Imus will have the last laugh. The radiothon is getting more donations than ever and his wife Deirdre's new book is #20 on Amazon.com. Imus fans are speaking with their pocketbooks and wallets!!!!

at Joe Francis
2I'm upset over Imus getting fired. If anyone's listened to his talk radio show, they'd know he wasn't a racist. I love how Al Sharpton cam on and was flapping his mouth about how black women need to be respected. Well where is he when rappers, or "TV Show" celebrities make comments about b*tches and ho's, racial and homosexual remarks? They don't get fired.
3Needless to say the women's basketball team and Imus got together and handled the situation way better than the media who waited to start a fight.
I think the Imus thing is a double standard..big time. Paris Hilton didn't loose her show when she used the N word and made fun of "poor people" and Isiah Washington used the F word in regards to a gay man, and he didn't loose his place. There has to be a standard across the board, why does one bigot comment count and the other doesn't?
Joe Francis is such a douche!
4MSNBC and CBS are COWARDS. They wouldn't even wait until the man had met with the basketball team. Where do I go to get Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson fired for offending ME!!!

5"I will be your Dixie Chicken if you'll be my Tenessee Lamb and we can walk together down in Dixie Land..."
I was listening to a black comedian on a radio show and he basically said, "Let's be honest. Sharpton and Jackson and their ilk DO want a double standard."

Skinny fat and kendalheart, I couldn't agree with you more!
7I JUST read this from another website:
Michelle Malkin is right - Imus vs. the billboard hot rap tracks chart
April 11th, 2007 by japadamus
From Digg.
I don’t mean to beat this to death, but I think this is a pretty important story. In any case, check out this article by Michelle Malkin.
She notes the irony of the public outrage focused on Imus, while the top songs in the ‘hot rap tracks chart’ all have similar language.
She calls out Sharpton and Jesse, saying: ”But let’s take a breath now and look around. Is the Sharpton & Jackson Circus truly committed to cleaning up cultural pollution that demeans women and perpetuates racial epithets?”
No, because Sharpton and Jesse make their living by vilifying whites, not blacks. talk about biting the hand…
8Sharpton and Jackson make their living vilifying EVERYONE who doesn't agree with them, which isn't just white people. Plenty of black people hate them.

The way I see the Don Imus thing, is that we are all entitled to freedom of speech, and if he wants to act like an idiot and make idiotic insensitive remarks then thats on him. HOWEVER I do agree with CBS's decision to fire him. It would be one thing if he was just a comedian or just a "shock jock" but he has a show in which he interviews political heavyweights and he presents himself as a serious journalist. The way I see it, you cannot have it both ways and this is not the first time he has made remarks like this, I remember when a black female journalist from PBS was corresponding for the white house and he asked since when did they let the cleaning woman do press for the white house. Perhaps it this incident was the straw that broke the camels back, and perhaps he is being used as an example but either way this has shown that you cannot get away with bigoted remarks anymore. And as far as comparing what he said to what rappers say in their songs, it is alot different when a 20 something black male is speaking as a representative of his race and referring to ho's or b*tches or saying the "n" word then a 60 something white man. It doesnt hold the same weight, and it may be somewhat of a double standard but I dont think its on the same level, not that I think anyone should be using racist remarks no matter what their political outlet. But it does hold a different weight.
10I disagree Neecalle but respect your opinion. I have been listening to Imus for 10 years and he pretty much picks on everyone. The man is NOT a racist - he said a nasty thing and he apologized. The man did not commit a crime, did not call for anyone to commit a crime. The punishment was far too harsh and I will NOT accept a double standard. Next time Chris Rock refers to white people as redneck crackers, I'm making a phonecall.

People in this country love racists and people who make racist comments. We are not going to get rid of racists or stupid people, nor should we take away the First Amendment. Consider the success of these talentless a-holes (in no particular order), as well as people who do the same thing but in a more acceptable way.:
1. Carlos Mencia (loud, Mexican racist who steals jokes from Bill Cosby, adored by Comedy Central watchers who miss Dave Chappelle, and can't find anything better to watch on TV, considers racial stereotypes comedy). Solution: George Lopez or Dave Chappelle.
2. Paris Hilton (skinny, rich racist, adored by clueless teen everywhere, calls people n-words and f-words, and demeans poor people). Solution: Ivanka Trump or the Hearst sisters.
3. Bill O'Reilley (adored by racists and conservatives who watch Fox News, demeans all who disagree with him in the name of decency, but then gets caught up in a sex scandal). Solution: Glenn Beck or Sean Hannity.
4. Rush Limbaugh (fat, pasty racist, adored by conservatives, racists and misogynists, all while popping pills). Solution: Glenn Beck or Sean Hannity.
5. Trent Lott (typical southern racist from poor white family in MS, adored by republicans and southern voters everywhere, wanted Strom Thurmond for President, still a powerful force in DC). Solution: Bill Frist or John McCain.
6. Former Secretary of Education Bennett (adored by Republicans and conservatives, says to reduce crime have black women get abortions). Solution: Rod Paige or Margaret Spellings
7. Jesse Jackson (hypocrite, marching against Imus, but once made a racial slur against Jews in New York). Solution: Tavis Smiley or Jessee Jackson, Jr.
And, I don't think it's Imus pulling in the donation dollars --it's the kids the money benefits. He is simply a conduit for raising funds to help kids.
12Talk radio especially when discussing politics is mostly shock factor topics...
13So you're saying because I'm Latina I have the right to call other Latinos derogatory names? What if I'm half black and half white? Do I have half the weight?
I'm just trying to start an interesting discussion, I'm playing nice
Design, yes in raps they may say things like hoes, however that is not the part people are upset about.
14diva_22, you are wrong. the people manning the phones at WFAN have said the vast majority of people were donating in Imus' name. Opie & Anthony are "shock jocks" here in NYC and they urged all their fans to donate and mention Imus' name. Imus has been doing this for 18 years and he raised the money to build the Imus ranch himself. there are racists everyone, not just America.

15"I will be your Dixie Chicken if you'll be my Tenessee Lamb and we can walk together down in Dixie Land..."
What Imus said was blown WAY out of porportion. I heard a play back and it was not THAT bad. I heard on the news today that the girls were "recovering." Recovering from what?!?! People have been called MUCH worse and they're going just fine. This world is jacked and people are way too overly sensitive.
16the bottom line is money, if advertisers dont want you associated with their product, your screwed. imus should of known that. if paris would of said what she said on her show, then she would of been fired too. cbs had every right to fire him because he was employed by them thereby representing them. as far as the dynamic duo the reverends, they feed off this crap and need to focus on the why the hip hop community insists upon using the very words that they denounce.
17why is it harder to believe keith richards didnt snort his father?
Well if it's the "nappy" part everyone so upset about, why are there two childrens' book with the word in the title? "Happy To Be Nappy" and "Nappy Hair"?
****************************************************
18"I will be your Dixie Chicken if you'll be my Tenessee Lamb and we can walk together down in Dixie Land..."
Then what is it they're really upset about? The "nappy-headed" part of what he said?
19NO ONE SHOULD USE THE "N" WORD.

20"I will be your Dixie Chicken if you'll be my Tenessee Lamb and we can walk together down in Dixie Land..."
1 how did he know she had a diary, they were only going out for how long? and two he proberly only wants them back so he can sell some book of her diary entries wat a bastard
21Oh, and skinny fat -- I agree with you. I am black, and I don't like Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. I hate when white people assume they represent all black people in this country or when they do something "racist" how they feel they need to explain themselves to these two. Thanks for your comment.
The fact is there is a double standard -- for everyone. Blacks can say things about other blacks and not suffer the consequences, but whites and other races also get liberties blacks and others do not get. So, there is no reason to expect equal treatment of all people in this country because it does not happen. Also, I hate when people site hip-hop and the words rappers use -- white kids buy the most hip hop and rap! Plus, other music also has lyrics that are questionable, too: drug use, murder, etc.
Where on earth are Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson on issues that matter and really affect black people: how blacks are much more likely to get heavier prison sentences that whites for the same crime; the disparity among blacks/hispanics and whites in public schools in terms of achievement; the lack of women of all races in higher education; predatory loan practices against minorities and low-income people? I don't see Big Perm or Mush Mouth marching at any of these events!
22Can we stop posting creepy pictures of Don Imus? I realize this means that NO pictures of Don Imus will get posted, but I think I would really enjoy that. Seriously. I'm eating lunch right now. Cut me some slack.

I do realize there are racists outside of this country, but since Imus is an American radio host, it seemed appropriate to mention him from a paradigm that recognizes the social structure in this country....
I think the offensive word was probably ho. After all, I hear a lot of white girls talk about their hair being nappy. I think this whole thing got too big too quickly. Imus has been saying this type of stuff for years. People supported him then and they will continue to do so. I hope this dies down soon. I am sick of hearing newscasters blurt out, "nappy-headed hos" with gusto!
25Let's not play the "your race feeds my race to say these things" game. Diva, I too have many friends of color who hate those guys, along with a few others...
26I guess the question we all can't answer is where do we draw the line, and who will?
Seriously, diva_22. It's kind of hilarious to see all these blowhard news guys saying "nappy-headed ho" over and over again. They seem to have no qualms about repeating it.

27"I will be your Dixie Chicken if you'll be my Tenessee Lamb and we can walk together down in Dixie Land..."
As an African American woman, I think it was the least they could do to fire him.
People comparing him to rappers or other African Americans who use "b*tch" or "ho" to describe women are wrong.
I don't condone the Ludacrises or the Jay-Zes that do it, but the fact is there is a different intent and meaning if African Americans say it about other African Americans vs a white man that says it about African Americans.
And on top of that, these girls were at the height of their sport and couldn't go home and get their ticker tape parade like they were supposed to.
People saying Don Imus is just a shock jock and that's what he does, I think, are just making excuses.
28DesingRchic, not sure what "your race feeds my race to say these things" that's not my point.
I'm black. I don't like them or a few others. We are not all equal in this country, and no matter how many "friends of color" you may have and how many white friends I may have the fact remains that we should not go around whining about why some people get to use certain words, while others do not. We should be working together to make life better for everyone regardless of color, culture or socioeconomic status.
29Big Perm and Mush mouth is Classic!!!!
30btw, I was Don IMus hat in that pic,
31Mica Mica, why is it so different? NOw, that right there just pisses me off!
32micamica -- exactly!
skinnyfat -- exactly!
33whos david gest?
34I point is when he was said nappy headed he was referring to the black females on the basketball team. Sure some white people might have "nappy" hair but that term can be used in an endeering way for example the books mentioned "happy to be nappy" are obviously being used as empowerment tools for children to feel good about themselves. What Imus said was out of line and it was not funny. It may have been blown out of proportion and while its true that there are racists all over the world but I think that by making an example out of Imus even though some people seem to think that what he said was "not that bad" is great. The bar has to be set somewhere and if your a racsit and you have a radio/talk show keep your personal feelings at home, and come to work not only because theres no room for this type of behaviour in a public fourum but also because advertisers dont want to be associated with bigotry..whether it be used for "entertainment" or not. So I stand by my opinon, yet I do respect all of yours.
35diva, what I heard you say (my translation from your last comment 2nd paragraph) was that "because "white" people buy more rap & hiphop albums with these derogatory songs, they make more.
36Hmmm... I think that his comment was very wrong, but also think it was a little extreme to fire him. I still don't find the comment to be racist at all. I know that I'm just a little white girl, but I do have nappy/curly hair and hoe is really not that bad of a word. I prefer not to use it, but don't think it's that horrible. I don't know, maybe I just live in a different world than most people.
"Aint nobody out there swift like this."
37neecalle, you are so eloquent! I love your last sentence in your comments. So all I can say is: ditto!
38I am confused is it ho or hoe?
39I agree with you t_hive...
40HO
41hoe= hand tool right?
42Hahaha ohilovemybabies! I always thought it was hoe!
I don't know... I've just always seen everyone as equals, but I know that I may be ignorant to that, but that's how I choose to live my life!
Thanks JustMe!
"Aint nobody out there swift like this."
43
This is crazy
44Is it ho?? Eee, my whole life I've been wrong! So, like hohoho?
"Aint nobody out there swift like this."
45
yup
46Hahahah thanks DesignRchic!
"Aint nobody out there swift like this."
47HA HA HA ... I thought it was hoe too... LMAO..T_hive you have me crackin up all day over here..
48"Aint nobody out there swift like this."
49DesignR, that's not what I way saying. What I am saying is that the main people who purchase rap and hip-hop are white teens. I am sure demand drives supply -- that's basic economics, but no, I am not saying it is white teen's fault that type of language is in hip-hop, if that's where you're going with that....
quite the opposite. artists have control over the language they use, regardless of the race of their markets. plus there are tv shows geared toward blacks that also push this type of language even when they bleep it out (read: BET).
