Angelina may play the role of mother to four young children and partner to Brad Pitt around here most of the time, but this summer we're going to get to see her playing a slightly different part -- Mariane Pearl, widow of slain American journalist Daniel Pearl. Angelina and Brad are set to debut the film, A Mighty Heart, at the extra star-studded Cannes Film Festival this summer (where Brad's Ocean's 13 will also premiere), but before then EW got a little peek into what it was like making this heavy film. Here are highlights:
- On the school children paparazzi incident: "I'll say this,'' Jolie offers. ''We were in a school we were legally allowed to be in. We had permits for exactly what we were doing. And the paparazzi tried to get into the school when we were at the gate, and the parents showed up to get their kids. And the paparazzi rushed through the gates and caused chaos. It was not the film production that caused chaos. We were only guilty of bringing the paparazzi.''
- Her costar on working with uber-famous Jolie: ''It would usually take about five minutes before people would figure out that it was Angelina,'' says Futterman. ''So we ended up shooting a lot of the exterior stuff in five-minute increments.''
And just think, that's when Angie is in costume. With all the buzz this movie is already getting, it'll be interesting to see if Angelina the megastar and controversial tabloid figure can take on such an intense role. Something tells me her and Brad's little ones aren't going to be seeing this one anytime soon.

11I have to say that Angie is getting boring. I used to like her most several years ago. I'm a bit tired of her right now. I don't think she's a bad actress, though. Is not the best but I really like her job in "Girl Interrupted" and I think she deserved that Oscar.

26GeminiDoll, what reasons would you have cast them? Because of their skin tone? Since the movie hasn't been released and we have no idea of the performance, I have to assume that is exacty what you mean. We can't go by race since Halle and Thandie are both mixed via a white mother and black father. Marianne Pearl's father was Chinese and her mother Afro-Cubano & Dutch, and so it must be about skin tone.
Not only did Marianne Pearl give her blessings, but so did Daniel Pearl's family, and so it must be the story and performance that sold them. As far as the type of roles Angelina Jolie has portrayed, "psycho" can be pretty much be limited to GI.
27Whether we like her or not, she is simply BEAUTIFUL and no costume and make-up can ever change this.

38I dislike that she is trying to play the role of a different race, and it is somewhat insulting. It is the same as a black woman being made up as a white woman. There would be all kinds of controversy over that if it were to happen.

40But isn't it more important that her performance does Marianne Pearl justice? Ava Gardner wasn't black, but she still gave a stellar performance on "Showboat". It's not like she's dressing up like and old Black & White Minstrel.
And from what it seems, Marianne Pearl wasn't simply bi-racial, but tri-racial. And she's French - at least Angelina is half-French and fluent in the language. It would be embarrassing to listen to Halle Berry putting on a French accent. If MP is happy enough with AJ's playing her, then who are we to complain?
41It will be interesting to see how this movie does with the general public, especially considering the publicity and rumour that surrounds it.
My opinion is that it will never make as much money as the regular blockbusters, but from what I understand, it doesn't try to be a blockbuster. I don't think it hurts to see these kinds of films made regardless of who plays the major roles. These are stories that need to be told and it doesn't hurt the general public to hear them regardless of their opinion of the actor/actress in the lead roles.
Take a step back from the gossip and hear their stories.
42I predict medicre reviews for this movie and lackluster box office returns. I watched the real story unfold on TV so I don't need to see a dramatization of it.

Not sure about this movie. It seems to me they could have actually gotten someone closer to Marianne Pearl's actual physical looks to play this role, but if she likes AJ dressing darkening her skin and wearing wigs, it's fine by me. The only way I see this movie not being a flop is if some people consider this modern-day black face and cause a ruckus (Read: Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton)... I will pass on this one either way.
