Why Men Don't Always Want Sex

  1. Karl Rove's $300 million extra super, ugly, horrible super bad day
Karl Rove has been a boil on the ass of the American political landscape since he first ushered George W. Bush into the White House in 2000. His smug Fox News-driven run of seemingly invincible political gutter dredging has finally come to an end. His American Crossroads Super Pac spent a lot of money and delivered a record-breaking bad return on investment.
  2. Rape Became the Third Rail of American Politics
Lots of Tea Party Republicans took it on themselves to wax philosophical on the "rape thing." Todd "Legitimate Rape" Akin, Richard "God Intended" Mourdock and Joe "There's No Longer Any Threat to The Life of the Mother" Walsh are now looking for lobbying jobs. It would appear that women don't take kindly to having their reproductive rights traded for Tea Party votes.
  3. Free at Last, Free at Last, Thank God We're Free at Last . . . From Network News.
This election season, through Facebook and Twitter, voters discovered that fact checking happens. For the first time in a presidential election, we didn't have wait for network news to notice when a candidate said something stupid, or wrong or hateful. Even in the case of Romney's 47 percent comment, which took a while to fully catch on, the facts came out. To devastating effect. We are finally free of network news' lazy group think reporting of political spin as fact.

All the Single Ladies . . . Voted For President Obama

We didn't get the right to vote until 1920, yet today, American women make up 54 percent of the electorate.

We didn't get the right to vote until 1920, yet today, American women make up 54 percent of the electorate. If you want to guess which way a woman is going to vote, you might just need to look at her ring finger. On Tuesday, more single women voted for Barack Obama, while Mitt Romney won more votes from married women. The breakdown was not quite even, however. Obama won the votes of single women by a 67 to 33 margin, while Mitt picked up the votes of married women by a smaller margin of 53 to 46. In addition, the number of married women is decreasing. Thus, experts agree that single women are consolidating into a crucial voting bloc that is overwhelmingly siding with the Democrats.

Everybody Loves Birth Control

So why did two-thirds of single women, which include divorced, widowed, and unmarried women voters of all ages, vote for Obama? One explanation: Democrats changed the conversation about "women's issues" from abortion to birth control. Many women (and men) can disagree on abortion, but 99 percent of sexually active women have used contraception. When Obama decided to make birth control free under Obamacare, the GOP came out strongly against it and assembled an all-male panel to discuss it in Congress. Then Rush Limbaugh called women's right activist and law student Sandra Fluke, who was denied from speaking at the panel, a slut for advocating for free birth control, essentially insulting many women who use it. This all presented a clear distinction between the two political parties on that issue.

Picking on Planned Parenthood

Mitt Romney also said he would defund Planned Parenthood as soon as he took office. Planned Parenthood provides access to family planning as well as cancer screenings and other women's health services. As we saw with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure controversy earlier this year, threatening to defund Planned Parenthood does not go over well with many women. And when it comes to abortion, Republican Senate candidates Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock, who made absurd comments about rape, helped the Democrats shine light on Republicans who think that abortion should be illegal in all cases, which is out of step with what the majority of Americans believe.

As the Republican party takes a hard look at demographic trends, perhaps they will moderate their stances on women's health issues. Another upside? There's a chance single women will propel our first female president to victory in 2016.
