Rihanna showed off her big bad blingin' ring as she made her way through LAX yesterday. She's quite a jet setter these days, but that wasn't always the case for the pop star. In a recent interview, Rihanna talks about growing up in Barbados, becoming a celebrity, and why she'll never take anything for granted. Here are highlights:
- On being famous enough to make her own decisions: "In the past, I had no say in how I was presented. Those decisions were made for me, right down to the colour of my lipstick. Then I got to a point where I felt confident enough to say, 'This is how I want to look. Take it or leave it.' You could look at it as a form of rebellion. I prefer to look at it as a transition from teenage girl to young woman. I make my own decisions now. When I decide something is going to happen, it happens."
- On her home life: "My dad left home when I was nine, so I was really young when I was living with his addictions. I didn’t understand exactly what was going on, but I knew he was doing something he shouldn’t be doing."
- On the party scene: "If I go to a club, I go for the sounds. I go out to have fun, to dance and laugh at people fighting or dressed like whores. I might have a few drinks, but I don’t get tipsy too easily. I don’t ever get to the point where I want to throw up, can’t stand up straight or say things I’m likely to regret in the morning."
- On appreciating what she has: "I don’t take any of that for granted. I grew up with little or no money. It’s made me appreciate everything so much more."
While Rihanna had a pretty tough childhood, it sounds like she still came out of it with a good head on her shoulders to go along with her big talent.

She really seems like a sweet, down-to-earth girl. I really hope she continues on the path she's at and keeps her head on straight.
1she's pretty...seems like a cool enough chick
2I love Rihanna. She shouldn't admit that she drinks though, as she's not even legal yet. Just saying..
3Haha theoretically she could be talking about when she drinks in Barbados (or any other country besides the US for that matter) where the drinking age is 17 or 18. Eh I'm a college student, 20, and I drink. Personally if you can get married, bury yourself in credit card debt, vote, and sign up for the military I don't see the problem.
I don't think she be arrested from a statement in an interview so shes safe
.
4shes one adorable girl
5Does she ever smile?
6dont gimme reason
dont gimme reason
u better learn how to treat us right
cuz once a good girl goes bad
she's gone forever...
love her!
7She looked sooo good with her long hair... now she looks god aweful.......
8no waay, i love the pixie
9i love Rihanna , she is sooo down to earth girl
10I like her songs because they're more like what women would really say and do... especially 'Breaking Dishes'...

**don't ask. It's become a mantra for memories.
The haircut, it's cute, but I've had it, and it is a nightmare to keep up when you have thick hair!! But she has a stylist on speed dial, so there you go.
JBanana: I was thinking about that today! makes no sense. They should raise the age to 21 for all or lower it to 18. It's ignorant really...
11i saw her on TMZ last night going through security with all her jewelry - the girl really does load up on the glitter and all that doesn't she?
i think that it's great that she's able to have more of a say in what she does and how's she's appearing to her fans. it's hard when you start in the business so young, but she's really making headway it seems.
12i have to admit i like her- she does seem pretty down to earth for a celeb. i know she's over the top with her fashion and such but her interviews make her seem fairly normal
13I can't help but like Rihanna.
14Rihanna has it going on especially now that she has Chris Brown! They make such a good couple that I hope to see them move on to bigger and better thing's in the future! I don't care what no one has to say about Rihanna b/c she's always going to come out with something new!!
15"dressed like wh*res" haha oh god I love her!
16shes fab!!
17God, she tries way too hard to look edgy.
18She can do no wrong in my book.
19I love her haircut.
20Takes one to know one...I'm just saying.
21".... and laugh at people fighting or dressed like wh*res."
22I'm sorry but how does that make her down to earth? She's a celebrity does she have nothing better to do? I think her whole transformation is a bit to try hard.
Love her!
23I like Rihanna. I do the same thing at clubs - laugh at the drunk, obnoxious wh*res and the guys who get into pointless fights.
24and i love her short hair !
25She seems to be a nice girl, but I really hate her style!
