James Franco might have been trying to fit right in with the other Columbia students with his backpack and clipboard, but somehow we have a feeling he still stands out in class. Last week he poked fun at his student/celebrity status on SNL, but it seems like he's pretty devoted to getting that grad school diploma. Meanwhile on the Hollywood side of things — he signed on to star in an Allen Ginsburg biopic and has Nights in Rodanthe in theaters this weekend, though we might pass or wait for the rental on that one.

He is so HOT! I rarely swoon over celebs, but mmmm, mmmm! Yum!
1Allen Ginsburg biopic? Yay!
2He was awful on SNL but he is pretty smokin.
3Ever since I watched him on 'Freaks and Geeks', I've been a fan.

5LOVE him! Could he be any more perfect?
6He's at Columbia. not NYU

9Love me some James Franco!
I am too old to drool over celebs but HOLY CRAP I have suuuuuuuuuuuuch a crush on JAMES FRANCO! He is effing HOT!
10Love him! Mmmmmelt!
well -i guess that it's going to be interesting to see how this school thing works out for him, seeing as so many others have tried and not all have succeeded. i always wonder what allowances schools make for actors with missing classes since i remember that i wasn't allowed to miss more than 3 a semester without risking my grade dropping
11Now, if he wants to slip away for a quickie marriage...I'm game!
12Does anyone know what his major is?
He's a hottie.
13Have you all seen him as Tristan in 'Tristan and Isolde'? That's when I fell in love with him!
14JAMES FRANCOOO !!! SWOOOONNNN
=]
15Not a big fan, but I do admire his working so hard to get his BA in English Lit at UCLA around his acting, and now going for a Masters in writing. A lot of young actors think they are set for life, but he's got the brains to work for something more and he'll probably be successful in whatever he pursues.
Too bad more of the teen and 20 somethings would rather party than study.
16wonderful actor and smart too! not to mention amazingly good looking... i hope he writes and publishes stuff soon!
17he looks really hot here. my friend goes to UCLA and she had a class with him! can't believe it... so jealous. haha. i think he's able to miss as many classes as he wants as long as he passes his exams... that's how it works at big colleges. no one keeps track of how often you come to lectures
18haha popculture
tell that to the professors at West Point. You could not miss ANY days the whole 4 yrs unless you were in the infirmary or there was an emergency or death in the family.
Also, my sister goes to college and I think it depends on the instructor. Some do not want you missing and some just want you there for tests so it looks like they actually did something. But all "big" colleges do not work that way of letting you miss as much as you want.
19James is a hottie
20Mmmmm he is such a hottie
My experience at college is that it depends on the professor as to whether your attendance record matters. Some teachers will only let you miss a certain number of days before they start docking participation points, or thre really strict ones will drop you from the class altogether. Most of the time, though, the professors don't check attendance, especially if you're in a huge lecture hall (unless they hand out some in-class assignment to verify who was in class and who missed it).
21yeah... i think it depends on which college you go to, and more specifically, which professors you have. for discussion classes or maybe smaller classrooms, my TAs or professors take roll, but for large lectures, professors have no idea who comes to class
22My favorite celebrity ever. I love how he's back in school. Makes him even hotter. I just saw Nights in Rodanthe just for him
As for attendance, I'm in college right now and if you have a huge lecture course then professors don't take attendance usually because there's just way too many people. If it's a discussion class, then it's about 25 people or so (depending on how big your school is) and they take attendance. There's certain rules each professor has as well for attendance...
23Nothing is sexier that a man who wears J.Lo sunnies.
24He's looking very Jess Mariano here. lol
25oh gosh if we was in any of my college classes I would fail because I would be spending the whole class time starting at his direction, drooling, and writing I heart James on my notebook haha!
26He goes to columbia not NYU. Rode the subway with him the other day.
27He is actually doing a dual program with NYU and Columbia. He takes classes at Tisch for creative writing and something else. I go to NYU and have seen him at least twice waiting outside of tisch before class starts
28I love beautiful smart men.
Maybe I need to transfer schools?
29LOVED him in Freaks and Geeks. I really miss that show.
30Umm, yeah, did you guys not see his snl monologue? He was totally repping Columbia. He is enrolled both at NYU and Columbia. Totally hurt by the lack of love Popsugar.
"other NYU students". Why not "other Columbia students" too?
31He is so easy on the eyes...
32i read somewhere he's gay.
33Morg - you are so lucky!!
34He's great! LOVE the outfit. Not so good on SNL though.. not so funny :/ But I still think he's awesome.
35this is the manliest I've ever seen him and I must say he looks kinda hot..he totally likes boys but won't admit it; yet
36My friend goes to brooklyn college(yea a little known cuny school in brooklyn) and he said he saw him hanging out on the stairs of the school and was talking to him. Not sure what he was doing there but my friend said it looked like he had just come out of a class.
