Rosario Dawson looked happy while leaving a club in West Hollywood this weekend, but it probably wasn't due to Grindhouse's box office ratings. The highly anticipated double feature couldn't compete with Will Ferrell & Disney (or even Ice Cube) and came in at #4 for the weekend, grossing $11.6 million. I guess the masses didn't want to spend their holiday weekend watching sex, gore, and women with machine guns for legs.

yeah, perhaps an Easter Weekend opening wasn't the best of choices for this one...
1cute jacket !
2That stinks! The movie was amazing and I loved every second of it! I think I may go see it again before it comes out! Love Fergie Fergs!
"Just be who you wanna wanna."
3Ha! Good!
4I really loved this movie actually. Well half of it. The first movie; Planet Terror by Robert Rodregiz (sp) was GREAT while the second; Death Proof by Terntino (sp?) was pure Shyt. Too much gab in the second movie that had you sitting there wanting it to be over.
However Planet Terror was FANTASTIC!
I can't believe 11 million is failing!? They should've put it up againest Wild Hogs so that movie could've been shut down it's first day. HA!
5That's the first thing my husband talked about after not seeing him for two days this weekend- he was totally bummed. He loved the movie.
6i liked grindhouse!
7My dad saw it and said it was so-so. Although I think every movie he will see from now on will pale in comparison to Wildhogs.
8Im going to see this probably this coming week end.
I was too busy with Easter to go.
"I wear my sunglasses at night so I can, so I can watch you live and breathe your storylines"
9I thought the movie would "tank". It didn't look like it would be any good to me or my husband.
10Not to be rude or anything....
11ya im thinking that a machine gun for a leg is not too easterish. whoever decided that this was a great weekend for this movie is a freakin genius.
Oh...
12I'm going to see this movie, it looks entertaining. I guess most people are like me and had WAY too much to do on a Holiday weekend that's all about the kids.
13I don't care what anyone says, Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror KICKED ASS!!!!
14Hey Drywall!!! Hope you had a nice Easter/Passover!!
15I say bring on the sex, gore and women with machine guns for legs!!!
16I think GrindHouse should have came out during the summer.
Style Before Comfort!
17I can't wait to see it!
18but yea, I was WAY too busy this weekend to go see a movie
Who's the dumbass at the studio that came up with the idea of releasing it EASTER WEEKEND when adults are spending time with their children. Dumb bastards don't deserve to earn more than what they did opening weekend. Talk about stupid.
19LOVED the movie. Perhaps the fact that half the movie-going population wasn't allowed to get into that particular show affected the revenue as well. I'm 28 years old and they carded me!
20I can't imagine this movie being a box-office hit on ANY weekend, let alone Easter.
21Oh, and I usuall have an aversion to Fergie, but she was actually really good in the movie. Planet Terror was awesome. Deathproof wasn't as exciting, but the more I've had time to think about it, the more I like it. And I though Rosario would have a more important part with all the publicity she's doing, but really, no.
22You must look pretty young treb! My boyfriend bought the tickets without me there, but I'm sure he got carded since he looks like he's 15, lol.
It's a good movie Blonde! Don't knock it till you try it!!
"Just be who you wanna wanna."
23Yeah, Fergs was great and GOREGEOUS! If anyone would like to see a pic of her from the movie, I'm using it as my default!
treb- I thought Rosario would have a bigger part too!
"Just be who you wanna wanna."
24I'll wait for the DVD
25Didn't get to see it, but I'm def looking forward to it as a friend of mine saw it and liked it and I'm also hearing good things here. I wouldn't be surprised if it makes more money next weekend than this weekend as the buzz grows and all the people like myself who were too busy with easter this weekend get a chance to go see it.
26Hey dance_allnite! I hope you had a good Easter! Anyways, I totally agree with you! I think it should do better next weekend! I'm going to see it again, so that should help, lol!
"Just be who you wanna wanna."
27BAD MOVE!!!
Whoever thought that easter weekend was good for this film is seriously stupid and is probably looking for another job...at least I hope so....
on a weekend of bunnies, chocolate, flowers, eggs and jesus....a bunch of killer stripers and crazy men certainly is not the way to go!
:|
28I'm not surprised.
29t_hive, thanks Easter was great, hope yours was too! And I guess if you're going to Grindhouse again I'll have to go twice to catch up, so that should help also.
30Next weekend is Friday the 13th and it may do a lot better but then you have Disturbia and Perfect Stranger coming out that weekend as well. The movie still will have some stiff competition.
31Yeah, mine was alright, thanks! Hahahaha you don't have to do that.
You know that I
only went to see it in the 1st place for Fergie Ferg!
"Just be who you wanna wanna."
32I agree with LaLa, this would have been a great summer movie. I'm still going to see it, but Easter weekend? Nooo. Still wondering how I'm going to sit through three hours...???
33Oooo I forgot about that shoes4life! I want to see Disturbia for Shia! I wanted to see Perfect Stranger too, but I heard it was really really bad!
"Just be who you wanna wanna."
34Chaoticfury- They give you a break in between the films!
"Just be who you wanna wanna."
35It seriously doesn't feel like 3 hours. I am easily distracted, but was able to sit through the entire thing without any problems. Even though they give you a 'break' I think the previews during the breaks are the best parts, so I'd stick around for them if you can.
36Hmmm, I didn't have good previews! I saw it at the Alamo Drafthouse and they always show weird stuff before the movies and on the break! It was cool that it was filmed pretty close to me though!
"Just be who you wanna wanna."
37I still wanna see it.
38I didn't go because I thought everyone else would be at the theater and it would be too crowded...oops...
39It was by me DarlingDA! All the shows were sold out and we had to get there an hour early! That may also be because it was filmed here!
"Just be who you wanna wanna."
40Summer would have been an excellent idea, it could have played at Drive Ins!
I don't know if I would call this a "tank"?

lol...i heard it sucked but i still wanna see it
42Grindhouse was hiiiiilarious! 3 hours flew by, and there is not an ounce of sarcasm in there. I loved it. I hope more go to see it... Oh well, I think Rodriguez and Tarantino will do juuuuust fine.
43Honestly, people don't seem to realize this. Grindhouse wasn't made to bring in a crap-load of money. Tarantino and Rodriguez made these movies as an homage to 70's B-movies. The movies were even made on crappy film, and there were scenes intentionally missing (sex scene with Rose McGowan and Freddy Rodriguez got off to a good start, then the remainder of the scene went "missing"). Just like back in the day. I know they don't care if it tanked, because all of us who loved it, and saw it for what it was, will reserve the DVD before it even comes out (unrated, people). There were even fake trailers between the two films that were not only HILARIOUS, but were 70's B-movietastic.
44Can we really find entertainment in the torture and torment of others?

I totally forgot about that shanshancedar! Thanks for the reminder! I will for sure be buying the DVD when it comes out!
46Yeah bad timing with the Easter weekend thing, but I gotta say, I really enjoyed the movie(s). And I disagree with some of the previous posts, I thought the Tarantino half "Death Proof" was awesome! I clapped at the end and so did almost everyone else in the theatre. Definitely a break from the ordinary.
47I am not surprised. It looks really dumb. Did anyone else hear anything about Robert Rodriguez and Rose McGowan having a little something going on during filming? And that his wife wants to divorce him?
48Yeah, I heard about that JennaV! That's crazy if it's true! He has like 5 kids too!
49These movies are homage to the 70's B films, just as the Kill Bills were homage to the dubbed martial arts, and western movies he watched on televison on a Saturday afternoon.
I can appreciate the films for being just that, but I found I didn't like martial arts or westerns any better when Quentin paid homage to them. Especially three hours worth.
This sounds good the way people are speaking about it, and I'm optimistic. I will always give Quentin a chance.
