Beyonce Knowles put out two singles yesterday gearing up for her Nov. 18 album release — but even more exciting is that she's finally talking about her not-so-secret wedding to Jay-Z. The couple has always kept extremely private, but in the November issue of Essence, Beyonce opens up just a little. Here are highlights:
- On getting married: "We've been together a long time. We always knew it would happen. What Jay and I have is real. It's not about interviews or getting the right photo op. It's real."
- On not wanting an engagement ring: "People put too much emphasis on that. It's just material, and it's just silly to me."
- On the small ceremony: "[I'm not a] traditional woman. It's been my day so many days already."
- On her legacy: "I want to be acknowledged as a woman in a very talented group with great harmonies and great songs that made history and changed the culture of women, not only in America but all over the world. [A woman] who could sing a cappella and write her own songs and produce her own songs."
While an engagement diamond might have been unnecessary, have you seen the wedding ring she's wearing these days? Underneath that, however, is the meaningful matching IV tattoos, which represent their birthdays and wedding day. While Jay-Z hinted at starting a family, sounds like her new album is the focus for now.

3I have to admit that although I'm not a fan of hers I do like how she and Jay-Z keep their relationship out of the public and not try to brand themselves. They will probably stand the test of time because of it.

5I don't like that she is so dismissive of the tradition of engagement rings. It is backhandedly insulting to everyone who has been excited about buying one, picking out one out and wearing one. It is silly to her b/c she has a million huge pieces of bling. But it is a really special symbol to most people. She just seems like such a self-important jerk most of the time.

Receiving my engagement ring was the greatest moment of my life- it's a simple ring but it's being able to carry the memory of the engagement around with me that's awesome, not being able to show something off to people- Beyonce is horrible, it can be viewed as "material" but I'm sure to most ppl an engagement ring a very special token of affection- ugh i hate her.

16I dont think she meant it like that sounds. I think in general people DO put a lot of emphasis on the actual ring. How big it is, where its from, all that kinda stuff. My friend quit wearing her ring for a while because she felt like everyone was just sorta judging her engagement ring more than being happy for her and her engagement. The actual engagement is of course, amazing and exciting, but a ring is just a ring, no matter what you think it symbolizes. The wedding band is a different story.

18I actually agree with her comments. Lets face it, she could have any engagement ring she wanted but that was not a priority. We all have our own set and she is entitled to hers.
Personally , I think she speaks well for herself and she does not seem stuck up.
I STILL hate her music however.
19Hm I didn't take her comments as trying to degrade anyone else's priorities or experiences. I had a super small wedding with like 10 people and didn't have an engagement ring, and that doesn't mean I have a problem with anyone else having a big wedding or a big ring. It just wasn't what we wanted for ourselves.

22I just fi3end it funny that some celebrities talk about their privet life when they are promoting a new CD or Movie, they even smile to the pap. But the problem is that after that they complain that the press doesn't respect their life, which is funny because they allowed it to happen when they talked about it in the first place.

27I think people are taking what she said too seriously. I don't think she meant that the ring is too material and expensive (while simultaneously sporting a 10,000 dollar bag), I think she literally just meant that a ring means nothing. You can have a ring, but that doesn't prove anything. Real love is real love regardless of a ring or a marriage license.
