Grindhouse Tanks

Rosario Dawson looked happy while leaving a club in West Hollywood this weekend, but it probably wasn't due to Grindhouse's box office ratings. The highly anticipated double feature couldn't compete with Will Ferrell & Disney (or even Ice Cube) and came in at #4 for the weekend, grossing $11.6 million. I guess the masses didn't want to spend their holiday weekend watching sex, gore, and women with machine guns for legs.

yeah, perhaps an Easter Weekend opening wasn't the best of choices for this one...

That stinks! The movie was amazing and I loved every second of it! I think I may go see it again before it comes out! Love Fergie Fergs!

I really loved this movie actually. Well half of it. The first movie; Planet Terror by Robert Rodregiz (sp) was GREAT while the second; Death Proof by Terntino (sp?) was pure Shyt. Too much gab in the second movie that had you sitting there wanting it to be over.
    However Planet Terror was FANTASTIC!

I can't believe 11 million is failing!? They should've put it up againest Wild Hogs so that movie could've been shut down it's first day. HA!

That's the first thing my husband talked about after not seeing him for two days this weekend- he was totally bummed. He loved the movie.

My dad saw it and said it was so-so. Although I think every movie he will see from now on will pale in comparison to Wildhogs.

I thought the movie would "tank". It didn't look like it would be any good to me or my husband.

I'm going to see this movie, it looks entertaining. I guess most people are like me and had WAY too much to do on a Holiday weekend that's all about the kids.

Who's the dumbass at the studio that came up with the idea of releasing it EASTER WEEKEND when adults are spending time with their children. Dumb bastards don't deserve to earn more than what they did opening weekend. Talk about stupid.

LOVED the movie. Perhaps the fact that half the movie-going population wasn't allowed to get into that particular show affected the revenue as well. I'm 28 years old and they carded me!

I can't imagine this movie being a box-office hit on ANY weekend, let alone Easter.

Oh, and I usuall have an aversion to Fergie, but she was actually really good in the movie. Planet Terror was awesome. Deathproof wasn't as exciting, but the more I've had time to think about it, the more I like it. And I though Rosario would have a more important part with all the publicity she's doing, but really, no.

Yeah, Fergs was great and GOREGEOUS! If anyone would like to see a pic of her from the movie, I'm using it as my default!

treb- I thought Rosario would have a bigger part too!

Didn't get to see it, but I'm def looking forward to it as a friend of mine saw it and liked it and I'm also hearing good things here. I wouldn't be surprised if it makes more money next weekend than this weekend as the buzz grows and all the people like myself who were too busy with easter this weekend get a chance to go see it.

    BAD MOVE!!!

Whoever thought that easter weekend was good for this film is seriously stupid and is probably looking for another job...at least I hope so....

on a weekend of bunnies, chocolate, flowers, eggs and jesus....a bunch of killer stripers and crazy men certainly is not the way to go!

Next weekend is Friday the 13th and it may do a lot better but then you have Disturbia and Perfect Stranger coming out that weekend as well. The movie still will have some stiff competition.

It seriously doesn't feel like 3 hours. I am easily distracted, but was able to sit through the entire thing without any problems. Even though they give you a 'break' I think the previews during the breaks are the best parts, so I'd stick around for them if you can.

Hmmm, I didn't have good previews! I saw it at the Alamo Drafthouse and they always show weird stuff before the movies and on the break! It was cool that it was filmed pretty close to me though!

Grindhouse was hiiiiilarious! 3 hours flew by, and there is not an ounce of sarcasm in there. I loved it. I hope more go to see it... Oh well, I think Rodriguez and Tarantino will do juuuuust fine.

Honestly, people don't seem to realize this. Grindhouse wasn't made to bring in a crap-load of money. Tarantino and Rodriguez made these movies as an homage to 70's B-movies. The movies were even made on crappy film, and there were scenes intentionally missing (sex scene with Rose McGowan and Freddy Rodriguez got off to a good start, then the remainder of the scene went "missing"). Just like back in the day. I know they don't care if it tanked, because all of us who loved it, and saw it for what it was, will reserve the DVD before it even comes out (unrated, people). There were even fake trailers between the two films that were not only HILARIOUS, but were 70's B-movietastic.
