Gere should have understood that certain cultures take public displays of affection and touching seriously and are truely offended by it. It would be as offensive as if Adrian Brody had fondled Halle breasts with his penis exposed while kissing her at the Oscars while she squirmed and tried to break free. There would have been public outcry and lawsuits, ect.

To us no big deal with what Gere pulled..but to other cultures it was a voilation and a offense.

Ginger the man is a very distant friend of the dalai lama! What make you think he is so together? I am a Buddhist and have lived with many buddhists, they are just like anyone. You get a bad buddhist as well as a good one. I'm telling you a good buddhist man wouldn't keep kissing another woman in front of the camera. I'm so sick of Kristin. And I can't believe Heidi! I hated spencer already, but obviouslly Heidi didn't care about Lauren very much, otherwise they wouldn't be going through all of this! I don't know, but I think Lauren is much better off without them. She is the one who got their names out. Richard Gere did go overboard and I do wish he would have thought about the difference in culture..esp for someone who I believe has studied about Asian religions (isn't he Buddhist?) and culture to a decent extent. I would've felt odd being hugged and kissed like that on a stage here in the U.S. even.

If you look at the whole video of Richard Gere, at the beginning he pulls away a couple of times and the Shilpa Shetty pulls him on stage, closer to her.

She complimented him on his role in Shall We Dance, so he parodied it on stage, and only kissed her on the cheek, not the lips.

Lots of Bollywood films have kissing. The same people who burn an effigy of Richard Gere probably protest those too, but we just don't hear about it as much. They sure aren't the majority in India's population.

Ginger I don't know if you heard Shilpa comment on this but she was shocked that he did that. She is an actress that is respected in Indian culture and knows that this would upset her fans.
