Courtney Love spent time with Kimberly Stewart at Coachella this weekend showing off her new body. Looks like she's going to be pretty busy once she gets back to LA as well. She told Spinner.com that she's planning to sell off Kurt Cobain's belongings, twelve years after his suicide in 1994. Here's more:
"I'm going to have a Christie's auction....[My house] is like a mausoleum."
"My daughter doesn't need to inherit a giant Hefty bag full of flannel f---ing shirts," Love says. "A sweater, a guitar and the lyrics to '[Smells Like] Teen Spirit' – that's what my daughter gets. And the rest of it we'll just f---ing sell."
According to Love, her friends are supportive of the idea. "Everyone's been positive and behind me on it," she says. "We'll make a lot of money and give a bunch of it to charity."
Even though it's been twelve years, it's still pretty surprising that she would sell most of his stuff. Hopefully it's a sign that she's moving on with her life, in a healthy way of course. She isn't letting him go completely, however, she says she still wears his pajamas to bed every night!

I read this earlier on CNN, and I was put off about how she said, "We'll make a lot of money" until I got to the part about how it's hard to move on in a new relationship when she still wears his pajamas. And for the first time in my life, I actually really pitied Courtney Love.
1I read an interview with Francis Bean a while ago and she said something similar about keeping things that really mean something to her, etc. I think it's a good idea, Courtney seems to be in a better place now so it's good for her to move on.
2I have a soft spot for her.
3What a horrible tragedy she had to share with millions of zitty teenagers. It's hard enough mourning alone.
well i kind of don't believe she wears his PJs to bed every night. I think she said that so that fans don't think badly of her. She's said in the past that Kurt wasn't the love of her life. She said that it was Edward Norton, and that Norton was more of a father figure to Frances.
4Hmmm, I still have my suspicions about the whole "suicide". If she actually gives the money to charity like she says, then I *may* have a little more respect for her.
5She looks nasty as ever in these pics, though.
6I think if selling his things is going to help her move on, and possibly raise money for charity as well, then go for it. I can imagine it being hard having all the belongings of someone you loved who died years ago and having that constant reminder. Then again, everyone deals with morning over the death of a loved one in different ways.

18I'm glad she is keeping some stuff for her and her daughter. I think getting rid of a bunch of Kurt's stuff is a real important part of her healing process. I've always felt for her. We all saw the downward spiral after Kurt's passing. I think she's really making a strong effort to move on. Good for her!

21Suicide my arse! I still think she had something to do with Kurt's untimely demise because he wanted out of the marriage. Being a widow is far more lucrative than alimony. If it weren't for his earnings and royalties, she wouldn't be living so well.
What tiny fraction of her profits would be going to charity? Didn't she have money problems in the last couple of years?

I think it's good of her to move on and get rid of some of his belongings. Being from Seattle myself, there is a part of him in this city especially that will never die. The memories and the legacy will always be there. There has passed a fair amount of time and inevitably some healing needs to occur to move on, and you can't stare at the stuff forever! Most people get rid of family members things sooner than this, just keeping the really personal items. Francis will get a guitar, lyrics to "Smells like Teen Spirit", and a sweater. Like she said herself, she doesn't need a bag full of flannels. Of course she wants everyone to know about it, so she can rake in a ton of moo-lah for it. Looks like Billionaires have offered to buy everything, so I don't thinks she's entirely in it for the money.
32There are a LOT of people who think she had something to do with Kurt's death. Not that she personally pulled the trigger, but she may have known who did and perhaps it was at her beckoning. The private detective she hired to follow around Kurt in his final days even thinks she was involved. He had asked his attorney to rewrite his will, excluding her, because he planned to divorce her. There has been a lot written about it.
33And she did have money problems as recently as last year, which is when and why she sold part of the Nirvana catalog. I found an article on it:

40i dunno..kurt had a horrible and painful disease with his intestines...and he liked the drugs...anything is possible. regardless...losing a spouse has to be painful...and in some ways i do feel bad for her...more for her kid though.
41I feel bad for her and think people are giving her a hard time for doing a good thing. It's so much healthier to sell the stuff and move on than to sleep in his pjs every night- that's soooo freakin' sad. And if she did just give all the stuff away instead of selling it- I am sure that someone would give her a hard time for just giving it away instead of auctioning it off for charity. She's in a tough spot and I think we all need to let her do her thing.

44its her stuff to give away. people want his stuff, and it will sell on ebay. what the hell is she going to do with a bunhc of old shirts? stare at them? sniff them? it's been a long time, long enough for her to be able to get rid of his old clothing. and everyone is all down on her for keeping some of the money but everyone forgets about Francis bean, who is Kurts daughter too, and needs monet to live too. the money might not all go to courtney loves rehab bills (rolls eyes) some of it might go to francis and her needs. its a good idea to donate some to charity, but it is perfectly ok for her to keep some of the money herself for her and her daughter.

i totally agree with you flutterpie its crazy to think she had anything to do with kurt's death.Kurt made attempts at suicide before he succeeded.I think courtney is great to put up with all the crap that is written about her and carry on.Everybody deserves the right to move on with their lives and not live it through a person who isnt alive anymore.
